Chapter 528 - 520: Awkward Living Together (Eight)
"Sure!" Fenfen nodded happily.
Ji Anning became anxious and hurried over, "Fenfen, stop bothering Mr. Charles, come down and play by yourself."
Using the excuse of worrying that Fenfen might be annoying, she reached out, took Fenfen from Charles’s arms, set her on the ground, then straightened up and smiled at Charles, asking, "Mr. Charles, hadn’t you just left?"
Charles looked down at little Fenfen and sighed deeply, "Ah, I really missed Fenfen. That big house, without her joyful laughter, felt like something was missing."
What did he mean? Was he hinting something to her?
Ji Anning pulled Fenfen closer behind her, then looked at Charles nervously, "I... I said I would bring Fenfen back."
"You don’t need to be nervous." Charles gave Ji Anning a reassuring smile and spoke pleasantly, "I gave you two months, I just came to see Fenfen. If you hadn’t come, I was planning to look for you."
Ji Anning sighed with relief, "Thank you, Mr. Charles."
But she still felt uneasy, knowing Charles, his main purpose in returning was definitely not just because he missed Fenfen.
Such a serious and meticulous person, dealing with myriad affairs daily, couldn’t possibly change his schedule just for a child.
Feeling uneasy, Ji Anning followed Fenfen closely all day.
She had originally planned to grab a few sets of clothes and then go back to Ji Chicheng, but with Charles’s visit, he surely wouldn’t let her leave without staying for a meal.
All day, Ji Anning spent her time playing with Fenfen, and when she slept, Ji Anning slept too.
Charles went out in the afternoon and came back very late, which delayed dinner.
The large dining table seated just the three of them, with dishes filling the table.
Charles sat opposite Ji Anning and Fenfen, holding his chopsticks, eating very elegantly.
"Eat."
Fenfen disliked the restraint of the baby chair, always standing on a stool to eat.
Again, she eyed the food she wanted, stood up, reached out, and grabbed a handful of squid tentacles. Fearing someone might snatch them, she immediately stuffed them into her mouth.
"You shouldn’t eat that, it could get stuck in your throat."
Ji Anning quickly set down her cutlery and frantically scooped out the tentacles Fenfen had shoved into her mouth.
The squid tentacles, stir-fried in sauce, smeared sauce all over the little girl’s face, causing Charles across the table to burst out in hearty laughter.
His laughter was refreshing.
"Eat!" Fenfen got angry, she frowned sternly at Ji Anning, and to show authority, she threw her spoon, which clattered loudly.
Imitating perfectly.
Charles couldn’t refrain from laughing loudly again.
Ji Anning’s expression was also very grave as she forcefully slapped the table and demanded angrily, "Who taught you to be so temperamental?"
The little girl was startled.
The next second, she burst into tears.
"Fenfen is a brave child, she shouldn’t cry." Charles quickly came around and lifted Fenfen up to console her.
Inside the room, the sounds of a child crying, a woman scolding, and... a man’s voice.
The man stood at the gate of the yard, his tall frame slightly trembling, exuding a chilling aura.
No matter how tightly he clenched his fists, he couldn’t suppress the emotions of jealousy and anger. He raised his hand and slammed it fiercely against the courtyard wall.
...
After dinner, it was almost eight o’clock, Charles had someone drive Ji Anning back to Ji Chicheng’s place.
