Chapter 1417 - 765: Dave Arrives in Person

Mrs. Harriton used her position as bait, and now the only people who know her whereabouts are the bodyguards, the servants, the lawyers, and a few others. She believed that if something unexpected happened, it must be one of these people at fault, thus narrowing down the scope of the investigation.

However, even though she used herself as bait, she didn't want to become the bait that got devoured. So, after some consideration, she called the bodyguards outside, asking them to prepare a room. She needed to temporarily leave and hide away from the bedroom, leaving a decoy in bed wasn't difficult.

A single bodyguard couldn't move Mrs. Harriton to another room alone, so he had to wake up someone who was off-duty to help.

Among the three personal bodyguards in the building, one would take turns resting. Since Harriton had just returned today, only one was left temporarily while the other two were resting to take over for the latter part of the night.

Of course, given Mrs. Harriton's resources, it was impossible for her to have only these three bodyguards. However, the others were responsible for the manor's security, while these three were truly assigned as personal bodyguards inside.

The whole moving process was carried out by the bodyguards. The servants had been arranged to rest downstairs in advance, to minimize the possibility of Mrs. Harriton's location being known.

Not everyone at the meeting was a shareholder of the Foundation. In actuality, it was only a part of the Harriton family's controllable personnel, and not all of them were part of the Foundation; a few were responsible for other companies' operations.

Previously, these people were liaised by Mr. Harriton. Although Mrs. Harriton knew them, there wasn't much interaction between them. After Harriton's death, she reached out on her own to reconnect with them. Hence, she couldn't confirm who among those present might be a traitor. The plan to use herself as bait was temporarily made, and thoroughly solving the threat she faced might be even trickier.

Bradley Lester, the second-largest shareholder of the Harriton Foundation, head of the Foundation's securities company, wielded significant power within the Foundation. Many key figures in management roles were aligned with him, but he had never managed to take full control of the Foundation. Most operations were completed under Harriton's direction. Yet, he hadn't been notified by Mrs. Harriton to attend the meeting and didn't partake in the evening's video conference. Still, he quickly learned of the meeting's content the next morning.

Mrs. Harriton's suspicion was indeed correct. Among those supposed insiders at the meeting, someone had fully considered the situation and opted to switch lanes.

For the deceased Pete, the minor shareholder, Lester was aware of it, though he was certain it wasn't his doing. When Jimmy visited, he already had some unpleasant suspicions. After all, there was another key figure by the late Harriton's side, the Foundation's head of human resources, Lucas McKinley. This man was like Harriton's lapdog; many of Lester's people had been blocked by him, yet he remained untouchable for years due to his closeness to Harriton.

Taking down both Harriton and McKinley at once dealt a significant blow to the Foundation. Although it wasn't clear if the culprit had intentionally waited for them to be together to strike, the demise of these two undeniably created a massive power vacuum within the Foundation. Following brief chaos, Lester promptly arranged for his people to make internal adjustments, temporarily taking over the position of head of human resources.

However, their actions were a bit slow. Mrs. Harriton, who had been away from management for a long time, suddenly returned, using her status to succeed the late Harriton as Chairman of the Foundation. Although she hadn't made any moves, the Foundation had returned to normal order, but the undercurrents stirred by the previous upheaval hadn't ceased.

Lester's shares weren't much less than Mrs. Harriton's. Since he had already begun making personnel adjustments, it wasn't possible to just stop. Pete, the minor shareholder, was someone Lester had previously contacted, but before they could make a move, Pete suddenly died, supposedly by accidental electrocution. He couldn't believe it.

Mrs. Harriton had been missing for several days. He had tried to contact and search through others, but to no avail. Last night, Mrs. Harriton returned to her manor, and surprisingly, she had just undergone surgery.

According to Mrs. Harriton, she had experienced a car accident earlier. What exactly happened?

It had been many days since Harriton's demise. If it was just to kill Mrs. Harriton, there was no need to wait this long. The only possible reason was that after Mrs. Harriton returned to succeed Harriton's position, someone wanted to kill her, not because she was Harriton's wife, but because she occupied that position and perhaps did something else unknown.

After envisioning a grand drama, Lester decisively attributed Pete's death to Mrs. Harriton, believing she had arranged someone to eliminate Pete before returning from the hospital. Was she implying her previous car accident was orchestrated by Pete?

Pete hadn't reached a conclusive agreement with him, it was unlikely he would act against Mrs. Harriton beforehand. Pete wasn't that audacious. Why then did Mrs. Harriton believe it was Pete?
