Chapter 264 Maxwell’s Finding
Chapter 264 Maxwell’s Finding
Kelsie and Jett exchanged glances before she stepped aside, gesturing for Molly to come in.
Molly first glanced around cautiously before stepping inside.
"Before you get any ideas, your apartment isn’t a very good place to kill anyone," she mused as she strolled in.
Carefully walking back in to avoid tearing her stitches, Kelsie scoffed, "Why bother, when sooner or later one of your nemesis will get to you?"
Jett quietly closed the door and walked in after them without a word.
The Reed family. He’d never heard of them before. But Kelsie... she had opened the door so quickly when she heard their name.
And this wasn’t bubbly Molly from her practice. This was Molinda Langston, Luca’s accomplice.
Was he overthinking this or did she know something too?
"Is this a gift store?" Molinda’s question broke through his thoughts and he looked to the side to see her staring at the hundreds of bags heaped on one side of the living room.
Both Jett and Kelsie been waiting for the right time to inform each other of what they knew.
Since Molly came to them, Kelsie naturally had to go first.
Smiling faintly, she pointed at Molly, "I was going to tell you last night, but I fell asleep before I knew it. Molinda here is my cousin."
Jett’s brow lifted up in surprise, genuinely taken aback. "What?"
"Luca Langford is my mother’s sister. And she’s his daughter." Kelsie explained further.
Upon hearing her, Molly shook her finger at them in refusal, clarifying without turning to look at them, "Since my life relies on you, might as well tell you something about our family."
"You see, Kelsie, our mothers and Luca are not identical triplets."
Kelsie frowned. "What do you mean? You don’t happen to be a product of..."
Molly huffed, tilting her head to leer at Kelsie, "No, I’m not a product of improper siblings relationship."
"Luca Langford is just a sick bastard. After your mother left, he became head of the Langford family and made life unbearable for my mom."
"It’s been 20 years, and I still have no idea if she’s alive like he said—or if he killed her and stashed her somewhere."
Though she’d intended to tell the full truth, she stopped talking and thinned her lips, unable to say anymore.
After a while, she pulled out her phone.
"Luca has exposed himself too much. It’s only a matter of time before the Reed family finds out you’re still alive."
"Now recently, the Reed family has been declining. They’ve been pushed down from the high table of first-tier families and now dine with second-tier families."
Jett slipped both hands into his pockets, his brows creasing slightly. "Are you throwing in all this unnecessary jargon to make yourself useful longer than necessary?"
She paused, raising her eyes to meet his with a sneer. "With all the connections you have, you couldn’t find Kelsie or Keira. What makes you think you would’ve found me if I really went into hiding?"
Jett’s jaw ticked, his eyes darkening.
Kelsie thinned her lips.
True. She didn’t understand these people from the Langford family at all, but she had painstakingly come to know they weren’t to be trifled.
All the way from Lioren and they actually upended a wealthy and influential business man who had grown up in Sillicome Valley.
If she hadn’t stepped up in the police car the other day, who knows what that officer would’ve done to her after ending her colleague?
Scratching the bridge of her nose, she snapped her fingers to draw their attention.
"That’s enough. You were saying something about the Reed family."
Molly’s cheek curled into a loop-sided smile, her eyes glistening mischievously. "I’m surprised you know about the Reed family."
Kelsie’s eyes hardened. "I was woken up today by a Colton Reed. So of course I’m interested in hearing why you’re mentioning a Reed less than an hour after one called me."
To be honest, Molly liked Jett... when he was still in the dark about her identity.
Now that he knew who he was, he instantly became insufferable. Imagine sending out hundreds of men to haunt her down. How dramatic.
So when she found out about the Reed family, she immediately ran here, not just to strike a deal, but to gloat.
Twirling the phone in-between her fingers, she stepped forward to place it on table table, explaining, "The Colton family has been close friends with ours for a long time. Our grandfather wanted us to be related. But his children were all betrothed, so he moved on to his grandchildren."
At this point, Jett narrowed his eyes, realization instantly dawning on him, but he didn’t speak up and let Molly continue.
"They say Aunt Lois is the oldest of the triplets, so he said her first child would marry the Reed family’s grandchild."
"So in other words, Colton Reed is betrothed to you. But you can’t get married if you’re with someone else."
"And since I’d complicate things, they’ll have to get rid of me," Jett concluded, almost hissing.
"How bright of you to figure that out!" Molly did nothing to tone down the excitement in her suddenly elevated voice as she took a seat.
"Colton Reed did sound like a reasonable person, how sure about this are you?" The question had barely rolled off Kelsie’s tongue when the phone on the table buzzed.
Molly reached for it and put it on speaker.
"Molinda?" A man’s voice seeped out almost immediately.
"I can hear you."
"It was a family meeting. Colton has to marry Kelsie Langford or his birthright passes to me. He’s dreamed of being heir for as long as I can remember so I’m certain he’ll do whatever it takes to get that Jett Adler out of his way."
"Thank you, Charles." Molinda said, locking eyes with Kelsie.
There was a bit of silence before Charles Reed exhaled shakily.
"Molinda, you’ve been gone for months now. I miss you..."
Beep.
The sentence was cut short by Molly ending the call.
She pocketed the phone, casually revealing, "That was your betrothed’s almost twenty-year-old half-brother."
Kelsie’s lips twitched. "Doesn’t that mean you’re at least five years older?"
Molly huffed. "Are you judging me when Jett is six years older than you?"
Well, when she put it like that, Kelsie couldn’t argue.
Leaning back, Molly crossed one leg on the other and spread her arms wide, a big smile on her face, "Charles tells me everything and he’s never wrong."
"If he says this about Colton, then I suggest your boyfriend start thinking of countermeasures."
"I don’t need countermeasures. I can defend myself just fine," Jett immediately retorted.
She chuckled. "The Adler family is, at best, a second-tier family in Lioren. The Reed family was only demoted to that level a year ago. But that doesn’t mean your family stands a chance against them."
"However, I know much more about the Reeds than you do. Now, do you see why you need me?"
Kelsie glanced at Jett and he returned the look.
Her probing eyes made him strut to Molly’s side.
Gazing down at her, he smacked his lips impatiently, "You’ve made your point, Molinda. Now what is it you want?"
The playfulness in her eyes instantly vanished as she raised her eyes to meet his.
"Luca... I want his life."
Haven Medical Center – Main Branch
Maxwell Kensington arrived at the hospital with his butler at 11am that day.
He hesitated for several seconds before summoning the courage to walk in.
"Hi, I’m here to look at the file of a deceased Ms. Lois Fletcher," he said naturally to the nurse at the front desk.
"One moment, please," the nurse murmured, lowering his gaze to type into the system.
It just so happened that Kelvin Reynolds was strutting about with a group of doctors and heard him mention that name.
Not many people knew of a Lois Fletcher, let alone ask for her. And given the aura emanating from the two men, Kelvin hesitated to approach.
Instead, he watched the nurse type for several seconds before raising his head and shaking it.
Though he couldn’t hear their conversation, he knew the nurse hadn’t found anything. So he was perplexed when, instead of leaving, Maxwell walked over to sit in the waiting area.
Then the nurse reached for the phone and spoke into it briefly.
The moment he put it down, Kelvin’s phone buzzed in his pocket.
Narrowing his eyes, he slipped it out. Seeing it was his secretary, he answered.
"Sir, the front desk just called to say there’s a Maxwell Kensington waiting for you in the lobby."
Kelvin expected it and already prepared an answer, "Tell him to come back another day. I’m busy."
His secretary was silent for a second before she cleared her throat noisily.
"Sir, I took a moment to look up the Kensington family. They’re from Lioren and they wield more influence than the Adler family."
Hearing her, Kelvin’s brow knitted in surprise.
A family more powerful than the Adlers? If he got someone like that invested in Haven Medical Center, they would reach unmeasurable new heights!
Just as he hurried down the stairs to the lobby, Maxwell rose from his seat and headed for the exit.
At a corner, his butler watched impassively as Kelvin rushed after him.
Maxwell didn’t turn until he got outside and climbed into the car.
As soon as it drove off, his phone rang.
"Master, I have a theory."
"Go on." Maxwell hummed, glancing behind him at a disappointed Kelvin Reynolds.
"Master, Kelvin Reynolds isn’t smart enough to kill a woman like Lois Fletcher. So it’s either this fool had help or... she’s not dead."
