Chapter 1510 811: Hank's Decision
For Jimmy, there wasn't much difference between day and night; nighttime was even a bit better since he didn't have to pay too much attention to the people around him. The laundry factory was on the outer edge of the suburbs, and under normal circumstances, there wouldn't be many residents wandering nearby at night.
Waiting is the most painful thing, especially when the person he needs to focus on doesn't know when they'll show up. After two days of surveillance, he finally saw someone enter the laundry workshop at night, turn on a piece of equipment, and head down to the basement through a back door.
Seeing only the silhouette makes it very difficult to ascertain the equipment or what's being transported, but at least he could see that the cart carried square boxes. A small freight elevator brought the boxes up to the ground, and they were loaded into an adjacent delivery truck, which then drove away from the laundry factory.
Jimmy quickly ran back to his car, turned off the lights, and followed from a distance. They weren't moving fast. After turning down a few roads in the suburbs, the truck turned towards a chicken farm. Jimmy watched them hurry into the chicken farm and didn't dare to immediately turn and follow as the surveillance spot on the slope hadn't been removed and driving in would directly expose him.
He continued driving forward for a bit, hid his car, and then jogged from the side towards the chicken farm. The outskirts were very desolate, and there was a faint light from the chicken farm, which acted as a landmark.
After circling around the chicken farm, he approached near a hill and indeed found a space with simple army beds and chairs inside. Additionally, there were some weapons on the ground. One person lay on a bed, another sat on a chair, and in front of them was likely a telescope mounted on a tripod, facing the road in front of the chicken farm. This was a hidden security post, not for internal use.
This worked to his advantage; entering the chicken farm from behind would keep him out of their sight and make it easier for Jimmy to take action.
Jimmy didn't intend to kill anyone. He wanted to understand the drug route and try to dismantle Gus's gang rather than take down just this chicken farm. Once a murder occurs, they would surely vanish instantly, breaking off all previously discovered clues.
Moving slowly, Jimmy spotted the delivery truck from before, but it was now empty, and the boxes were gone. Observing nearby, he saw five people gathered around a table inside a chicken farm building. Judging by their actions, they seemed to be weighing, vacuum-filling, and sealing packages — this was their processing plant.
Jimmy smiled, keeping his distance and concealed in a corner, watching them.
The group sealed up the goods from several boxes and then took cylindrical containers from the side, beginning to pack the sealed items into them.
Jimmy could only see the items going into the barrels but could not see their contents; it seemed to be a liquid inside. Subsequently, someone covered them with lids and stored them in a warehouse on one side, then left the plant. Clearly, they did not plan to ship the goods immediately.
Jimmy was frustrated, as there would certainly be many people around the chicken farm during the day, making it hard to infiltrate again and difficult to learn how they would transport the goods.
Even if he couldn't find out their method of transport, he needed to first confirm what was inside those barrels. Jimmy observed the surroundings of the chicken farm; there didn't appear to be any cameras, suggesting they knew that what they were doing couldn't leave any evidence, as keeping surveillance would easily divulge their actions.
This worked to his advantage. Approaching the factory building, the door was locked after the group left, but it didn't matter. Jimmy climbed to a window high above, hanging on while using a small flashlight to peek inside. The room contained barrels with Fried Chicken Brothers' logos, likely materials for their fried chicken stores. Packing them in such a round barrel would suggest it contained a pre-mixed batter or similar substances.
After confirming the contents, Jimmy climbed down and exited from the back of the chicken farm without alerting anyone to the fact that he'd discovered their crucial blue ice transportation route.
Jimmy returned to his car, ran for a while in the wilderness before turning on his headlights to head back. As he passed the chicken farm, he took extra care in observing; nothing was amiss, clearly indicating that they hadn't noticed him.
The mission almost allowed him to deduce their operational route: under the guise of the laundry factory, a large-scale blue ice production lab was set up underground, utilizing Walter's special talents as a genius chemist to produce the blue ice. Afterward, at the chicken farm, the finished blue ice was packaged and then shipped during deliveries to the numerous Fried Chicken Brothers outlets across the city. As long as someone took delivery at a Fried Chicken Brothers store, it would be distributed by dealers across their respective territories.
Fried Chicken Brothers didn't just have outlets in Albuquerque; they had stores in neighboring states within New Mexico as well. A unified supply chain wouldn't arouse suspicion from anyone. Moreover, with the high footfall in chicken outlets, a slight carefulness would ensure that no one's entrance or exit garnered attention, whether they were wealthy or street thugs, as fried chicken, hamburgers, and sodas are always in demand.
After a night's rest, Jimmy returned to the DEA office. This time he needed to acquire some special equipment from the tech department: a remote-control drone, a remote listening device, a camera with a high-power lens. Initially planning to handle it himself, he was denied these items due to their specialized nature. Under Deputy Investigator Chief Hawke's authorization, the surveillance team brought a tech department support member along to accompany Jimmy as they departed to monitor the chicken farm.
