Chapter 277 Ultrasound Photos Of Your Aunt
Chapter 277 Ultrasound Photos Of Your Aunt
The rattling sound of the keyhole as Zade struggled to open it went unnoticed by the adults in the room who were both engrossed in their own business.
However, Kelsie’s eyes happened to dart toward the door just as it was pushed open.
Instinctively, she shoved the man above her to the side, sending him to the floor whilst she hurriedly pulled the duvet to her chest.
The thud from him hitting the floor coincided with the sound of the door swinging fully open.
Thinking they were being sly, all three children slowly poked their heads in only to freeze at the sight of their mother staring straight into their souls.
"You said... she’d be in tears," Jesse muttered, rendered nearly speechless.
"My bad." Zade laughed nervously through clenched teeth.
Keira, however, had her attention on the shadow beside the bed.
The room was too dim for her mother to have a shadow... but even if it wasn’t, a shadow wouldn’t be moving unless her mom was, right? Right.
On impulse, she stepped fully into the room and began approaching the bed.
Flustered and unable to get out of bed because she had nothing on, Kelsie sat up nervously, following Keira’s movement with her eyes.
"Honey, are you alright? What are you doing?"
But her daughter was too curious to find out why her mother’s shadow was moving on its own and didn’t hear a word she said.
Thus, didn’t stop moving toward Jett.
Realizing she’d be caught if she didn’t do anything, Kelsie covered her mouth and forced out a cough, briefly glancing beside her bed.
Her eyes met Jett’s and she nudged her head, signaling for him to move before speaking in a raised her voice.
"Keira, why are you approaching my bed? Mommy really wants to sleep alone tonight and can’t have you sleeping here."
Getting the hint, Jett grimaced and slipped underneath the bed just in time before Keira reached him.
When she arrived, Keira was stunned to see the shadow suddenly vanish.
Scratching the back of her head in disbelief, she paced around where she saw the shadow in confusion before standing still to glance around.
When she still didn’t see the shadow, her brows slowly knitted in worry before she whipped her eyes toward Kelsie.
"Mommy, why don’t you come sleep with us tonight?"
"Yes, that would be nice. Jesse can sleep in your room instead." Zade hummed in agreement.
Upon hearing his name, Jesse first took a step forward before he paused and stepped back again.
Turning to Zade, he leered at him with annoyance, "Didn’t you hear Mommy say she needs to sleep alone? She can’t do that in our room with two children in it."
Kelsie’s forced smile widened as she held the duvet tighter.
"It’s just one night, babies. I’ll be fine. Now, you have school tomorrow. Hurry up and go to bed."
After some convincing, the children finally agreed and turned to leave, but Kelsie recalled something and called them back, "How did you three get into my room?"
Panicking, Zade’s eyes widened and he quickly moved the key behind his back. "No way. It might’ve been open."
Kelsie was taken aback.
There were three keys to her room and she was certain she had all three of them, or could he have taken one when she wasn’t looking?
Thinking that was the case, she stretched out her palm and spoke gently, "Mommy can’t have her privacy if you have a key to my room."
Zade’s shoulders slumped and he reluctantly walked forward to place the key in her palm before leaving with his siblings.
Once they were gone, the woman exhaled in relief and leaned back against the bedrest as Jett emerged from under the bed.
Without a word, he walked over to lock the door and returned to bed to her.
That night, the two simply went to bed spooning.
By three in the morning, he slipped out of the room, leaving through the main door as he knew everyone was still deep asleep.
But just as he strutted past the living room...
"Daddy?"
Hearing Jesse’s groggy voice behind him, Jett slowly turned to see the boy squinting sleepily at him.
When he didn’t respond, Jesse cautiously stepped forward to touch his arms. "Is it really you, Daddy?"
Meeting his innocent eyes, Jett first ran his fingers through his hair before shaking his head in disagreement.
"No. You must be seeing me in your dreams because you miss me so much. Go back to sleep now."
Jesse might have thought twice about this if his mother was on speaking terms with Jett, but recalling that they weren’t, he accepted the explanation and hugged Jett for a few more seconds before he disengaged and shuffled back to bed.
A few hours later, Kelsie drove the children to school before heading to her practice.
Ever since Molly left, she hadn’t found a replacement, so she split her days between the pharmacy, medical consultations, checkups, and surgeries.
For the day, she had consultations and checkups.
By 10 a.m., she had finished seeing the morning patients and stepped out to get coffee.
When she returned, one of the janitors handed her a box with no address.
"The courier dropped it off and said there was no need for a signature."
"Oh, thank you."
Sipping her coffee, she moved the box to her ear and shook it lightly, naturally growing puzzled at how weightless it was.
Why would anyone mail her an empty box? It couldn’t be she was getting sued either as it wouldn’t come in such a box.
Once she got to her office, she set her coffee down and reached into her drawer for scissors.
Tearing the box open, her brows furrowed in surprise at the sole item inside.
An ultrasound photo of... an embryo?
Confused, she switched the photo to her right hand, lifting her left to massage her temple.
But the next second, she froze at the sudden sensation of something warm on her skin.
Lowering her fingers to eye level, her eyes widened at the red smudge on her fingertips, and she quickly turned the photo over.
Almost immediately, her heart dropped at the words scrawled in red behind it.
"Nothing to see here. Just the ultrasound photo of your aunt’s baby."
