Chapter 584: City Commander?

Hao Ren and Jana moved, followed by Ye Si and Ye Peng, the rest of the people were to stay behind and guard the post. The ruined city was their base of operation and with the four of them, hardly any human or demon in the region posed a problem. They didn’t fly for long before they arrived at the gates of the North Star City.

The guards were surprised, these days the movement of the demon hordes have turned very dormant and they could not understand what happened, but since it was going slow for them, the entire city was rather happy. When they suddenly saw Jana and Hao Ren following behind him, they were shocked.

One of the guards asked, "Who goes there?"

Jana was about to reply when Hao Ren floated up in the void and released his aura, letting it collide with the wall and letting it tremor as he said, "I am Hao Ren, and I have come to challenge the city commander."

Concise and clean, that was Hao Ren’s style of approach and just as he said those words, although he was calm, but the usage of heavenly voice skills, caused the voice to spread all over the city. The guards on the walls were shocked, they recalled the scene when Jana had come back with a few people from the mainland and how these people have managed to turn around the tables while fighting with the demons surrounding the city. However, later over a small instruction to get checked for demon energy the people left. It was something that the whole city discussed about for a few days, before they forgot all about it.

They didn’t expect that someone would come back and try to find them and not only were they not pleading for shelter, but even looking for a challenge. The entire city was set abuzz. Hao Ren waited for a few minutes before he said, "It seems that the City Commander would only come out of his hole after I have given him a display of my strength, right?"

He exhaled a breath and it turned into a spectacle that shocked the people. It was akin to a dragon breathing fire, but now a young man had filled the entire sky with clouds of flame. The people could feel the temperature rising, and it was not just warm, slowly it began to heat up, the people had to use their spiritual energy to shield themselves. They began to cry for the City Commander to go out and face the guy after all, they were not fools, they could tell that the power of these flames was high and that Hao Ren was certainly holding back.

However, despite all of this, the City Commander didn’t come out. Hao Ren chuckled, and he asked, "Weren’t you all very arrogant about having a city commander here when I came for the first time? Not only did you ungrateful people have any gratitude in your hearts, you were even accusing me of contracting infection from the demonic energy, right? Now burn because your city commander is a coward."

His words were a simple guading tactic but they didn’t seem to have any effect, finally Hao Ren searched the place with his divine sense and he was shocked, he found that the City Commander was sitting inside his abode the tower in the center of the city but he didn’t have any vitality left.

He asked, "The City Commander is about to die, how so?"

His voice was soft but everyone heard it, they all became very anxious, and all the city folk turned to look at just one person, this man was the second in command and right now he was standing above the high tower, and his face was particularly ugly. Hao Ren used the hypnotizing skill as he looked directly at the man and asked, "What happened?"

The ugly second in command said, "Humph that old bastard, I had to make a lot of effort to suck away his spiritual energy. Finally after six months he succumbed and just when I was about to make a breakthrough you came."

The shock of this revelation was so hard that the people were shocked. They could not make the heads of tail of this situation, well, the author wants to make them look dumb.

Hao Ren continued questioning, "Why did you do it?"

The man scowled and replied, "What else? Power. I wanted to have the strength to kill anyone I wanted and to rule this fucking city."

As he was speaking, his neck was getting darker like ink with every second. Jana yelled, "He has been infected by Demonic energy."

Hao Ren frowned and waved his hand, the power he commande was so strong that it directly broke the city protection barrier and Hao Ren moved inside. He appeared one meter away from the man and grabbed his neck in his palm as he asked, "Who else is infected here?"

The man chuckled and began to talk, he gave out several names, and just like that the entire city witnessed the rise of several Demon Minions, and they were in very high quantity. A city of thousand people had around ninety infected, this was enough to tell one about the lapses that were going on here. Hao Ren then channeled his flames through the body of the second in command and burned him into ashes along with the wisps of demonic energy that escaped his body. Then he waved his hand and cast several small plumes of flame scatter through the void, they all targeted the people who were attacking others.

Hao Ren could sense the number of his merit points rising high with every kill. He then landed in the city and said, "Tell the people who have been affected to come over and get themselves treated. They can still be saved."

The victims flocked over, and thanked Hao Ren, they held nothing but gratitude in their minds now, because he had not only killed the demons, but also saved them all from the fate of despair. They would have turned into demons, the very beings they hated. This was not something that a prideful human would want. After a thorough clean up of the city, Hao Ren told Jana, "You can handle the affairs of the old city commander yourself. I would like to find my own city, so if he agrees, maybe ask him to let me handle my things."

Jana nodded but then he asked, "Who would take on this city then?"

Hao Ren shrugged his shoulder and said, "You can take it over, I mean, you have that skill."

Jana was shocked, and Hao Ren just patted his shoulder and walked to the side to talk to the Ye generals and Jana got busy with the funeral arrangements. Ye Jian asked, "Young master, why did you tell him to go and stay here? I mean, he was a great help for the rest of us."

Hao Ren shook his head and replied, "Do you think I cannot see? His heart already has a small shadow of doubt, not in others but in himself. This will not help him climb the higher pedestal that he wants."

The two people nodded, this was exactly what they feared earlier. However, now that Hao Ren had seen through the situation, they would not be speaking about it. They trusted Hao Ren completely, and after looking around, Hao Ren said, "We can probably use this place as a communication center, what do you think?"

Ye Si looked around and then she looked at the sky and asked, "The ceiling is low, for the array. You will either need to create an array with a higher ceiling or let the Comm module hang low."

Hao Ren shook his head and said, "This is not gonna work, we can just shoot it high and equip it with arrays to stay hidden and move around if someone has spotted it. What do you think?"

Ye Jian said, "Given the fact that the module is just as big as a palm now, we can totally hide it with the arrays. Just leave it to fly around and probe the whole world and see how things would be like."

Hao Ren nodded and said, "Fine, also, I was thinking that after we take charge of the Ruined City we should call over Xiao Mei along with some working bots to create a city from ground up, using the skeleton of the old city, and also expand it a little. I saw that merit could be exchanged to create a city. In the area of three thousand kilometers, there is no other human city so we can totally expand our place."

Ye Jian nodded and said, "Using that window and Xiao Mei, we can totally come up with a teleportation array between the two realms."

Hao Ren agreed, and after a couple of hours, Jana came over and said, "Hao Ren, you can now take on as the city commander."

He took out a small jade seal and said, "This is what you need, I have used my own merits for this, refine it with your blood and bury it in the location you want, thirty kilometer is the initial radius for the city."

Hao Ren thanked him and then left the North Star City with Ye Si and Ye Jian.
