Playing Airbender (Legend of Korra SI)

Chapter 138 138

Chapter 138 138

Akashi stood before a mountain, with the city walls behind him.

"You're planning to build a train trail there," Akashi said. "But the mountain is bothering you, right?"

Akashi was with his future wife and future in-laws.

After telling them that he had something to show them, he got them to follow him, but he didn't say what.

Though he knew that the family wasn't in the right mindset because a lot had happened that day—the revealing of the consultant's betrayal, Zaheer's death, which they didn't seem to care about... and more.

Suyin raised her eyebrows at Akashi. "Not really. We have earthbenders and metalbenders. Removing this mountain will take some time, a year at most, but it's not that much of a trouble."

Akashi smiled. "See. Almost a year is a lot. It would be helpful if it's removed instantly."

Lin, who was by his side, frowned. "Don't tell me you're getting Korra involved in this."

"Oh, who? The Avatar?" Suyin asked.

Lin nodded. "Yes. That's her name."

Lin withheld the information that Korra was also marrying Akashi. She didn't want to freak her sister out. And she hoped that Akashi could be considerate.

Akashi stretched his arms up.

"Not really. She's not needed." Akashi turned to a pretty short brunette, who was his niece-in-law. She also happened to be an airbender and around his age.

"I want to show my junior here what airbending could achieve, so that she could work hard on it," Akashi said. "And who knows. It may serve as a good example for anyone who has plans of conquering the Kingdom, building giant robots, or has some crazy ambitions."

Upon mentioning the giant robots and conquering, Kuvira and Bataar exchanged a glance. Akashi noticed that with his airbending. But what he noticed with his wavesbending was the pulse of the couple. Bataar Jr felt something. Kuvira, on the other hand, was so calm that her pulse didn't change. She was a natural conqueror—a psychopath.

Bataar looked somewhere else. Kuvira gave Akashi a Doakes stare, seeming suspicious that he found something on her. Well, if she knew who he was, she would be certain that he found something on her, or at least, knew a part of her future plans.

Lin held Akashi by the shoulder and leaned in to his ear.

"Are you back to taking drugs?" she asked.

Akashi smiled as he pushed Lin to the side.

"I thought so when I achieved an Avatar's level power." He said.

Akashi joined his hands together, blue light emitting from them. He took a step forward and pushed the light, creating a beam that hit the mountain. It's shape shifted, turned, and then, vaporized, turning into small dust that flew on the beam's way, scattering everywhere in the sky.

In the sky, the beam continued moving, creating lightning where it passed, before dark clouds gathered.

Akashi paused, put his hands on his hips, and looked at the sky.

'It's way stronger than the last time I used it. I guess that's what an increased level means.' He thought.

Opal, the airbending niece, pointed at herself, while still looking forward in shock.

"I can do this with airbending?" she asked, her tone far distinct from her facial expression. It's fair to say that she didn't know what she was saying.

Akashi laughed, "Maybe… maybe not. But you could do something similar."

As for the others, they were too shocked to say anything, especially Lin.

She had known that Akashi was strong and could do tricks that she didn't know about. She had thought of him as a newbie once, and he had proved her wrong. And he kept improving. At best, she had thought that he would be a master airbender. Or less—since Tenzin didn't put an arrow on his head. But to vaporize a mountain like that… it's something that only the Avatar could do, which was logical since the Avatar was a powerhouse that existed for tens of thousands of years and got stronger with each cycle. But Akashi was a mere mortal who had been a bender for a year.

'Why am I wet?' Lin thought to herself.

Suyin forced a smile, a sweat dripping on her forehead.

She was shocked. But she thought that Akashi had a hidden message and didn't intend to help them. Maybe, he was telling her that she better deal with Aiwei quickly, or else he would consider her with Zaheer as well. Or it's a message to know that he was upset since they hadn't taken his accusations seriously at first toward Aiwei. Anyways, it was obvious that they would treat him with more respect in the future and never dare to upset him and make him snap.

The only two who understood Akashi's true intent were Kuvira and her husband.

Akashi had made it clear that he knew someone was making a giant robot and planning to conquer. Of course, Bataar wasn't the ambitious one. But he loved Kuvira so much that he went along with making her super weapons. She had made it seem she wanted them, so she could keep the peace of the city. But Bataar knew that she would want to eventually unite the Earth Kingdom, which required conquering it.

'So, he knows. He asked me about what my relation with Kuvira, and now, he's showing us what he can do. We thought that we could deal with the Avatar in the worst case, and get her on our side in the best case. But even if we somehow made it with Korra, Akashi alone is enough to make the whole operation fail. Not to mention, if we somehow got Akashi—which I doubt would work since he's a detective and can read the clues—Korra would then be on us. Shit… being alive with a miserable finance is better than allowing my fiancée to die.'

Kuvira thought the same. Being alive was better than dying aimlessly. Even if she started her conquering conquest, and she managed to get the Avatar to stand on her side, Akashi wouldn't allow her to get into Ba Sing Se. After all, he was the founder of the revolution.

Kuvira, as the responsible for the security of this city, had access to more inlets than the rest. And she knew all about Akashi.

She had thought the rumors about him defeating a large army alone was an exaggeration.

But, seeing what he was able to do, she knew that he had gone easy on the army of the queen.

'He went for blood. But he knew that killing too much isn't going to be good. So, he had held back when he assured advantage. Damn it. He's firm with a good heart. I won't be able to manipulate him.'

'Fuck it. The bloodbenders were already enough trouble to deal with… I get it. I should get him to fuck me, manipulate him like I'm doing to my fiancée. Or simply, give up.'

"I guess I owe you a thanks for helping us remove it," said Suyin.

"Anything for my in-laws." Akashi put his hand on Suyin's back. "We're a family after all."

"Yes… Glad to have you around," Suyin smiled. Well, she decided to take these as good news. As Akashi was her in-laws, no one would dare to think of conquering their city—not that they were weak. But it was good to have him around.

As for Lin, she looked at Akashi with stars in her eyes.

"Wow. You managed to destroy that mountain faster than I destroyed the island temple." She commented.

"Yeah, Lin had some serious stamina when she was young," added Suyin.

Akashi just smiled, before giving Kuvira and Bataar a quick glance. They shivered in their place.

'They got the message. Even the psychopath could feel fear.' He thought, before looking back at Lin and smiling.

Later that night, both Kuvira and Bataar visited Akashi in his room with Lin. Lin was still asleep, and Akashi had already become a man who couldn't sleep for many days without medication—a lot of them.

"We're really sorry. We've only thought about building giant weapons to protect the city," said Kuvira. "We never had any ambition to begin with."

"Yes, Mr. Akashi. We've only developed this project in secret, and were planning to announce it after we give it to mother. Rest assured," added Bataar.

Akashi smiled. "Somehow, you got your hands on some resources from the spirit world. That's how mass distraction weapons are made."

Since they were making that weapon, Akashi remembered that it used spiritual materials.

Kuvira shivered in her place.

Bataar didn't know that Kuvira made Zaheer get that for her.

Kuvira quickly bowed and said, "Thank you for your mercy."

As for Akashi, he hadn't found any proof about her using Zaheer and just assumed that she had someone going to the South Pole to retrieve those materials for her.

"I'm that merciful. I just didn't want to ruin the mood for my wedding. Now, good night." Akashi said as he slowly closed the door behind him. His words meant that he hadn't intended to spare them in the first place. Just that he didn't want to ruin his mood. It also meant that he wouldn't show such mercy in the future.

After closing the door, Akashi could sense that Kuvira collapsed on her fiancée, panting in fear.

'It's really nice to be overpowered. You can say some random shit, and people will assume that it has a hidden wisdom behind it. I didn't kill them because they had no way or credibility to start their conquest. But it seemed that they had considered it. And that's why I needed to show them their place.' Akashi thought. 'Korra may be restricted by the Avatar's code. But I'm not.'
