Chapter 263 I’ve Come To Strike A Deal
Chapter 263 I’ve Come To Strike A Deal
Country Lioren, Caldrin District
The Reed family house.
For a call Kelsie groggily picked up to answer, the entire Reed family surrounded a tall and lanky man with a straight posture.
He held his phone with one hand, leaving the call on speaker for everyone to hear.
"Kelsie, do you hear me?"
"Ever heard of an engagement annulment?" All of a sudden, Kelsie scoffed.
The faces of everyone turned grim.
"That will be an insult to both our families. If one of the two most powerful families suddenly do such a thing, what will people say?"
Beep!
His question was met by the sound of the call ending.
Taken aback, he dialed her number again only to be busied. When he tried it a second time, it no longer connected.
"Decisive and swift, reminds me so much of her mother."
Sitting on a white couch, an elderly man laughed, reaching out for the piece of sliced apple in the plate in front of him.
"Father, I think we shouldn’t go ahead with this. The people already think Lois Langford’s daughter is dead. We can always feign ignorance when they speak to us about it later."
"That only means you’ll have to marry a woman fast. And what do you think the people will think when we suddenly begin combing through the country looking for a woman befitting of your status?" The elderly man sneered.
The room naturally fell silent.
After a while, a middle-aged woman stepped forward to reason wirh them.
"But then... I don’t think we should do that. Think about it. The Langford family has more backing than any family in Lioren. Despite Luca Langford’s frivolity, the family remains strong."
"Currently, neither one of the Langford family are in Lioren. They’ve not been for a few months now, yet everything remains the same. A family like that isn’t one we should shy away from."
"If this Kelsie really is just like her mother, then think of what we stand to benefit if we manage to get her back to Lioren and get her to marry into our family."
She was making sense. Way too much sense.
"Mother is right. Even if I don’t want to do it, I know better than to shy away from my responsibility. I will go out there and convince Kelsie to come to Lioren and claim her place."
"Now you’re just sounding like the entire family is making on you to make this happen. You all seem to forget I have a son too." Someone huffed, drawing everyone’s attention to her.
It was a brunette woman who was about the same age as the woman who gave the first suggestion.
As she spoke, she turned to the side and pushed forward a really lanky boy.
He was seated, but he seemed just as tall as Colton but younger.
"I know he’s engaged to you, but to be honest, back then, we didn’t state which one of your father’s son would marry her."
"Since your father has two sons from different women, then it’s only right both his sons are given equal chances to be with her, don’t you think?"
Aubrey Carter was an outspoken woman. Said whatever she wanted and whenever she did.
It was because of this attitude she comfortably seduced a married man and shamelessly found her way into the Reed family as a mistress.
While everyone watched their words around the patriarch, she didn’t.
She was from the Carter family and had several family heads as in-laws. Because of this, no one could really do anything about her as one word from and the Reed family could be in trouble.
"Charles is a little too young for Kelsie. Isn’t he still 19?" Colton frowned.
Aubrey casually waved her hand at him. "He turns twenty in a few months. And isn’t it just a few years difference? It barely means anything. I’m sure Kelsie Sutton won’t even mind."
Jennifer Cohen, Colton’s mother, leaned forward at this moment, voicing out in concern, "Your son, doesn’t he have a girlfriend? Why don’t we hear from his mouth what he really wants?"
Aubrey wrapped a hand around her son and pulled him closer, eyed pinned on Jennifer as she scoffed, "I know my son better than anyone. He knows this will make his grandfather happy, so he won’t dare to suggest otherwise, isn’t that Charles?"
Charles Reed, however, kept mum, his eyes darting across the room for his father.
However, the reason for this sizzling tension, was wise enough to stay off.
Unlike Colton, Charles took after his father’s cowardice and would rather run off than to face problem.
Seeing him lower his eyes, Aubrey’s eyes darkened and she glared hard at him.
"What? Are you already intimidated by your brother? So what if he’s the elder one, you can totally run the Reed family way better than him!"
"That is enough." A stern voice suddenly spoke up.
The room instantly fell silent as everyone looked toward the elderly man.
Dean Reed took his time chewing the remaining apple before raising his eyes to meet Colton’s.
"Our Reed family have always been on the good side of this country. That is why Lois Fletcher chose us out of everyone to be her daughter’s in-laws."
"We all know she rarely makes mistakes. So if she said it’s to be my first grandson, then it’ll be him."
"Now, it is still quiet so it doesn’t seem like a lot of people heard about Kelsie. We have to get to her before more people learn of her existence."
After speaking, he got on his feet to leave when Colton called out with a question, "She’s currently courting Jett Adler, what do we do about that one?"
Dean shrugged but didn’t stop, "What do you think?"
While this was happening, back Silicone Valley, Kelsie ended the call, blacklisted the number and tried to go back to sleep only to realize it was gone.
Frustrated, she got out of bed, grabbing her medicine before strutting out of the room.
She walked straight to the dining table and ate the first thing she found on it.
She had just taken the medicine when the door was pushed open and Jett came in.
"So I got a few things on my way back. There was this shoe. I went to check it then I saw a dress, a purse and then this very cute ribbon."
Kelsie had returned back to eating, her back turned to him.
With her mouth still busy with chewing, she was about to nod in understanding and relate to him only to realize he wasn’t the only one in the room with her.
Squinting her eyes at a spot in the living room which was quickly growing with bags of things, she paused and turned her head to look at him.
Jett caught her looking and smiled sheepishly.
"You said you bought a few things? You didn’t say you bought a store." Seeing the spot broaden to half the size of the room, Kelsie couldn’t hold it in any longer and said amidst chewing.
Jett, however, didn’t retort immediately as he hurried over to help some movers holding a large box.
As he strutted toward Kelsie, he pointed at another group, warning, "Be careful with that. It’s very delicate."
Once they dropped it down carefully, he exhaled in relief and turned to Kelsie, beaming broadly.
"I never realized why women shop so much until I entered that store today. Everywhere I looked, I saw something I wanted to buy for you and the kids. I even got some things for myself."
"At some point, Adler Group called to ask if I lost my credit card or something. Shopping is addicting. I think I’m addicted."
Kelsie listened to him talk for several seconds before she shrugged and continued eating.
At least one of them likes shopping.
It took over five minutes before the crew finished bringing up everything.
Jett got up to look for the receipt only to find a long role of paper.
"I suddenly recall some other things I should’ve bought. Remind me to visit the store again tomo... why are you looking at me like that?"
Pointing at her face, Kelsie narrowed her eyes at him, "Oh, my face? I think this is the look I’ll always make whenever you go out to shop for this much things then say you forgot to buy other things."
Jett thinned his lips and lowered his eyes, quietly squeezing out, "Actually, I may have also ordered some things online."
"You may or you did?" Kelsie was rendered speechless.
Jett’s eyes guiltily darted everywhere but her face.
When the doorbell broke through the tense silence, he didn’t hesitate and dashed toward the door.
Thinking it was the things he ordered, Kelsie followed suit.
However, they were met by the last person they expected to see.
She stood in front of the door, her hoodie’s cap pulled over head.
"Colton Reed wants your boyfriend’s life. I’ve come to save it and in exchange, tell your boyfriend to stop haunting me."
