Chapter 375: Aftermath of the battle
Chapter 375: Aftermath of the battle
"I sent a signal to the guild master’s office." Greinzer said, alerting the group of what he did.
"What does that mean?" Zuyo asked, perking up from his spot on the ground, his arms and legs sprawled out in all directions, laying on the dirt without a care.
"It means we’re finally done here, idiot." Myra grumbled from her own spot on the ground, in the same position as Zuyo.
Coco listened to what they were saying first before she stood up, grunting as she did so, and approached their spot. "All of you did a job, everyone."
Myra and Julian turned their heads to look at Coco, then Yura smiled, tired, but delighted. "You did, too."
"Yeah, you were amazing." Julian agreed, nodding his head.
"I did great, too!" Lukas exclaimed, shuffling his way towards Coco’s side, a grin plastered on his face. "I was punching monsters left and right, didn’t you see?"
"I’m hungry." Myra groaned out, ignoring Lukas’ question. "Are we allowed to eat in the guild after this?"
Greinzer was quiet for a moment, his red eyes scanning the group’s state, before he nodded his head and turned away. "I’ll see to it that you would be able to.. All of you did well with the prevention of the monsters swarming the forest after all."
Coco looked away from the group as guilt started to eat at her conscience.
I feel bad.. I used them to help me with my quest. Coco thought, biting the inside of her cheek with her eyes landing on the quest scroll that was hovering before her.
[.. Receiving rewards, please wait a moment...]
She managed to finish the quest earlier than expected because they agreed to follow her order, not even bothering to question her and just proceeded to blindly help her with whatever she needed help with.
"Does this mean that the monsters we killed today will be counted for the third examination, too?" Yura questioned, snapping Coco out of her inner turmoil.
Coco blinked and looked at Yura, who was staring at Greinzer with a hopeful look in her eyes.
"Yes." Greinzer confirmed, nodding his head. "You still killed monsters and worked as a team.. That’s enough to pass the examination."
Thv hunter paused, his eyes shifting between the two chosen leaders of their teams. "On top of that, Coco and Myra worked together as leaders even though both of their members were overwhelmed with the presence of monsters."
"So we passed?" Myra asked, her voice flat and detached as she raised an eyebrow.
"If it’s not obvious, then no." Greinzer said, shooting the woman a deadpan look before he walked away from the six of them, tired of their antics.
"Wha— hey! I was joking!" Myra pushed herself up with her elbows and screamed after Greinzer.
She turned to Coco, eyebrows furrowed in worry as she sat up, crossing her legs under her. "Do you think he’s serious with what he said?"
No. Coco answered the question in her mind.
"Yes." However, something else came out of her mouth, the corner of her lips curling up into a smile, playful and triumphant.
"Oh, no." Myra mumbled, her lips parting in disbelief and fear, the color of her face draining. "You think so?"
Before Coco could answer Myra’s inquiry, several noises of neigh echoed in the air and successfully stopped Coco from responding, her head snapping towards the direction where the sounds came from.
"Everyone, get up." Greinzer called out, making the six of them stand up from their spots on the dirty ground.
"They’re already here?!" Zuyo asked, brightening and springing on his feet as he sprinted towards the hunter standing by the opposite path they used to get to the area.
Coco stood up from her spot and sighed heavily, turning to the tree line to look for the unconscious woman she saw.
Discreetly, she separated herself from the group and walked over to the spot where she left the woman— still unconscious and pale, but she wasn’t showing any sign of possibly knocking at death’s door.
She left Lala by the woman’s spot to guard over her and it seems like it was a good decision because she was beaming at her in the distance.
"You did good, Coco!" The garden fairy praised Coco as soon as she walked over.
"You did good guarding her, too." Coco returned the praise and giggled quietly to herself, crouching down in front of the woman to meet Lala halfway.
"I didn’t do much.. But thank you!" The garden fairy expressed her gratitude, grinning.
"Anyway, how is she?" Coco asked, changing the subject and turning her attention to the woman. "Did she wake up while we were fighting?"
"No, but she was calling out someone’s name." Lala said, peering down to the woman with a frown.
"Maybe it was a family?" Coco guessed, tilting her head. "Either way, it was a good sign because that means she still has someone, right? Hopefully, at least."
"Probably." Lala then turned to Coco. "The spawn stones might have affected her when they first emerged from the ground so it will take a while before she could wake up."
Coco nodded her head in understanding. "I see.. Well, I’ll just have her sent to the city’s hospital— if they have one."
With that said, Coco hooked her arms behind the woman’s knees and back before she pulled her off the ground, carrying her bridal style.
She leaned the woman’s head against her shoulder and with her free hand, she picked up her bag off the ground, then slung it over her head before she finally stood up from her crouching position.
"Let’s go back." Coco said to the fairy, turning in her heels.
However, she was quick to halt in her tracks when she was met with the sight of the guild master crossing his arms and inspecting the spawn stones.
"Oh, shit.." Coco mumbled, frowning.
They probably don’t know about it, do they? Coco thought, a weary expression settling on her face.
