Oops, Mommy Slept With A Tyrant

Chapter 270 Men Up To Mischief

Chapter 270 Men Up To Mischief

Kelsie frowned, squinting at the bulge.

Propping herself up, she had just taken a step forward when a group of middle-aged men waltzed past her.

It so happened that as they moved, they made Serbian and Colton uncomfortable. So the two men used the opportunity to slip away to somewhere quieter to converse.

Kelsie frowned harder when she didn’t see them after the men left.

She hadn’t seen Serbian Howard since that day at the hospital—was she just conjuring him up in her mind?

Sighing, she sat down again, eyes darting to the entrance.

She had seen how intense the security out front was. There was no way someone could come in with a pistol without getting caught.

Pressing a hand against her temple, she leaned back in her seat, realizing what was happening.

Her drugs were obviously messing with her.

As she lay there, eyes sealed shut, she failed to notice the two men walk past her to the other side of the room to take champagne glasses.

"Colton, is it just me or do you seem to be looking for someone?" After a while, Serbian couldn’t help asking.

The entire time they spoke, he couldn’t help but notice how the man kept glancing around.

Colton shifted his gaze to him, smiling forcefully. "It’s nothing. Just... this party is hosted by the Adler family, but I don’t seem to see any of them nearby."

To this, Serbian smiled.

"Oh, that. It’s a socialite party. Once it’s time for the gift-giving, the celebrants should make an entrance."

"Speaking of family, you seem to be the only one here. Don’t you at least travel with an assistant?"

Colton raised the glass to his lips, taking a sip before responding, "I had something urgent to take care of and couldn’t come with anyone. I’d appreciate it if you didn’t inform your family about my coming."

Serbian didn’t think too much about it and nodded, his eyes also roving across the place.

As the best hacker in Silicon Valley, he was one of the many people invited to the party.

At first, he didn’t want to come, but when he recalled Kelsie might be here, he changed his mind.

He still needed to apologize to her for what he did at the courthouse the other day.

The duo stood around for several seconds before the crowd suddenly fell silent.

That was their cue to look toward the stairs, and sure enough, Selene Arthur was being helped down the stairs by her husband.

Craig and Boyce stood by their side, holding their hands as they came down.

Every member of the Adler family soon followed, but the next important person everyone expected to see was nowhere to be found.

"What’s happening? Could it be true?"

"What is true?"

"I heard the Adler family removed Jett Adler as the head of Adler Group since he’s courting a woman with children."

"Where did you hear that? Since when does he get together with wo..."

"Stop talking and think doing something to help yourselves. If Jett Adler really left the Adler family, then this is the time to start building a connection all over again with the new head. Who do you think it’ll be? Boyce or Craig Adler?"

While they whispered and clamored to the front, Kelsie finally got the opening to leave.

But just then, a hand pressed down on her shoulder, waving a brown envelope as the man whispered, "Sister-in-law, I got the DNA results."

"Oh, right," Kelsie hummed, reaching for it.

Zade had temporarily forgotten what Laura said a week ago, so she hadn’t felt the need to bring up the DNA again.

Taking it, she got on her feet and began strutting upstairs.

Following the message Jett sent her, she found the door, knocked twice before pushing it open.

Inside the room, Zade and Keira lay on the bed playing games on their phones while Jesse sat in a corner.

"I fear I might’ve agreed to something you wouldn’t like." Jett sighed as soon as she stepped in.

"What’s that?"

"Just... once Grandfather shows Grandma the triplets, those in the reception will know about them and what they look like..."

Kelsie stared at him with a stiff smile.

Indeed, she didn’t want that.

Growing up in a family like the Suttons was constrictive enough and she couldn’t imagine what growing up in the Adler family would be like.

But recalling that they still had both parents, she didn’t worry too much. Most importantly, she needed to make it clear to those from Lioren that her children were off-limits.

Once they were known as the great-grandchildren of Jack Adler, surely people would think twice before messing with them.

"As long as no photos of their faces will be taken, I’m fine with it."

All of a sudden, the man embraced her.

"If I hadn’t met you, Grandfather would’ve had me marry a random woman. Thank you for coming into my life."

He was so moved, he temporarily forgot her condition and embraced her tighter.

Kelsie winced silently but didn’t turn away. Instead, she wrapped one hand around him, patting him gently on the shoulder with the other.

On the bed, Zade and Keira dropped their phones, cupping their faces in their hands, their big blue eyes watching the sight in front of them in satisfaction.

"We did it, Zade."

"You think one day they’ll know we had something to do with their coming together?"

"Hopefully Jesse doesn’t tattle on us."

"You wish. If he dares to, we’ll scare him into thinking Grandma will no longer like him."

Zade laughed.

Jesse thought he hid it well enough, but the thought of having a grandmother was something he never imagined he’d have.

He had seen the photos of her in Kelsie’s room.

Even though Kelsie hadn’t said anything to them, he had the feeling everything that had happened to her all this while was because of the woman in that picture.

So when he heard they’d be introduced to Daddy’s grandmother, he got excited—his still-immature mind thinking it was only logical that his mother would forget about the woman in the photo once she saw Selene.

Jett’s phone rang at that moment. After answering it, all six of them left the room.

"Mrs. Adler, this isn’t just any normal tonic. It’s made with a two hundred years old ginseng..."

Halfway into the gift-giving, Selene Arthur’s mind shifted from the words of the blabbering woman in front of her.

Her husband had yet to give her anything.

In all their years of marriage, he was always the first to give her a gift. However, this morning she’d woken up quite disappointed.

He only served her breakfast in bed, brought in her dress but no gift.

Not that she wasn’t grateful, but her mind couldn’t help wandering. Insecurities she hadn’t thought of in years slowly crept in.

Did he finally realize how old she was? Or was it because she’d spoken too loudly this morning?

In a split second, she ran through everything she had done that day, realizing she’d done a lot of things very wrong.

Beside her, Jack Adler reached to take her gift when she didn’t budge after the woman finished speaking.

He pretended not to see her watching him, barely able to count the seconds before Kelsie and Jett came down with the triplets.

After the last person handed over his gift, Craig nudged Boyce forward.

Biting down on his lower lip, Boyce exhaled shakily, "Grandfather, Father told me something about Jett."

"Not now, Boyce," Jack frowned, feeling the cozy ambience he’d worked so hard to create about to slip away.

Still being pushed by his father, Boyce gnashed his teeth in irritation, raising his voice in exasperation

"If not now, then when? He keeps disappointing you, but you keep letting yourself! I can’t stand it anymore."

"If you continue letting him, sooner than later, he’ll run the company into the ground just because he got together with some ex-convict!"

Jack’s eyes instantly darkened, and he resisted the urge to glare at his stubborn grandson who clearly didn’t know how to read the room.

Selene, on the other hand, gasped, genuinely taken aback. "Wh-what are you talking about?"

By now, the room was dead silent.

While some exchanged triumphant looks, having suspected the woman Jett Adler was dating was dangerous, others who didn’t know simply leaned in to hear more.

Jack tilted his head to look at Boyce, his voice calm as he asked, "Where did you hear that?"

Boyce swallowed, his eyes darting toward his father.

He didn’t know. He had simply done what his father instructed him to do.

With Jack’s eyes on him, he couldn’t even think of a lie as he was too frozen with fear.

However, Craig had anticipated this and stepped forward, shaking his head sadly as he spoke.

"Father, about a week ago, I got a call saying Kelsie Sutton was being arraigned for murder."

"I thought they were bluffing, so I followed up on it, but Jett seems to be covering the news somehow, so I couldn’t find out much.

"However, I’ve come to find that Kelsie Sutton hasn’t left her apartment building in a week. She hasn’t visited her practice either."

"In fact, it’s been closed for a few days. If that doesn’t point to her being incarcerated for her crime, I don’t know what does..."

While he was still speaking, Colton Reed raised his eyes and saw his target coming down the stairs.

With everyone so distracted, he reached for his pistol, cocked it, and aimed it at Jett.
