Chapter 1439 776: Leaving

Chapter 1439 776: Leaving

The topic of crossing worlds is really hard to connect with; Jimmy has family and friends here, and a job he likes. In other worlds, he would have nothing. Although it would be interesting to see other worlds, after all, it's crossing worlds; besides going back and forth, there's no way to contact family.

He is different from Roland. Roland is from the Dark Tower World; for him, returning to the Dark Tower World is going home. He's very familiar with the situation there and has lived on Earth for many years. You could say he's the person most familiar with both sides.

Of course, going to the Dark Tower World means you can come back, but the times Roland contacted Jimmy spanned long periods. Clearly, the door for traversing worlds isn't always available, and he left from New York but appeared in Maine; this portal is completely unstable.

Jimmy and Roland entered the warehouse, with Roland standing above. Jimmy held a flashlight in his mouth, entering the cave. The Heart Eye Vision had already been activated before, but he didn't discover any major issues until he went down and saw the already decayed Spider Monster in the cave.

The Spider Monster was too big, and he never imagined the shadow on the floor of the cave was a Spider Monster. He originally thought it was just the unevenness of the cave floor or something that had fallen, never thinking it was part of the Spider Monster's body, as large as an adult without limbs, even a bit wider.

Jimmy carefully inspected it with the flashlight. It had been dead for some time, and the Spider Monster had shrunk and decayed somewhat. The smell was unpleasant, but he could barely imagine how big it was when alive. Just thinking about such a huge spider was creepy and unsettling.

Jimmy shone the flashlight further inside, continuing to observe with Heart Eye Vision, walking deeper until he reached the end of the cave: a fairly large hollow. It was wider from side to side, nearly elliptical, with many web-wrapped objects on both sides. From their shape, it was unclear what they were.

He picked up a Dagger and cut one open, a stench rushing straight into his nose, almost making Jimmy vomit. Inside was a partially melted person. Jimmy immediately retreated a bit, stood in the middle of the cave looking around, and noted there were nearly twenty chrysalides. If they were like the one he opened, this must be the Spider Monster's lair and storage room.

The most common way spiders prey is entrapment, using lots of webs to bind prey, injecting them with poisonous digestive enzymes, and then waiting for the prey to dissolve before sucking it into their stomach. This is mainly because spiders don't have teeth for chewing food. Their fangs are used to kill prey and inject venom, not for chewing, so they can't tear and devour like other animals.

Although Jimmy doesn't clearly remember this fact, he vaguely recalls it, so these chrysalides are undoubtedly the Spider Monster's food reserve.

The smell was getting unbearable; Jimmy couldn't stand it and turned to leave the cave, climbing to the surface and returning to the warehouse, where Roland had drawn a handgun, standing guard in the warehouse. Seeing Jimmy climb up, he put the gun away, "How was it? Did you see it?"

Jimmy waved his hand, walking out while saying, "Let me catch my breath first; it was too smelly."

In fact, the smell in the underground cavity was initially okay, but after Jimmy cut open a tightly wrapped chrysalis, the near-sealed environment underground made it unbearable to stay.

After taking some fresh air, Jimmy said to Roland, "I found the location of those residents, deep inside a space that should be the Spider Monster's storage room. I think the people here must be inside."

Roland said expressionlessly, "So, what do you plan to do?"

Jimmy thought for a moment, sighing, "I can't do anything; they can't be saved, and I don't know how to handle this. No department can manage such things."

Kicking the grass underfoot, Jimmy continued, "Moreover, a mutated spider like this can't be reported to the government. It's definitely not a native Earth species. Although this sounds a bit harsh, humanity's ability to seek death is unlimited. If someone with an agenda finds out, they will undoubtedly cause a bigger biological disaster."

Luckily, there's only one of these things, and it seems like it will completely decompose over a bit more time. By then, even if someone discovers it, it won't be much of a problem."

Roland looked at Jimmy speechlessly. Is this the time to consider such things? Also, how do you know there's only one? He had killed another one in the Dark Tower World.

Roland: "Hmm, this is your world; you handle it as you see fit."

Jimmy checked his watch; though it was getting dark, Roland had an injured leg, so it was best to get to a hospital quickly, "Let's go; we need to get you treated at a hospital now. Do you have your ID or driver's license with you?"

Jimmy helped Roland back to the previous house. Many houses had lights on, but Jimmy could be sure no one was inside. It should have been when they were caught by the spider, it was just nighttime, and no one was there to turn them off.

Roland had few belongings. He only came with a backpack, and during the few days here, he found plenty of food reserves, so he didn't consume his own provisions. Now that Jimmy was here to pick him up, there was no need to bring them.
