Never Just Friends

Reuniting with Finn

Reuniting with Finn

On Thursday evening, Hanna took a deep breath and texted Finn, asking him to meet her by the lake. She hadn’t been to their favorite spot since everything had exploded, and as she arrived, memories of all their conversations, laughter, and quiet moments together flooded back. She stood by the water’s edge, the reflection of the stars rippling gently across the surface, a mirror of her own scattered thoughts.

She heard footsteps crunching on the gravel behind her, and when she turned, there was Finn, his familiar, steady presence instantly calming her racing heart. They shared a small smile, the tension of the week hanging between them.

“Hey,” he said softly, joining her by the edge of the lake.

“Hey,” she replied, her voice barely a whisper. For a moment, they stood in silence, each lost in thought, before Hanna finally spoke up, her voice thick with emotion. “I’m so sorry for… all of this. I didn’t want any of it to happen this way.”

Finn shook his head, his gaze tender as he looked at her. “None of this is your fault, Hanna. People made their choices to believe what they wanted to. It has nothing to do with who you actually are.”

Hanna sighed, her shoulders slumping. “It just feels so unfair. I didn’t ask for any of this, but now it feels like everything’s out of control.”

He reached for her hand, his touch warm and grounding. “I know. But honestly? I’d go through it all again if it means I get to be here with you.”

Her heart fluttered, and she felt a warmth spread through her, melting the anxiety that had clung to her for days. Finn’s gaze held hers, unwavering, and she could feel the depth of his sincerity, his willingness to stand by her despite everything they’d been through.

They talked for hours, pouring out their frustrations, their regrets, and their hopes, letting the quiet of the lake surround them. The laughter, the tension, the vulnerability—they shared it all, and by the time they fell silent, Hanna felt a sense of peace she hadn’t felt in weeks.

“Finn,” she said softly, “I don’t care what anyone else thinks. I want to be with you.”

He smiled, his eyes lighting up with a mixture of relief and joy. “Me too. No more hiding, no more secrets.”

They leaned into each other, sharing a quiet, tender kiss that held the promise of new beginnings. And for the first time in what felt like forever, Hanna felt like she was exactly where she belonged.
