Chapter 1441 - 777: Wrapping Up
Chapter 1441 - 777: Wrapping Up
Jimmy had already noted down the location of the small village. Now he could confirm that at least there were no traces of the Spider Monster inside the village houses, although there had been two here earlier. It was clear that they might have hidden elsewhere, perhaps even gathered in a single nest.
The cave space Jimmy discovered underground was large. If it had been created by several Spider Monsters, that would not be surprising at all. The only question now was how many Spider Monsters there were. Jimmy and Roland had already dealt with two, but it would be troublesome if there were more. It's important to know that this place is quite remote, and if they run out of food, they might migrate to other areas.
Given the size of the Spider Monsters, once they reach a place with many people, it would inevitably lead to the deaths of a significant number of people. Such supersized spiders are absolutely beyond the capabilities of ordinary people. Even someone like Roland had a leg pierced through. If it were an ordinary person, there's a very high probability they would be killed instantly, even if they could resist.
Roland also survived in the United States for over a decade, and his identity was not an issue. As long as he carried an ID or driver's license, he could visit a hospital normally. As for his leg injury, it was an accident where a metal rod pierced through, not a gunshot wound. This wouldn't trigger the hospital's standard procedure for reporting gunshot injuries to the police.
Regarding the difference between a puncture wound and a gunshot wound, there's nothing to worry about. For emergency doctors in hospitals, it's absolutely no problem to determine this type of injury.
Such a penetrating wound is not too much trouble for hospitals. However, to recover quickly, Roland would have to use a wheelchair for some time. For someone as tough as him, if it were an ordinary person, they would have been screaming in pain when injured. Yet, Roland persisted for two days, and if it weren't for Jimmy coming over, he probably would have waited until the wound didn't affect his movement much to set out to find Jimmy.
During the medical treatment and rest, Roland didn't express any opinions. Jimmy handled all the running and communication until he pushed Roland in a wheelchair to the hotel room to rest, exchanged goodnight wishes, and only then did they rest.
Roland actually wasn't very familiar with Jimmy. In fact, his initial acceptance of Jimmy was based somewhat on emotions from the original host. Jimmy had sought out Roland multiple times, and they had developed some camaraderie between them.
Afterward, when Roland returned to the Dark Tower world for retirement, he casually prepared a gift for Jimmy, which was somewhat of a safeguard for his disciple. Because of the Black Rainbow, he now had to persuade Jimmy to make a trip back with him. The complications of the situation were somewhat sigh-inducing.
There had been quite a few events today, and since he also needed to recuperate here for a while, they could only wait until everything settled down to discuss this matter further.
Returning to his room, Jimmy was also quite troubled. He turned on the tap to fill the bathtub, threw himself into the water to soak, and pondered over what Roland had said.
Jimmy already knew Roland came from the Dark Tower world. Although Roland hadn't said much about that world, it could be inferred from the few words he had spoken that it was definitely not as stable as Earth. At least, there would certainly be a plethora of monsters and demons, as well as resentful spirits. His attire also suggested that the place wasn't a modern society, and even if he went there, he wouldn't be accustomed to it.
Then there's the crucial point that traveling between the two worlds shouldn't be that easy. Otherwise, Roland wouldn't have taken so long to find him, nor would the entry points be so remote. Even if there were a door to travel between worlds, one that required a long time and had uncertain locations would be quite a hassle for him, especially since he had family and work here. Leaving for several months would definitely arouse attention.
Jimmy was an FBI agent, quite famous internally, a star agent under much scrutiny. Taking a vacation for a month or lying low for a year or two would not be a problem, but disappearing for several months would definitely draw a lot of attention. Moreover, facing a barrage of inquiries upon his return could be problematic. Lies are easy to tell, but believable lies are hard to craft.
No matter how intrigued he was by another world, it was impossible to completely disregard his life here. Roland had indeed been very good to him, but that wasn't enough to make him give up everything now just to experience the allure of another world.
After his bath, Jimmy lay on the bed, turned on the TV, and lowered the volume. He picked up the phone and called Nia for a casual chat, though somewhat absent-mindedly. After hanging up, he finally made the decision that he couldn't agree to Roland's request. He just needed to carefully consider the wording of how to communicate this.
The next day, Jimmy greeted Roland, asking him to wait at the hotel for his return. He drove back to the small village, and while passing a gas station, he also picked up a petrol can and some spare gasoline.
Roland clearly knew what Jimmy intended to do and simply nodded, telling him to be careful. With the abilities Jimmy had shown yesterday, the Spider Monster was no match for him, so there was no need for concern.
Last night, he had inspected several times to make sure there were no Spider Monsters in the village, but he couldn't rule out the possibility that they might be hiding somewhere, like in a wardrobe or other items. This was because external coverings might obscure the Spider Monsters' forms from appearing in the Heart Eye Vision.
