Oops, Mommy Slept With A Tyrant

Chapter 269 A Pistol In The Party

Chapter 269 A Pistol In The Party

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The loud banging on the door of their room caused Jett and Kelsie to stop smooching.

"You locked the door?" Kelsie asked, hurriedly reaching for her shirt on the floor.

Jett hummed, turning toward the door with apprehension.

"Mommy! Daddy! There’s a man outside!" Jesse’s voice rang out after a moment.

The duo exhaled in relief, but the next second, Kelsie’s brows knitted into a frown and she hurried to the door.

Pulling it open, she looked down at Jesse, her gaze shifting to the laptop in his hands. "Baby, why would you knock so loudly because of that?"

Jesse held the laptop properly and turned it for her to see.

"There’s a man outside. I checked the footage and he’s been there for ten minutes without knocking."

Kelsie thinned her lips and reached for the laptop.

"After what happened this afternoon, the apartment building’s security shouldn’t have let anyone up without calling first," she muttered, massaging the back of her neck.

Lifting his head, Jesse raised his brows inquisitively. "You think it’s Aunt Laura in a male costume?"

Inside, Jett couldn’t find where he tossed his pants, so he had to rush to the closet for a new pair.

As he walked back in, he heard Jesse and quickened his steps.

"Aunt Laura? Did she return?"

Kelsie handed the laptop over to him, and his eyes narrowed.

"I’ll go outside to..."

"Oh, he’s leaving." Kelsie paused as the man suddenly turned and began strutting toward the elevator. "Could he have lost his way?"

The entire time, he didn’t raise his head, nor did he look toward the camera, so there was nothing outwardly suspicious about him.

As the family dismissed it and returned to their day, Colton Reed leaned against the elevator wall, his eyes lifting as he coyly stared into the camera.

Since his grandfather said to get it done quickly, he’d come to Silicon Valley immediately.

He didn’t really know the full capabilities of this Jett Adler. But given how this was one of the Adler’s many establishments, he clearly wasn’t anything ordinary.

For the next few days, Colton laid low, renting a place nearby so he could watch them.

He surveyed them so casually that the family of five didn’t suspect they were being watched.

Five days later, Kelsie could walk without the help of the wheelchair and without bending to the side.

It was also the post-birthday party of Selene Arthur, and the triplets wouldn’t stop talking about it.

Even Jesse, who tried not to get excited, couldn’t help joining the conversation whenever he heard Zade and Keira giggling about it.

"So we’re going to Grandmother’s post-birthday party this evening? Shouldn’t we go at least an hour early so we don’t miss anything?" Keira sighed, glancing at the time on her watch after squeezing herself into the pirate costume she wanted to wear for the day.

Buttoning his shirt near his bedroom door, Jesse poked out his head and immediately snorted when he saw her.

"Isn’t this a birthday? Why are you dressed like you’re going to a comic convention?"

Keira looked herself over before shrugging. "I didn’t like the princess gowns Daddy and I saw yesterday. But I like this one."

At that moment, Zade walked out of his parents’ room and was perplexed to see his siblings already dressed and ready.

"Why are you two already dressed? The party isn’t until this evening."

"It’s good to prepare early, Zade. That way, we won’t be running late," Jesse muttered, putting on his shoes.

Zade squinted at him. "I know that. I’m just surprised we’re getting ready at 4 PM when the party starts at 7."

Jesse paused, a flicker of reconsideration passing through his eyes before he shook it off.

"I don’t know. I just want to get ready on time."

Keira strutted over and patted him understandingly on the shoulder, then leered at Zade. "Our brother is excited about something. Don’t ruin that."

Zade simply huffed and turned back toward their parents’ room.

Jett returned a few minutes before six to change out of his work clothes and get ready.

Because of the bandage on her arm, Kelsie couldn’t wear a gown and opted for the same pirate outfit as Keira.

Not because it was her only option but because out of everything they could’ve bought after skipping the princess dress, she found it too bizarre her sweet daughter had decided to be a pirate.

Once it was thirty minutes past six, they left the apartment building through Jett’s private elevator.

Since it was something small, a venue other than the Adler family house had been chosen for the party. It was about twenty minutes away.

Twenty minutes later, the car pulled to a halt and Kelsie looked outside—and almost gasped.

"You said it was a small gathering."

Jett nodded, looking out with her at the bustling environment. "Mhm. After everything, Grandmother agreed to let three thousand people come to her party."

She was astounded.

"Three thousand people for a small party? Just how many guests did she entertain on her actual birthday? Do you even know all these people?"

He chuckled and signaled for Eric to drive around to a less crowded area.

"Our parties are usually anticipated because we make them an avenue for people to befriend one another. It’s more of a networking event where people show off their wealth than a simple post-birthday celebration."

Kelsie thinned her lips, her eyes widening slightly in realization. "Ah, so when they show off what they have, they’re more likely to be approached by others."

"You get it." He hummed and stepped out of the car, hurrying over to her side to help her out.

The triplets hopped down one after the other once their mother alighted.

Eric led them into the building through another entrance, away from the paparazzi crowding the front.

As they left, another car pulled up beside theirs. A man stared down at their license plate in the mirror, face stoic.

Glancing around for any surveillance cameras and spotting none, he turned off the engine and reached into the compartment—pulling out a pistol.

Colton Reed tucked it into the waistband of his suit pants before stepping out.

Confirming it wasn’t visible, he blended into the crowd moving toward the entrance in front.

After a week of gathering information about Jett, he’d come to realize the Adler family were at best a second-tier family in Lioren—but as the heir of the Reed family, he couldn’t afford to take unnecessary risks.

His plan tonight was simple: wait until the party hit its peak, when people stopped paying attention. Then he’d stalk toward Jett and empty his bullets into him.

If a gunshot went off in a place like this, there’d be a stampede—making it really easy to disappear in the chaos.

But the venue was huge, and he didn’t want to draw attention to himself, so he stood in a corner, eyes scanning for Jett and Kelsie.

Two tables away, Kelsie sat, head lowered and phone pressed to her ear as she sighed.

"The tiredness wasn’t supposed to kick in for another two hours, so I’m sure I just need to rest for a few minutes."

"No, don’t send anyone. If I don’t come find you before the gift-giving starts, I’ll just find you once everyone has lined up. With them all so desperate to win your family’s favor, I doubt anyone will notice me going up."

"Yeah. Don’t tell the kids how I’m feeling. Just say I followed a server to get water. Of course. See you."

The room was filled with three thousand people, so Colton hadn’t heard her clearly enough to recognize her voice.

Picking a drink from the tray of a passing server, he was just about to take a sip when a hand grabbed his.

Following the hand on his, Colton didn’t stop until his eyes settled on the person’s slightly unfamiliar face.

"Do we know each other?"

Serbian Howard peered into his face for some seconds before he nodded.

"Aren’t you Colton Reed of the Reed family?"

Colton grew tense, his eyes dimming.

What? Did a family from Lioren find out about Kelsie already?

Clenching the glass tightly, he squeezed out a small smile, "How do you know who I am?"

"I may have worked on your company’s server a few years ago." Serbian answered.

Colton paused, exhaling silently in relief.

His Reed family had only employed one person over the years to care for their server.

Though it was a while since they met, he hadn’t forgotten about Serbian as he was one of the best men in tech he knew.

"Serbian Howard?"

"You remember."

Beside them, Kelsie lowered her phone and scanned the crowd with her eyes. When she spotted someone familiar, she paused to peer at the person he was with.

She was just about to look away when her eyes caught the unmistakable bulge of a Glock under Colton’s suit.
