New World with Four Husbands

Chapter 413: On their own ways

Chapter 413: On their own ways

"I’ve got a couple of baking books that I stumbled upon when I went inside of the bookstore earlier." Zaque stated as he and Heiren walked back to the house.

"That’s nice." The second husband hummed and shifted the basket he was carrying on his other hand. "I’m trying to not let the paper spill from these apples.. Can’t I just put this inside of my pants?"

Heiren looked down at the basket, his eyebrows furrowing in frustration as he tightened his grip on the basket’s handle.

"We’re literally walking beside a busy street.. And you’re asking me that..?" Zaque mumbled, grabbing the basket off Heiren’s hand and snatching the paper inside. "Whatever, do what you want."

Zaque handed the folded paper to Heiren and the brown haired mediator quickly took it from him.

Heiren, however, instead of putting the paper inside of his pants as he stated earlier, had decided to just slip the paper inside of his shirt where a secret pocket was stitched on the fabric.

Zaque saw this and frowned. "Seriously?"

"What?" Heiren shot back, a small sly smile emerging in his lips as he tugged his shirt back in place.

"What’s the point of your sentence earlier if you’re just going to put it somewhere else then?" Zaque asked, his lips forming a line as they pursed.

"A source of second hand embarrassment." Heiren said, shrugging his shoulders.

"Well, it worked." Zaque stated with a sigh. "You’re so lucky that we’re getting close anyway, or else I would have left you here all by yourself."

Heiren hummed a playful tune, a sound that he had heard from Quizen a few days back which has now struck a nerve in his brain and caused him to remember it every now and then.

As the two mediators walked closer to the house, they spotted Quizen a couple of meters in front of them.

Heiren and Zaque left the house to go to the church today, but the priest left at the altar told them that no bishop was present in the church at the moment due to the wedding of a high ranking noble somewhere in the north.

So, instead of lamenting on the fact that their plan was put on hold, the two of them decided to shop for a while.

Coincidentally, Quizen left before them in a hurry and said something about him looking for an opportunity to be hired somewhere.

So seeing the fourth husband making his way back home was quite surprising.

"Quizen!" Heiren called out, his voice loud and clear, booming across the street and catching the attention of passersby.

Once again, Zaque turned his head away from Heiren and covered his face.

He doesn’t like attention, but he knew that their little family would garner attention sooner or later due to Coco’s reputation and amazing capabilities.

However, receiving looks because of his friend is another topic.

The blue haired mediator stopped walking and whirled his body around, his head twisting and eyes scanning his surroundings before his gaze landed on the two mediators who approached him quite quickly.

"Heiren." Quizen blinked and raised an eyebrow when he looked at the first husband. "And Zaque? What happened to you?"

"Leave him be." Heiren mused and grabbed Quizen’s wrist. "Come on! I have a new recipe that I would like to try and we must prepare it before Coco gets back from the guild or else she would be waiting for food again!"

Of course, no one wanted Coco to wait for food so all of them started jogging despite feeling different emotions at the same time.

Ever since Coco started living with them, they had grown attached to her in one way or another— making the three of them care for her in their own ways without calling the others out.

Quizen had learned that Coco loved music because he would often catch her taking a peek in the music room whenever he strums his guitar.

So whenever he gets the chance, he leaves the door open and lets Coco listen to his music.

Zaque, on the other hand, had learned that Coco loves both salty and sweet snacks so he made it his mission to bake something either of the two everyday.

He had gone as far as making the chocolate spread everyday that Coco seemed to be obsessed with just so he could pack her several chocolate sandwiches whenever she needed to go out and be on her way.

Heiren, too, learned that Coco loves different kinds of dishes, but she would lean more towards anything that is spicy.

He had made something in an accident and dropped a few cuts of chilis on the pot which he became panic-stricken for because he didn’t know if Coco could handle spice, but when Coco tasted it, she smiled so hard that she almost took his breath away.

It was the little thing that matters that most and the three of them knew of this.

Which is why, if Coco showed interest in something, but refused to become vocal about it— they’ll make it their mission to make sure that she would get it.

So.. Why is Coco’s face beet red with crumbled macaroons on her hand?

"Coco?" Zaque called out, dropping the basket on the floor and rushed towards the frozen woman, her lips parted and face blank.

"Where’s Alhai?" Heiren questioned.

Ring, ring, ring, ring!

The three of them turned their attention to the fairy who suddenly started letting out the familiar ringing noises as he flew towards Heiren.

She wrapped her fingers on a few strands of his hair and started tugging him outside of the kitchen.

"What? What’s wrong?" Heiren asked, his eyebrows furrowing in worry and confusion, but he followed wherever the fairy dragged him to.

Ring, ring, ring, ring!

Lala kept speaking, but it made no sense for him.

Well, that is before he pushed open the door to the first floor’s bathroom and saw Alhai on the floor.. Bleeding.
