Chapter 1353 - 733: Blocked at the Door
The chaos in Juarez had lasted for most of the night, and it's still unclear how many people were alarmed by it. But just around the hospital where Jimmy and his team were, there were at least two shootouts. For professionals like Jimmy and his team, the sound of gunfire through the window at night generally wakes them up. What's more, Jimmy has enough spiritual power that even the slightest disturbance wakes him.
Fortunately, the two instances of gunfire happened a little further away, not at the hospital itself. Jimmy took advantage of waking up to also check the surroundings, making sure no one was climbing up to take a few shots at them.
Jimmy went back to sleep peacefully, but Alejandro couldn't. Hunter had just sent him two messages, suspecting someone had acted again. A base belonging to Carlos Escobar that he had just gotten details about from Hunter was attacked. Including Carlos, all twenty-one people were killed at the site and around it. A preliminary assessment suggests it was the work of one person. They are still fighting over territory, and more information isn't available yet.
When Jimmy returned at night, his clothes were covered in dust, which was normal. Everyone knew he was out tracing clues, so it was inevitable that he'd have to hide, getting dirt or other substances on him, as they all experienced. But now seeing the message content—this guy sure made quite a stir tonight, with another twenty-one. There's only the wrong name but not the wrong alias.
The issue is, what is he supposed to do now? He had Hunter investigate Carlos' information, partly to do Jimmy a favor, and also because this person was indeed one of the leads connecting him to the Sinaloa Group. If Jimmy was merely investigating the kidnapping case, theoretically there shouldn't be such a large-scale massacre. If it was just to cause some trouble, he might still have a chance to contact Carlos, perhaps even plead with Jimmy on his behalf. But why did it turn out like this?
Alejandro placed his phone beside the pillow, just lying there looking at the ceiling. His mouth involuntarily twitched from time to time. Too many unexpected things happened. He originally planned to use the name of a butcher to intimidate some people during the time Jimmy was set to leave. But now, it seems he overdid it.
When he told Hunter that it was the butcher alone who handled Victoria's factory and villa, he did not expect Jimmy to do something similar again. One case serves as a significant warning to others. But doing it again in a couple of days represents losing control. These gang members aren't easy targets one can just squeeze. When threats against them become a reality, what they might do becomes utterly unpredictable.
He knew Hunter must have some connections with the gangs and drug dealers here to stay for a decade or more. Just by revealing this lead, he could definitely spread the word quickly. Even if the butcher's name could easily link to Jimmy's identity, it didn't matter. After all, he's CIA, and Jimmy is FBI. He doesn't have to worry about Jimmy's future matters. But if the gangs go out of control now, and they intend to make a big move, it would be difficult for him to shake off suspicion.
As for Hunter, his intelligence trading does indeed have some issues. After all, he is still an undercover agent, officially part of the CIA. But it's undeniable that controlling these longtime undercover agents is indeed insufficient. As long as they still work for their side, people could turn a blind eye to some aspects.
Among the four people who came this time, Jimmy was the most obvious target—Chinese, FBI, alias Butcher. Their information can't be hidden at all; it must have already reached the gangs. This hospital was already unsafe. Fortunately, by tomorrow morning, they could leave Juarez, which was a slight relief.
Alejandro was genuinely worried that Jimmy might suddenly discover his little maneuvers. Once everyone left, no matter what happened, it could be explained. But now, it's really hard to explain why the gangs know his information.
Early the next morning, after getting up, they immediately began packing their things. The police station had already informed in advance that the SRT team would be returning with them today. But they weren't at this hospital and needed to wait for them to arrive before departing together.
In no time, the panda vehicle drove in through the entrance. The others remained in the car without getting out, except for the only uninjured team member, who came upstairs to find Jimmy and the rest. The group carried their luggage downstairs and went to the car.
Jimmy had already placed all the goods from the two large bags into the parking lot sewer during the night without being seen. Let them rot and disintegrate in the sewer rather than risk returning to the United States and getting caught by customs. He couldn't figure out how to handle them these past few days. Juarez was quite far from the ocean, and destroying those items would be too cumbersome.
Now, they drove away with the panda car trailing at the end. Just after exiting the hospital gate, Jimmy suddenly slammed on the brakes. Alejandro and the panda car behind them also braked and came to a stop.
"Be careful."
Jimmy drew his Glock, resting it on his leg on alert as the road ahead was blocked by two cars parked diagonally. People nearby were keeping their distance.
