Oops, Mommy Slept With A Tyrant

Chapter 278 He Called The Mother Of His Future Bride

Chapter 278 He Called The Mother Of His Future Bride

"What do you mean you can’t reach her? You’re her husband!"

"She insisted on visiting her gynecologist alone today, Kelsie. You know how she gets when she feels something is wrong with her body."

Pacing around in her room with her phone pressed against her ear, Kelsie paused hearing her uncle.

The couple had been trying to have a child for as long as she could remember, yet he was so calm about his wife being in the wind.

It wasn’t like him to be nonchalant about anything relating to his wife, so that only meant... he has no idea about the pregnancy.

That woman probably wanted it to remain a surprise until now.

Frustratedly Running a hand through her hair, she sucked in a deep breath and spoke more gently, "Please, have her call me as soon as she returns."

"Of course, Kelsie."

After getting his affirmation, she hung up and glanced at the box on her desk again, eyes clouding with worry a second time.

Was it Molly?

She shook her head almost immediately at the thought.

Molly was still a fugitive and wouldn’t dare to make such a long trip just to threaten her.

Besides, she had never mentioned her aunt’s name to anyone before. Ever.

But this person knew enough to connect the dots and even send her a threatening package with such anonymity.

For the rest of the day, she was too restless to continue consultations. Hence, she rescheduled everyone for her next free day before leaving the practice.

On the way, she made up her mind to hack into her aunt’s phone once once got home.

Halfway to the apartment building, the phone beside her rang and she answered without checking the caller, assuming it was her aunt calling.

"Do you have any idea how worried I’ve been? You don’t just disappear like that. Next time, tell your husband what’s going on before you go anywhere. These are dangerous times!" She practically yelled into the phone, but her furrowed brows eased as relief washed all over her.

However, what she got in response wasn’t the meek voice of her aunt after being reprimanded, but that of a man who didn’t sound like her uncle.

"I see you got our gift."

Her foot slammed against the brakes before she could stop herself.

Glancing at the screen of her phone, her brows furrowed into a frown again at the unfamiliar number sprawled across it.

Not private. Not blocked. Either this person was using a burner phone, or he simply didn’t care about being caught.

As though listening to her thoughts, the man chuckled, "You’re probably thinking, ’Is he using a burner phone or just being stupid?’ Neither. You see, Ms. Langford, I come in peace."

Her gaze darkened.

Langford. Only people from Lioren knew she was a Langford. So this person was obviously from Lioren.

He couldn’t possibly be a member of the Reed family given how they asked their heir not to return without having her as a wife.

Though she didn’t respond, the man wasn’t deterred and continued speaking.

"I thought long and hard about how to get your attention because, just like your mother, you’re not easily impressed nor affected by most things."

"Since I couldn’t get to your children, I thought, ’What else does she care about?’ That’s when I came across her. Emily Hughes."

"The 7-year-old child your mother took under her wings at the age of eighteen. All these years, no one ever thought about her, but it finally makes sense why she took care of you as her own."

"That Lois Fletcher... she does know how to make a good investment. Even in death, she’s still so formidable."

Clenching her jaw, Kelsie scoffed irritably. "Surely you didn’t call me to reminisce on such nonsense details."

The man’s subtle laughter filled her ear as he hummed.

"My apologies if I bored you. I’m simply trying to say there’s no hostility between us. In fact, I want us to become family."

To this, she sneered, "You send me something so threatening and take my aunt just so you can propose for us to become family? The people of Lioren sure knows how to slip into someone’s life, don’t they?"

Clicking his tongue loudly, he exhaled.

"Oh, don’t be so offended. The blood on the paper barely filled a syringe. That’s far less threatening than, God forbid, what she’d lose if she happens to have a miscarriage."

A threat wrapped around in humor.

Colton Reed was at least serious and came for what he wanted head-on, but this was one was being too disgusting going after a pregnant woman.

For almost two minutes, they simply listened to each other’s breathing, until a weak voice broke through.

"Don’t do it, Kelsie. The people of Lioren are the worst to be around. They’d... arghh!"

The unmistakeable sound of Emily Hughe being slapped echoed through the phone.

"She’s pregnant, you fucking psycho! Don’t hit her!" She yelled angrily, gritting her teeth.

The man barely tutted, stating coldly, "The baby will remain unharmed for twenty-four hours."

"However, once I call after that time and I don’t hear what I want to... I will no longer be able to guarantee the safety of both mother and child."

Then the line went dead.

Tossing the phone to the passenger seat, Kelsie eyelids trembled as she reached to restart the car with shaky hands.

When she returned to the apartment building, she wasn’t very surprised when Molly rushed up to her.

But she was in no mood to deal with her an intended to head in when Molly blocked her path.

"Fine. I give in. Ask me anything, and I’ll tell you all you want to know."

Kelsie’s first thought was to ignore her, but then she took out her phone and briefly played a part of the call she had a moment ago.

Hearing the voice, Molly’s brows perked up in surprise.

"Robert Figueroa? Aren’t you a little too old for him?"

Pocketing her phone, Kelsie stared straight at her. "He wants us to become family."

Molly didn’t react at first before she grimaced and felt her ears in disbelief. "I’m sorry... what?"

Kelsie’s expression hardened. "Why do you look like that? The one from the Reed family said the same thing, and you had no problem trying to make it come true."

Molly sucked in a deep breath and glanced around warily before turning back to Kelsie.

"The Reed family wants you. Robert Figueroa... if he says he wants you to become family with him, is not talking about you."

"If he’s not talking about me, then why call me?" Kelsie was genuinely confused.

Molly immediately went mum, hesitating for a moment on what to do.

She already made up her mind and came here ready to do and say whatever Kelsie asked her to, but even she knew this was a sensitive topic to encroach on.

Unfortunately, she would say about anything at this point not to continue seeing Craig Adler.

"Actually, he simply called the mother of his future... bride."

Kelsie’s pupils dilated as Molly continued flatly. "That’s right. He’s a decorated pedophile in Lioren."
