Oops, Mommy Slept With A Tyrant

Chapter 262 What They Don’t

Chapter 262 What They Don’t

An hour later, Eric returned with news.

"Sir, she isn’t at the practice. I waited an hour, and she didn’t return. But I asked security to keep an eye out for her and contact me as soon as she turns up."

Jett barely hummed in understanding and thinned his lips, eyes staring into nothing.

It finally made sense why he couldn’t get a hold of either Kelsie or Keira when they went missing.

Even when he found Kelsie and redirected everyone’s attention to finding Keira, no one still found her.

When a powerful man like him couldn’t find something, it was either nowhere to be found, or hidden lost.

Then out of nowhere, Molly called to say she was sleeping right in the office.

Recalling how Molly was in the hospital the day Kelsie got shot by Serbian, he unhurriedly tapped his finger against his desk.

Didn’t that mean what she said about sneaking in to see Kelsie was nothing but a lie?

After all, if she really snuck in to see Kelsie and saw them, she wouldn’t ask them to leave.

Yet, she pretended to be a nurse and asked them to leave out.

If she was working with Luca Langford, then it was highly likely she merely made that story up when they burst through the door.

To think she was right under their noses this entire time and they never knew.

Exhaling deeply, he tilted his head toward Eric.

"Get me Molinda’s file. I want to know how she was able to plan something so elaborate and almost got away with it."

Eric didn’t understand what was going on, but he understood this was a sensitive time for his boss.

If the news hadn’t been shielded from the public, he was certain the day Kelsie got shot would still be the talk of the town.

He had just bowed and turned around to leave when he remembered something and came back.

"The judge presiding over Ms. Sutton’s case made his verdict in her absence. He ruled not guilty due to insufficient evidence and lack of motive to commit the murder."

Jett glanced up at him.

Typical.

A woman being shot three times in the courtroom was a problem not just for the police but also for the judge.

For one thing, they feared for their own life and didn’t want someone who could attract such chaos entangled in their court.

Furthermore, the evidence provided by the prosecutor wasn’t damning enough to condemn Kelsie, so the judge thought it better to pronounce her not guilty so it wouldn’t boomerang on him if she happened to die on the operating table.

When Jett snapped out of his momentary reverie, he was met with Eric stretching an envelope toward him.

"This is from the court. It was brought by their courier five days ago."

He reached out to take it, flipped it over briefly, then tossed it onto the desk.

"The house is beautiful." Just then, the door to the room was suddenly pushed open, Kelsie’s comment reaching their ears before she wheeled herself in.

Jett stared behind her, realizing he hadn’t heard her coming because his alarms, the triplets, hadn’t come with her.

Feeling more than one pair of eyes on her, Kelsie paused and raised her gaze, her cheeks instantly stretching into a small smile when she saw Eric.

"Eric! I didn’t know you were around. When did you come in?"

Before Eric could respond, Jett reached for the envelope from the court and waved it slightly.

"He delivered this. It’s a verdict from the court stating you’re not guilty."

"Oh," She mumbled, her brows rising slightly.

Just like Jett, she understood the court’s intent behind the letter.

Closing the door behind her, she wheeled herself properly into the room.

"You know, Jett, Eric has been taking care of things at Adler Group while you stayed at the hospital for the past week and sang my ears off."

Jett immediately scoffed. "I didn’t sing your ears off. You’re just stubborn."

That wasn’t the point.

Though she had a lot to tell him about the many things he hadn’t let her do, she didn’t want to stray from the pressing matter and pointed at Eric’s face worriedly.

"Look at your eyes. Does he even pay you enough for errands like this?"

To this, Eric beamed, his cheeks flushing slightly. "I earn in six figures."

"I hope the six figures start with a number above five." Kelsie leaned back in her seat and huffed.

Folding both hands across his chest, Jett also leaned back and snickered. "Just how cheap do you think I am? I can afford to pay my assistant a lot more than you think."

Kelsie pursed her lips, running out of what to say whilst Eric quietly excused himself.

Once he was gone, she turned to Jett.

"You did good on the house. I didn’t think it’d change so much in a week. How did you even renovate it without caving in the entire building?"

"With money, anything is... If you’re so impressed, why don’t you reward me for my hard work?" Jett was going to respond perfunctorily, but promptly changed his mind, his eyes lighting up when he saw her reach and pull her shirt over her head.

"Reward? What could I possibly give you thah you don’t... what are you doing? Are you a pervert?" She trailed off, dramatically huffing when she saw him take off his shirt as well.

Jett feigned oblivion and simply scoffed, "Your caregiver won’t be here until tomorrow, so I’m the only one you’ve got. And I feel it’s better we bathe together since it’d save us time."

Kelsie paused.

Bathe together?

Without realizing it, her cheeks heated up shyly.

Realizing this, his lips twitched in amusement, "Are you shy right now?"

"What? No!" Though her voice remained firm, she spent over twenty seconds trying to unbutton the button on her pant, her hands trembling greatly.

The rest of the day, Kelsie didn’t remember as the drowsiness from her medicine kicked in the moment she touched the warm water.

The persistent ringing tone of her voice woke her the following morning.

She peeled her eyes open to the sight of a dark room.

The curtains were still drawn, shielding the light from seeping in, but the light in the room was lit enough to see the space beside her was empty.

Tilting her head, she eye-searched the room for several seconds before spotting her phone on the study desk in the corner.

Clenching her teeth, she propped herself up with one hand, the searing pain in her abdomen burning through her body as she sat upright and stepped on the floor.

She walked over to the ringing phone, picked it up and paused when she saw an unknown number sprawled across her screen.

Unknown numbers.

Luca was still in Haven Medical Center, so it couldn’t be him.

Molly had also returned to work to avoid suspicion from Jett.

The next second, her eyes narrowed slightly.

Maxwell Kensington?

While she debated if it was really him, the call ended, and she was met with her screen showing 28 missed calls from the same number.

She was still reading the text when the number began calling again.

Spotting a stick-on note she hadn’t noticed earlier, she answered and pressed the phone to her ear while lowering slightly to read the message Jett left.

"Took the kids to school. Will be back in a jiffy. Your medicine is on the bed stand. Take it with food when you wake up. Love you!"

Straightening up, she lowered the phone to stare at the screen in surprise.

Forty-three seconds since she answered the call, and the caller wasn’t saying anything?

"Kelsie?" As if hearing her thoughts, a masculine voice sounded from the other end.

She squinted into nothing, mentally trying to recall if she found the voice familiar.

"Hello, am I speaking with Kelsie Sutton?" The person asked again when she didn’t respond the first time.

After thinking for a while, she recalled she was known by quite a number of people since she ran a practice.

Possibly, this was one of her many patients calling or it could be someone referred to her by a satisfied one.

Scratching her brow, she turned to head back to bed, stating perfunctorily, "Hi, you’ve reached Kelsie Sutton. I have a thing or two to take care of, so I’m taking a break from the practice and won’t be able to attend to you at the moment."

"I also don’t know how long I’ll be gone, so I suggest to make the acquaintance of another doctor to take care of your needs in he meantime. Thank you for calling."

"You are, Kelsie Sutton, daughter of Lois Fletcher of the Langston family, born on the first of June. A talented young neurosurgeon and a computer guru. You have three children and you seem to be courting Jett Adler." The voice accurately voiced out, prompting her to stop walking.

These were details none of her clients knew.

This wasn’t a patient.

"Are you going to tell me who you are, or should I hang up, blacklist your number, and hope you don’t try to find me?"

He chuckled. "It’s nice to finally meet you, Kelsie. This is Colton Reed. You and I... we were promised to each other long before we were born by our families. You’re my fiancée."
