Chapter 1416 - 764: Suspension and Fishing_2

New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. are the three largest FBI divisions. Like Dave, these two divisions are managed by higher-level personnel, and the corresponding field agents are more numerous. Jimmy was dispatched from headquarters to handle the yacht explosion case, so both he and Mark, who came to Los Angeles earlier, could receive support from the Los Angeles office, including access to information, vehicles, personnel, etc. However, if he wanted to handle the death cases occurring in Los Angeles, that would be overstepping his authority. Even if these two deaths are suspected to be non-natural, they should be handled by the LAPD or the personnel from the Los Angeles office.

Dave returned to his office, checked some information, and then glanced at the note on his desk before directly calling to book a ticket to Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Harriton's surgery went smoothly this time. Although she was no longer young, her health was still decent. Not long after leaving the ICU, she was transferred out of the hospital, as it wasn't a suitable place for her to stay long-term. It wasn't because she couldn't afford it, but because the place wasn't meant for someone like her. Being able to arrange an emergency surgery after the incident was already a display of money power at work.

The news of Jimmy killing the old man had not reached Mrs. Harriton because they weren't particularly close family members. In fact, Mr. Harriton was the one responsible for their external affairs, and all the connections were on his side. After Mr. Harriton died, Mrs. Harriton didn't fully inherit his network, but she quickly took over the Harriton family's businesses since these were things on the surface.

However, the evening she returned to Sunstone Manor, news came of the death of a Foundation shareholder. Even though it seemed on the surface to be caused by an electric wire leak beside the bathtub leading to electrocution during a bath, it appeared to be a complete accident, Mrs. Harriton did not believe it was an accident. Her bodyguard, although not a professional assassin, also formed the same judgment that this was not an accidental death. While he himself might not achieve such cleanliness, he believed someone certainly could.

Just as Jimmy speculated, Mrs. Harriton's team also leaned toward the idea that her car accident earlier was man-made. Now, just after her discharge, another company shareholder is dead. These incidents are definitely not isolated, but she still hasn't figured out exactly who's responsible.

Previously, she had hired two personal bodyguards on one hand due to Jimmy's advice and also due to her awareness of some of her husband's past dealings. It's impossible not to trust the professional speculation given by an FBI agent. After investigating some matters, she immediately realized that her situation was very dangerous. However, she did not have the advantage of time or control over the company. Therefore, she must ensure her safety while providing precise information to let the FBI get involved and warn others, at least to buy herself some time.

But there was a deviation in Mrs. Harriton's plan. She never expected someone would so eagerly want to surprise her by reuniting her with her husband. Moreover, judging by another shareholder's death, the other party seemed to want more than just her.

When Jimmy called her, she didn't dare tell him directly that she was back. She truly didn't know whom to trust now, even though, in every aspect, this FBI agent seemed credible. She still couldn't guarantee that news of her return wouldn't leak.

Detective Yang's investigation was extraordinarily aboveboard, so she could know where Jimmy was staying, and naturally, others could too. If he came to the manor to find her, he might bring the people who were surveilling as well. Now she couldn't take that risk.

After much consideration, Mrs. Harriton called her lawyer, asking him to arrange a few people to meet her at a hidden location since it was inconvenient for her to make phone calls herself.

The family lawyer, Sebastian Morley, was reliable to some extent. Even at night, Sebastian did as Mrs. Harriton requested, quickly notifying everyone. Then he changed clothes and left the apartment.

Crime in Los Angeles wasn't great but excluded several well-known wealthy areas. Those notified also went to a secluded club according to their agreement.

In a small conference room, Sebastian still used his laptop to connect to a projector and set up a video connection with Mrs. Harriton.

Mrs. Harriton weakly leaned against the bedhead, looking at the monitor ahead. Several cameras displayed angles of the people sitting at the conference table. "Everyone, I apologize for making you come over so late. I believe you all know about Pete's situation already. What are your thoughts?"

A middle-aged man looked at Mrs. Harriton with furrowed brows and asked, "We know about Pete, but Mrs. Harriton, were you hurt? What happened?"

For safety reasons, Mrs. Harriton kept her surgery a secret. Except for Jimmy, the agent she needed to stay in touch with, no one else was informed. She shook her head and said, "It was just a surgery in the hospital, nothing serious. What do you think about Pete's situation? What did the police say?"

The middle-aged man looked at the others, who turned their heads to him. Realizing he had to speak, he faced the camera on the table and said, "The police said it was accidental electrocution. They checked Pete's house and found no sign of intrusion or any other issues."

Mrs. Harriton's face turned grim, "Just an accident? In fact, just a few days ago, I barely survived a car accident; the brakes were tampered with."

A stir spread among the people, whispers exchanged, all with unpleasant expressions. The middle-aged man asked in surprise, "You went to the hospital because of the car accident?"

Mrs. Harriton nodded, "So do you still think Pete's death was an accident? I suspect someone has started taking action. It's my husband and his partners first, then Pete... you all need to be cautious."

The middle-aged man mused for a moment, then said, "That FBI agent is still investigating Mr. Harriton's case. Should we ask him to look into this?"

Mrs. Harriton: "No, the police have already concluded it, so let's not focus on Pete's death anymore. I want everyone to stay safe, as I believe the mastermind won't stop at Pete."

Seeing everyone nod, she continued, "Alright, let's talk about your respective business responsibilities. I think we should avoid gathering as much as possible recently. Additionally, pause any external business and other non-essential matters. I think we need to deal with urgent internal affairs first."

The middle-aged man looked surprised at Mrs. Harriton, "Including the election campaign?"

Mrs. Harriton: "Yes, suspend external affairs. I think things internally will be even more troublesome. Let's begin, everyone."

The emergency meeting was about to end quickly, allowing Mrs. Harriton to observe everyone present. Once everyone concluded their reports, Mrs. Harriton had the bodyguard turn off the video. Then she asked, "Did you find anything? Among them?"

The bodyguard shook his head, "Sorry, I have no ideas, I can't discern among them."

Mrs. Harriton waved him away, resting against the bedhead, recalling what she had seen earlier. Now she couldn't ensure if there was a traitor among those present, but she had already revealed via video that she was in her room, believing they could deduce she was at the manor. Hopefully, this time would yield some results.
