Chapter 1462 - 787: Reunion

Chapter 1462 - 787: Reunion

Jimmy conveniently checked inside the house and didn't find anything unusual, but the Heart Eye Vision always has its flaws, so he still had to inspect it personally.

Roland was feeling quite frustrated sitting in the basement. Earlier, he heard someone in the house and knocked on the secret door for a long time, only for the people inside to leave. He couldn't hear any other sounds and had to continue waiting on the stairs.

Finally, he heard a voice again. Jimmy called out from above, "Who's down there?"

Roland turned his head towards the secret door, "It's me, Roland."

Jimmy: "Are you alone?"

Roland: "Yes, Jimmy, open the door."

Jimmy: "Hold on, let me move some things out of the way first."

Jimmy moved the box on the secret door aside, grasped the handle to lift the hidden door, and pushed it to one side. Roland emerged from within, accompanied by the smell of not having bathed for a long time, prompting Jimmy to immediately step back two paces.

Jimmy chuckled and said, "How long have you been out in the wild? Go take a shower first, we can talk later."

Roland sniffed himself, "It's only been a month or two without a bath, all right then."

Jimmy: "Wait, let me take a look downstairs first, safety first."

The basement light was on, and Jimmy stood on the stairs observing. Besides the cover near the portal being all messed up, everything else seemed in order, so he left the basement, closed the secret door, and led Roland to the bathroom.

Roland only had a carry-on bag, but it was likely that his clothing hadn't been washed in quite a while either. Jimmy handed him a set of clothes he hadn't worn, to put outside the bathroom. He also fetched an unused towel from under the bathroom sink and gave it to Roland in the bathroom before phoning Nia, reassuring her.

Nia was relieved to hear there was no danger and that Roland had returned, so she did not wait any longer, leaving the church and heading home. When she arrived, Jimmy mentioned Roland was taking a shower, and they both waited in the living room, brewing a pot of coffee.

Roland hadn't bathed for quite some time, so he filled the bathtub, showered first, and then soaked comfortably in the tub.

In the Dark Tower World, there were no such luxuries. Bathing there involved finding a little river to clean up simply or soaking in a waterhole, incomparable to the hot water and a bathtub. After enjoying the soak, he got out of the bathtub.

While Roland enjoyed his soak, Jimmy and Nia had been waiting long enough outside. If Jimmy hadn't known Roland was all right inside, he would have knocked on the door.

"Hey, Nia, how are you and the kid?" Roland changed into Jimmy's clothes and entered the living room. Although they were about the same height, Roland was more muscular, so the clothes fit snugly on him. However, they were much better than his old set, at least they didn't smell.

After greeting Nia, Roland fetched his bag, retrieved a necklace made of animal teeth, and said, "I made this myself, I hope you like it."

Nia thanked him with a smile, examining the necklace, which was made of brown rope, appearing to be woven hemp, adjoined with teeth of various sizes.

Jimmy asked, "What kind of animal teeth are these?"

Roland replied, "Wolf and bear, all trophies from recent hunts. Don't worry, they're safe."

Jimmy nodded and said to Nia, "Put it away for now, we can sanitize and clean it later."

He let Nia leave to store the necklace, then turned to Roland, "These are safe, right? Who knows what your world's animals might have?"

Roland: "It's fine to clean them. They're just ordinary animals, only food."

Jimmy nodded, accepting they were just ordinary animals. Although wolves and bears aren't easy to deal with, for someone like Roland, they're no different than domesticated animals; the only difference is the taste might not be as good, and they might carry more bacteria.

Roland's physical resilience was indeed remarkable, Jimmy had to admit. Not long before, Roland had managed to recover from a leg wound in half the time it would take the average person. With modern medical advancements providing accurate assessments of recovery times, it was unprecedented to heal in such a short span.

Jimmy: "Did you find it? How did you manage to arrive precisely in the basement this time?"

Roland nodded without speaking; Nia had already returned with a coffee pot from the kitchen, asking, "Do you need sugar?"

Roland: "I'll do it myself, thank you."

Jimmy preferred unsweetened coffee, while Roland added two packets of sugar, considering the importance of replenishing his energy, even on Earth.

Nia gave Jimmy a knowing wink, inclining her head slightly towards Roland. Jimmy reluctantly said, "Roland, the last time you left, Nia happened to see from the stairs..."

Roland looked at Jimmy in shock and then turned to Nia, "You know?"

Nia: "Yes, it was accidental, I just saw you enter that door. Jimmy told me you're a protector from another world..."

Roland looked at Jimmy, frowning, "What did you tell her?"

Jimmy: "I told her you're a protector, not a mage, traveling between worlds to hunt demons and maintain safety. Nothing more."

Roland nodded and turned to Nia, "I'm a gunslinger, a protector of the Dark Tower. Nia, the world is not safe, please keep this secret for me."

Nia nodded. She had kept it secret since Jimmy asked her not to tell anyone, "So, our basement is your gateway between the worlds?"

Roland nodded, "We'll talk about it later, I need some time to think." He turned to Jimmy, "Is your house still available? I might need to stay there for a few days."

Jimmy: "Of course, I've kept it ready for you. I checked on it just a few days ago."

Roland nodded, standing up to leave. Jimmy packed Roland's clothes in a backpack before accompanying him out. Nia waved goodbye at the door.

As Jimmy started the car, Roland told him, "I found a portal; the two portals can be combined for point-to-point, safe traversing between the worlds. Do you want to come back with me, Jimmy?"

While driving, Jimmy replied, "Now is not the time. Nia is due to give birth in a little over a month, Roland, and I don't want to leave her, not even for a day."

Roland nodded, "All right, it's best to wait. But perhaps we need to prepare some supplies to take over. The portal there needs an energy source, and I'm not sure how much longer it will last."

Jimmy: "Does it use electricity like ours? I've examined the controller of the basement portal; it seems to be powered by electrical wiring, though I haven't taken down the wall."

Roland: "Don't tamper with this one. I can't fix it if there are issues. We use a generator over there, but I'm uncertain about the fuel, maybe I can try bringing some fuel from here."

Jimmy: "Whatever it is, if we can get it, we should try. But no matter what, I have to stay here for Nia..."
