Chapter 377: The so-called beast
Chapter 377: The so-called beast
Lukas’ body tensed under Coco’s observing gaze, every single hair on his skin spiking up and telling him to run away from the woman in front of him.
How did she find out?
Lukas wondered, his dormant canines slowly enlarging, itching to tear Coco to pieces.
However, as much as he wanted to do just that, he knows that the woman before him is not someone he should mess with— there was something about her that would make her a dangerous threat if he were ever to try to make her his enemy.
Her strength, her endurance, her agility, and her ability to adapt and guide everyone through an unexpected situation tells him a lot.
He swallowed thickly, the cocky grin and the teasing glint in his eyes vanishing.
Should he lie and tell her that he has no idea what she was talking about so she wouldn’t prod further? Should he just change the topic into something else to make her forget about the question she had just asked?
"Don’t dare lie, Lukas." Cocos said, the tone of her voice telling him that she was giving him a warning.
So that means I really can’t lie. Lukas thought bitterly, his hands curling into fists— Coco’s eyes darted to his knuckles for a split second and forced her gaze back to his face, making him grow more anxious.
"I am." The sacred beast confirmed, frowning.
Coco’s hardener expression stayed for a moment, then her face softened. "I see.. Thank you for being honest. I would have forced the truth out of you if you lied."
She knows what I am.. But how? Lukas didn’t let the question linger in his mind for too long, before he knew it, his words were already spilling out of his mouth without filter, his expression crestfallen.
"How did you know? I was so sure that I was hiding it very well.. Not many people know about my kind.." Lukas mumbled, his fists uncurling themselves.
Ding!
Ding!
Ding!
Three ringing bells echoed in Coco’s mind, indicating that she had either have new quest or finished a quest, as she stared at Lukas, the strange sight of a sad expression settling on his face tugging on her heart strings.
"You can think of me as the rare ones." Coco said, tilting her head and smiling at the sacred beast. "But you do know that you were at fault for the unexpected appearance of spawn stones earlier, right?"
Lukas flinched, telling Coco everything she needed to know.
"Thought so." Coco hummed, shifting in her seat and changing her position into a more comfortable one. "Don’t worry, it will give us extra points because of it."
Lukas brightened up every so slightly, a hopeful look in his eyes. "You’re not here to drag me back to the cave?"
"Cave?" Coco repeated, raising an eyebrow. "You just woke up, right? Why would I? I’m sure you’re not here to cause any trouble."
"Yeah, yeah— I was here to look for my mate!" Lukas agreed to Coco’s assurance, his posture relaxing.
Ding!
Another sound echoed in the back of Coco’s head, alerting her that she had finished one of the quests she had or she probably has another one.
"You woke up just to find a mate?" Coco asked, her hold on the unconscious woman tightening slightly.
"Yeah.. I sensed a change in the mana wavelengths somewhere in Archensheen City." Lukas stated, answering Coco’s question with a sincere expression.
"I just know that my mate is somewhere around that area, but I can’t go there unless I’m a hunter so I entered the next license examination as soon as possible." He added to his previous sentence, scratching the back of his head.
"How did you manage to enter the city? You don’t have any identity because you have just woken up." Coco questioned, finding Lukas’ story a little lacking.
"You know Alithe Astin II, right?" Lukas returned the question, smiling.
Coco blinked, nodding her head slowly as she answered his question, not sure where the conversation was going, but she felt like she was about to learn something huge.
"His father knew about my existence and had my awakening written in his journals— at least that was what the kid told me, then he fetched me in an orphanage in Yolo Village." Lukas said, shrugging his shoulders.
"When I woke up, I was confused so I wandered around." He hummed, a faraway look crossing his eyes as if he was reminiscing. "I ended up in that village.. In that orphanage."
"But Alithe told me to avoid you." Coco mumbled, eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
"That’s probably because I’m a beast— which I’m assuming that you know what he is as well because you know what I am?" Lukas raised an eyebrow, focusing his attention on Coco once again.
"Of course." Coco nodded her head, sighing. "His husband is connected to me so I had no choice, but to know."
Lukas’ lips curled into a small smile. "The raven found a good master then.. And a good mate.. I heard that he was a defective bird among their kind."
"That’s not a nice word to use." Coco narrowed her eyes, glaring at Lukas.
"Right, do forgive me." Lukas sighed.
"Anyway, are you going to leave the city to go to whenever you need to go after passing?" Coco asked, changing the subject to avoid making things awkward for the two of them.
"Yeah, that’s what I planned." Lukas nodded his head, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms. "Archensheen has been my goal all along so you don’t have to worry about me causing trouble in the main city."
"I wasn’t worried." Coco stated and shot down the idea of her being concerned quite bluntly. "But I was a little upset at the fact that your awakening caused a ripple in this world."
Lukas’ gaze shot up, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion. "What do you mean by ’this world’?"
Just like that, Coco felt her throat clogged up.
