New World with Four Husbands

Chapter 423: Jobs?

Chapter 423: Jobs?

"Of course!" Coco exclaimed, her eyebrows furrowing in annoyance. "Who wouldn’t be? Am I not supposed to be the only one who needs to work? What’s the use of me being a hunter if all of you have to work, too?"

Quizen’s confidence crumbled right then and there, his face growing warm at the words he had just heard.

"Well, we wanted to work to help you.." Quizen mumbled, his eyes snapping towards Zaque to silently ask for help, but the red haired mediator looked the same as him.

"You’re already helping me enough by waiting for me at home.* Coco sighed deeply. "Don’t get me wrong, okay? I really appreciate the thought of you wanting to work, but what if you get hurt?"

"Why would they get hurt?" Alhai spoke up, snapping slightly because he didn’t like that Coco is restricting them from doing what his friends wanted to do.

"All of you are beautiful! Who knows who is out there that would make a move on all of you!" Coco huffed out, uncrossing his arms and slamming her hands on the table, making Heiren flick beside him.

Like clockwork, Alhai’s and Heiren’s faces became as warm as Zaque’s red hair.

"You.. You think I’m beautiful?" Heiren asked, his voice quiet and timid which sounded more like a squeak. "Even if I’m like this?"

Out of the four husbands, Heiren leans more towards a baby face instead of angled one— it was one of his insecurities regarding his appearance because women and men like Coco would rather go for the likes of Zaque’s, Alhai’s, and Quizen’s.

"Yes? You’re cute and you can cook delicious food." Coco answered bluntly, like it was the most common thing in the world. "Why wouldn’t you be beautiful anyway? Sure, you’re cuter than these guys, but you’re beautiful, too."

Heiren’s face got warmer, the continuous revelation of what Coco thought about his appearance making his heart race.

"Now, what about you, Zaque?" Coco asked and whirled her head to Zaque’s direction, raising an eyebrow. "Did you get scouted or did you apply?"

"I applied.." Zaque answered, looking away.

They merely wanted to show Coco that they are being independent— that if she saw them working, she wouldn’t think of divorcing them, but seeing that she was this worried about them getting jobs..

Zaque couldn’t help, but feel honored.

This means that Coco likes me.. Right? At least she likes me enough to worry about me..? The red haired mediator thought, his face getting warmer at the thought of Coco worrying about him and having the possibility that she might like him how he likes her.

"Where did you apply?" Coco blinked owlishly, her eyes staring blankly at Zaque.

"The bakery near our house." He answered, keeping his gaze down in his hands, fiddling with his fingers to shake off the feeling of Coco’s stare on him.

"Oh.. You’ll be one of their bakers?" Coco relaxed a little, relieved that Zaque wouldn’t work in a dangerous place unlike Quizen. "That’s great news, Zaque. I’m very happy for you."

Zaque’s lips twitched into a smile as he lifted his gaze to meet Coco’s. "Thank you."

Coco nodded and looked away from him, her eyes landing on Heiren, then switched to Alhai, her eyebrows shooting up to her hairline. "How about you two? Did you two apply or got scouted?"

"I applied for the library a little ahead of the city square." Alhai was the first one to answer, averting his gaze from Coco.

Once again, Coco felt relieved upon hearing the news. "Did they accept you?"

Alhai nodded his head, keeping his gaze all over the place except for the person before him, the familiar feeling of butterflies in his stomach fluttering making him nervous.

"They asked a couple of questions about the books I’ve read and apparently, that was enough for them to hire me." Alhai answered, trying his utmost best to get rid of the warm feeling that settled on his stomach and chest.

"That’s lovely to hear." Coco said, then she turned to Heiren. "Are you going to work, too?"

Heiren was quick to shake his head, his eyes landing on the waitress— that took their orders earlier— walking towards towards their table with a tray in hand.

"I want to stay at home and cook for all of you for now, but I can look for a job if you want to—" He started and turned back to Coco, only for his breath to hitch and words to die on his tongue when he saw that Coco was too close to him.

"Really?" Coco’s face was bright with smile, the relief evident in her expression.

"Re.. Really." Heiren answered, stammering as he did so.

"So that only leaves Quizen with a dangerous work place." Coco said, snapping her head to the fourth husband’s direction. "Can you pull out? I’ll try to ask the guild master if he can hire you instead."

Quizen frowned. "But I want to work in the bar.."

Coco decided to not push it and just nodded her head. "Okay.. There was a pub in the guild that hunters often go to after their hunts, but if you don’t want to, then I won’t force you."

Just in time, the waitress announced her presence by clearing her throat.

"Here’s your order, sirs!"

Apparently, Coco is just a wind because the waitress kept flashing the four mediators around her a teasing smile with a certain look in her eyes.

"Thanks." Heiren expressed his gratitude and smiled politely.

The woman on the receiving end giggled and quickly finished placing down the plateful of delicious treats that the husbands chose— something that Coco would definitely enjoy.

Coco ignored them with the best of her abilities and reached forward to take a donut from the small pile in front of her.

There was an ugly feeling inside her and she doesn’t know what it is, but since there’s food in front of her, she will just eat the feeling away.
