Chapter 139 139 (The end)
Chapter 139 139 (The end)
After that incident with Kuvira and the vaporized mountain, things proceeded peacefully. As time passed, news of Akashi's feats spread worldwide.
The rumors, facts, and many witnesses had made Akashi known to both young and old.
The founder of the rebellion.
The killer of the Red Lotus.
The Queen Killer.
The man who made an army crawl in fear and buried earthbenders in air.
And lastly, the man who vaporized a mountain with one hit.
"If you ask your mother who you are, she may forget you. But if you ask her who Akashi is, she'll tell you. The most dangerous man in the world," said the Republic City's president, throwing a newspaper in Korra's direction.
You know, after Akashi's feats, the world got alerted, especially the higher-ups.
The fact that he led a rebellion in a country he didn't belong to, and fought in a war where he hadn't held back from killing thousands and putting tens of thousands on death's doorstep, made them very cautious about him.
Still, he had the full backing of Ba Sing Se. But the other nations didn't share the same view.
And they couldn't confront that man directly.
After many months, Akashi's business plan had exploded worldwide. Many restaurants had been opened, and his food brand was loved by most people. Not to mention, he had managed to strike a deal with the former rebels and turn them into potato farmers, making Akashi control the industry of one of the main foods of people in this world. And with him being close to the Sato family, he had managed to make them build machines to help his business. Not only was he super strong, but he was super rich. And his income was higher than what the city could get from taxes.
Korra smiled as she looked at the newspaper.
Currently, she was standing in front of the Council of Republic City.
"Yeah… And, so?" Korra frowned as she looked at the newspaper. "Why are they trying to make him look like the bad guy?"
"Because he's," the Earth Consoler said. "He has even killed a queen!"
"She's the one who tried to kidnap him first," replied Korra, frowning. "And he had helped poor people who started a rebellion. Last time I checked, it's not the Avatar's job to meddle in other nations' affairs, nor is it my job to stop someone from helping some people's nations. As long as he's not some conqueror waging a war, I have no problem with him."
"Is it not your Avatar's job, or is it because he's your boyfriend?" said the Water Consoler.
Korra put her hands on her hips, her belly bigger than usual despite having ripped arms.
"Excuse me!" Korra shouted. "He's not my boyfriend. He's my husband, and my soon-to-be-born child's father!"
"So, you're biased, which is against the Avatar's code," said the Water Consoler.
"I don't think we should judge her based on that," Tenzin, as the Air Consoler, said. "It's just that we're, and I'm speaking for the whole nations here, are worried because he's an uncontrollable variable, and every nation here is afraid that they may upset him. They're afraid because he's not the type to wage a war directly, but he knows how to do his stuff. Not to mention, he has enough financial power that he doesn't need his powerful techniques to pose a danger."
"And Akashi is no different than any other wealthy, powerful figures who have armies under them. It's better to drop the matter."
"You're just saying that because he's your disciple," said the Fire Consoler.
"So, what do you suggest?" Tenzin argued.
"I don't know, do something about it!" shouted the Fire Consoler.
Korra looked as the council argued, even the president joined in.
She sighed and thought about what she had learned about politics. Most of these people may act as if they are speaking for the public's interest. But every word they say has a hidden agenda.
'Akashi had told me in advance that this would happen. The Earth Consoler is affected by the other Earth Nation countries that used to be allies with the queen and are afraid that he and Noatak would start some rebellions in them. The Water Consoler is affected by the Northern Tribe. After their loss in the South that time, they seem to still have a grudge. As for the Fire Consoler, his nation's earnings are dropping. As potatoes are easier to farm than rice, can be planted in harsh lands, and are more in demand now, those nations that depended on farming rice have had their economies take a hit.
The most frustrating thing to them was that it was purely an economic war. And they didn't have enough military force to solve it.
'They make him sound like the bad guy so that I deal with him… Stupids…' Korra shook her head and then looked at the roof, remembering something. 'Akashi said that they got nothing on me, and that they can only scream loud.'
Korra suddenly walked to the door, leaving.
"Avatar! Wait, the meeting isn't over!" the president shouted. "We're talking about the public interest."
"Come over here…"
Korra kept walking and left them alone.
"Hate to tell you guys, but Korra doesn't trust anyone trying to reinforce her identity as the Avatar to achieve personal gains ever since the North Pole invasion to the South Pole," Tenzin suddenly laughed in the council members' faces. "Let's face it. Now that the Avatar has ignored you, you'll have to drop Akashi's subject, because you have no power. And I advise you to drop it."
"Tsk… Can you at least try to make him invest?" said the president. "We need someone like him."
"I don't know. If you are profitable, then he may consider it," said Tenzin, proud of his future son-in-law… even though that man had been collecting fathers-in-law lately.
"What profitable?" shouted the Earth Consoler. "He's been donating billions to Air Nomad cultures, despite not getting anything back."
Tenzin shrugged. "I just asked him to donate nicely. My kids said please. And he wrote a check. The money didn't faze him, though."
The other council members looked at Tenzin as if he was the shameless one.
For what it was worth, they had to accept that both Akashi's strength and wealth were beyond them. And they couldn't pressure him. That man even had the police chief as his wife, the Avatar as the mother of his child, and some other rich guy as his father-in-law.

The most dangerous man was currently moving on with life. In an empty cinema that he rented for himself, Akashi was eating snacks while watching the movies he had invested in developing. He didn't invest for money in return, but to get something to entertain himself. He had even forced Hiroshi to start thinking of developing some entertainment machines.
With the current level he had reached, the only way to progress for him was to get into a fight with Korra and win through domestic violence—not that he was the type to do it.
'Good movie…' Akashi commented. "But why do they make the strong villain always want to rule the world—and the only reason that he wants to dominate is because he's strong. I'm very strong, and I don't want to rule anything. I want to live my life day to day… and find something to distract me from the fact that I'll die eventually. Well, I'm expected to have a few kids…
'Korra is pregnant. Asami is well… that girl is very fertile. And lastly, even Lin is pregnant.'
As it seemed, Lin wasn't at an age where she couldn't bear kids and still had five years to go. But there was some Chi blockage and insulin resistance thing.
Lin had been one of the reasons why Akashi was hiding. She had always been angry on good days. Now that she was pregnant, Akashi had to rent a whole cinema for himself.
"Akashi… it's time to get home."
The door to the cinema was opened, revealing Asami, walking toward him. Behind her were Korra and Lin.
"Girls, you are here?" Akashi turned his head. "Asami, I thought you had a meeting. Same for Korra. Did they ask you to take me down?… Lin… I know, I know… I'm supposed to help with a case. But I lost track of time."
"I had to cancel. You sounded lonely… and bored. So, I had to cancel that meeting," Asami said, looking at Akashi concerned.
Korra added, "You've been right all the time. I just walked by their faces, and they had nothing to say anymore. Can you believe it, they said we're getting unprofessional because we defended you. As if they didn't have any ulterior motives."
"Well, it's just a temporary thing. Once I'm no longer the man of the hour, life will just move as usual," commented Akashi, grabbing some popcorn and eating it.
Lin crossed her arms. "I'm here because you look depressed…"
Well, to Akashi, it was just a phase.
For so long, his sole purpose was to reach a very high level. And now that he achieved that level, he had to rediscover himself. Not to mention, even though he got power, he lost something. The ability to get tired and fall asleep. The ability to get drunk.
But at least, he still could get happy and feel. However, when the girls are busy or have some duties, he'd feel lonely.
But it's not the first time such a thing happened in his both lives.
At least, for now, he felt happy that some people were concerned about him. And he would have kids to raise, who would then pass his bloodline to the whole world.
Akashi waved his hand. "It's a normal thing before becoming a daddy. Everyone needs some isolation once in a while."
"So, you know it's normal thing to stay aside your wives!" Lin argued.
"Is it normal to have wives?" he asked.
"You've got some tongue on you. Why don't you make it useful." Lin replied.
"Guess you got a point," Akashi replied as he stood up, smiling.
For now, life wasn't about fighting or leveling up. It was about appreciating little things, like these moments.
And so, Akashi went on, spending what he called just a happy peaceful day of his life.
