Chapter 378: Breakfast with the team
Chapter 378: Breakfast with the team
"How was the girl?" Myra asked Coco upon seeing her walk through the front doors of the guild.
Coco’s heart dropped to her stomach and a scream tried to jump out of her throat from the sudden appearance of Myra, her face lightly losing color at the sight of the woman.
"You scared her." Lukas commented, placing both of his hands on Coco’s shoulders to steady her.
"But the woman is fine." Lukas answered Myra’s question as Coco caught her breath, her eyes still wide in shock and quickly placed a hand on her chest.
"Ye.. Yeah." Coco mumbled, agreeing with the sacred beast’s sentence with a nod. "Damn it, Myra. You really scared me there.. Please, don’t dare do that again, okay? I don’t like being ambushed right by the door."
Myra raised an eyebrow at Coco, finding her reaction slightly amusing, but she nodded her head. "Sorry, it won’t happen again."
Coco let out a sigh, her heart relaxing from its anxious beating. "Thanks—"
"Probably." Myra quickly added, making Coco snap her head towards the woman who was now smirking quite smugly towards her.
"Myra!" Coco hissed, half whining and half scolding her. "I mean it, alright? I hate getting jumped."
"Okay, okay, fine." Myra said, raising both of her hands in the air in a surrendering manner, but the smirk remained. "Anyway, what’s the news about the woman? Is she good? Was she exposed to the monsters? Did she get hurt by one?"
"She’s fine." Lukas repeated what he said earlier with a cocky grin. "But I’m sure my leader isn’t."
"That much is obvious." Coco grumbled, her eyes squinting into a glare as she shot a glare at the two smirking individuals who seemingly found her fright amusing.
"We saved two seats for you two." Myra said, changing the topic and informing the two of them of what the group did. "Yura and Julian asked for everything available on the menu this morning so we have a lot to eat."
"Nice! That means I can eat how much I want." Lukas exclaimed quite loudly, catching the attention of the other hunters standing nearby.
"And who’s paying?" Coco asked, raising an eyebrow.
She took the examination because she wanted to earn money by hunting monsters and selling them in the main city— the only reason why she hasn’t spent any coins for herself since she got here.
If she has to pay for her meal right now, she would rather go home and eat whatever breakfast Heiren cooked.
"The guild master." Myra answered Coco’s question with a shrug. "He thought we did an incredible job cleaning up the mess so he’s going to pay for everything we will eat today."
"Ah." Coco blinked and nodded her head in understanding. "I see.. I’ll stay for breakfast, but I’ll go home after that."
"Hmm.. That’s upsetting, but I guess it can’t be helped." Myra said, humming the words halfheartedly as she turned in her heels. "Let’s go. I’m sure the two of you are starving."
"Starving? That’s one way to put it, but I’m sure I’ll inhale whatever meat they have in no time!" Lukas said, which was soon by an obnoxious laugh that attracted the attention of those around them.
"That’s not something you should be proud of." Coco commented, walking side by side with Lukas.
"Ooh.. Everyone is staring so hard!" The garden fairy giggled, informing Coco of what she could see on top of her head. "I’m sure they heard how strong you were back there! Look at them staring at you!"
Now that Lala mentioned the stares, Coco could feel the heated gaze of those who they pass by.
Their stares felt off against her skin— it makes her want to crawl on a hole and never come out due to how judgemental and scrutinizing it felt.
"Why are these humans staring so hard?" Lukas asked, snapping Coco out of her inner turmoil.
She blinked, cranking her head to the side to look at Lukas, who was eyeing the people around them who shot them a look, a puzzled expression settling on his face.
"Ignore them." Myra said as she led them inside of the guild’s cafeteria.
"What’s up with them anyway?" Lukas, in fact, didn’t care and just continued to prod, even leaning towards Myra and poking her in the shoulder. "Are we the topic of gossip like how my leader became the topic?"
"It’s not like I wanted to be a topic." Coco rebutted, her eyebrows furrowing in a feign offended frown.
Myra didn’t answer Lukas’ question and just led them across the cafeteria. However, instead of sitting somewhere in the room— Myra continued walking until they were in front of the guild master’s dining room.
"Wait, why are we going here?" Lukas asked again, his eyebrows pinching together in confusion.
Once again, Myra didn’t answer his question and opted to open the door to let the sight answer his question; upon seeing what was waiting inside, Lukas’ eyes went wide and became bright with happiness.
"Yo!" The sacred beast howled, pushing past Coco and Myra as he rushed inside. "That’s a feast right there!"
Coco blinked, walking inside in a calm manner and kept her eyes glued to the mountain of food waiting by table with the others already sitting.
"Welcome back!" Yura greeted them, smiling softly.
"I hope you don’t mind me eating with all of you." The guild master said, nodding his head in greeting towards Coco’s way.
"Sure.." Coco mumbled, trudging her way over to Yura’s side and sat down on the vacant seat beside her.
"I have some questions, but for now, let’s have a feast." Mr. Covez said, sending a smile— as stiff as a cardboard box— to the people around the table. "Please, consider this as a token of gratitude."
Lukas was the first one to lunge towards the main dish, a grilled pork, and ate it without much thought, which sent some crumbs flying.
"Lukas! Mind your manners!" Yura screeched, making almost everyone agree.
