Chapter 299: Horton Didn’t Want to Marry Her Anymore
Chapter 299: Horton Didn’t Want to Marry Her Anymore
Halle herself didn’t know who was Emily’s father. How could she say so? Titus was sure that Halle was lying.
Moreover, which man would marry a woman like her? He did not believe that other than himself, there was another man who would treat Halle and Emily well.
He thought that Halle didn’t trust him, so she was afraid that he would treat Emily badly after they remarried. And she still harbored resentment against him for how he treated her in the past.
He knew that Halle hated him and his mother. But Spring was dying and he would be alone soon. So, he believed that till then, Halle would let things pass and be fine.
He said, "Halle, I know you are still mad at me and mom, but mom doesn’t have much time left. Maybe you should let go of that hatred!
No matter how much hatred you have, mom is now just a poor old woman. She just wants to see Emily. What could she do if she saw her?"
Titus thought he was so reasonable, which annoyed Halle.
But then, she felt that the man in front of her was so ridiculous.
She really didn’t know if he misunderstood something she said, so he never gave up on her.
Halle looked at the man in front of her seriously and said, "Mr. Tyson, I am telling you again that Emily is my daughter and she has nothing to do with the Tyson family. Your mom being this is not my fault, so I am not responsible to do anything for you. Not every poor man can do whatever he wants."
Halle thought, "You were miserable so others should offer to help? If not, then you could say they were being unkind?"
She finally knew what moral coercion was and being cheeky.
There were some people who never drew the line. So, it won’t work no matter how much you explain to them.
And it was obvious that Titus took his words as an excuse but no one bought it. He had always lived in his imagination.
He felt that everyone should be Titus-centered. Everything was all his.
He could even use his mother’s illness to pressure her. If she didn’t help him, would she be charged with being callous?
"Halle, please, have mercy on us. My mom is dying. She takes Emily as her granddaughter and she just wants to see her one more time. I promise that I wouldn’t bother you anymore," Titus pleaded.
The man kept pleading. Even a stranger would be moved. Halle thought that she might let them see Emily one more time.
She pursed her lips and looked at the man who had changed so much. She walked to the ward with him. Through the glass on the door, she saw the middle-aged woman on the bed, so weak and old.
The disease had tortured her so much that she was no longer as mean and energetic as before. Instead, she was skinny and pale.
Halle looked at the middle-aged woman on the bed who she could barely recognize, she was shocked.
She thought that Spring would not live for long, so she might look fragile. But she did not expect her to be so haggard as if she could stop breathing at any time.
She didn’t like the Tysons as well as Titus, but seeing the person who used to treat her badly become so weak, she still felt sorry.
"The doctor said that she won’t live through a month,"
Titus said with a decadent look, standing behind her. Even if Spring could be treated, they could not afford it.
The Titus family was different from the past. Their money had been spent, as well as their villas and luxury cars in the past years.
Now, Titus could only sell all the valuable things he had, even the clothes and luxuries before to live on.
How poor he was could be told through his bad suit.
Halle pursed her lips and said coldly, "I will bring Emily over for a physical examination the day after tomorrow. This is the only chance to see her."
Emily had nothing to do with the Tyson family. She agreed to help Titus only for Spring’s sake, who was dying.
Once she had done what she could, things between her and the Tyson family should come to an end.
"You’re willing... You are so kind! Halle, thank you, thank you, thank you so much!" Titus said.
He was excited. He stood in the corridor and didn’t know what to do like a child who got candy. There was finally a trace of a smile on his gaunt face.
He was so excited that he stepped forward and hugged Halle.
Halle did not expect that he would hug her like this. She struggled involuntarily, then she heard his words.
"Halle, thank you. Thank you so much. Without you, I don’t know what to do." Although this man had let her down, she could not deny that he was a good son.
Halle thought that she would hate him after divorce, but at this moment, she couldn’t.
"I only let you see Emily once!" Halle said.
"Okay, I know. As long as my mom can see Emily and leave without regrets, I will promise you anything," Titus promised.
She never wanted to strike a bargain with him, and she was not that kind of person.
She freed herself and took two steps back, deadpan.
"I have something to do, so I should go!" Halle said.
"Alright, Halle, I’ll wait for you. I’ll!" he replied.
Halle didn’t want to have anything to do with him, so she went directly to Horton’s ward.
The room was empty and the nurse had made the bed.
Halle looked at the nurse who was cleaning up the ward and asked, "Where is the patient in this room?"
The nurse said, "Are you talking about the vice director Mr. Hutt? The director wanted to speak to him, so he just left with another nurse."
Halle nodded and sat down on the sofa.
Horton was the vice director of this hospital. So, she thought that there must be a lot of things for him to deal with when he was hospitalized.
Halle felt that she was not considerate enough and that she was the one who held Horton back. So, she decided to stay here and waited for him.
She texted Hilla that she had to wait a while. While Margaret couldn’t wait anymore.
She dragged Hilla into the hospital without hesitation.
In the director’s office.
Horton was pulled in by the nurse. Then he saw Claus sitting in the director’s chair with the housekeeper standing beside him.
He frowned and was about to leave when the door behind him was closed.
"You don’t have to be surprised. I asked the director to bring you here," Claus said first.
He stared at Horton coldly, and he said with his voice low and callous, "I said I won’t let that woman be a part of the Hutt family, and I won’t let you marry her."
As the real power of the Hutt family, Claus was overbearing and superior.
Horton’s eyes narrowed slightly, and his lips curved into a sarcastic smile.
No one could decide who he should marry! Only he could!
...
Horton glanced coldly at Claus in front of him. His eyes were bland and clear.
"It’s none of your business," he said.
"What do you mean?" Claus asked.
The scowl on his face deepened. His son called him an irrelevant person.
He knew how rebellious his son was and he also knew very well why he became like this.
"Didn’t I state it clear enough? Mr. Hutt, you are distinguished, and it’s your business to get your hands into everything," Horton said.
"You...
"Horton, I know that you hate me because of your mother, and I don’t complain. Since you were little, I was not a good father. But whatever, I am your father and you are still a Hutt even if you hate to admit it. We share blood!
"And it has been years since your mother died. I have no chance to make it up to her, but I can do something for you. I can give you the whole Hutt family if you want.
"Dad can help you..." Claus said.
"That’s enough," Horton said with anger.
Claus was getting emotional, while Horton was very calm.
After all these years, he had already been so disappointed in this man.
He had come through it when he needed his father who, however, was not there.
Now he didn’t need him anymore and he wanted to make it up to him.
If people had the chance to start over, there were no regrets in the world.
"I don’t need any help from you, and I don’t want anything from your family. I’m not your only son, Mr. Hutt. I hope you can stop disturbing the life of me and my fiancée," he said.
Claus asked, "Are you determined to marry that woman?
"That divorced woman is not worthy of you. She was still messing with her ex - husband just now. Do you think that this woman comes to the hospital every time to see you? Horton, I’m afraid you don’t know that the woman doesn’t love you at all. Her ex-husband’s mother is in this hospital. Every time she comes, she just wants to catch up with her ex-husband.
"In her eyes, you are just a joke. Even if they divorced, there will always be a connection. In the end, you are just her backup.
"As long as her ex-husband needs her, that woman will eagerly come over. She has
no shame, but you still treasure her. Is it really worth it to give up your future and the property of the Hutt family just for her?"
Claus’s words were like a dagger to Horton’s heart.
There was a connection between Halle and Titus because Halle had loved him and they had... their daughter!
Horton clenched his hanging hands into fists on which the blue veins stood out.
There was a place between them that he would never be able to get in. They had a child, and no matter what he did, family bonds were the strongest.
It was as if he was one of the Hutts forever.
"It’s worth it. As long as I sincerely treat them, it’s worth it!" he answered.
Halle and Titus had divorced. So, it wouldn’t matter even if they had a daughter.
If Halle had been willing to remarry Titus, he wouldn’t have had the chance to propose.
Since Halle had accepted his proposal, he was still her
"You fool, how can you be so stubborn?" Claus scolded.
He did not expect that Horton would say so, so he was enraged.
He had a peep at the butler beside him, and the butler immediately walked over.
The butler walked up to Horton and said respectfully, "Mr. Horton, please forgive me!"
As soon as he finished his words, Horton saw a white flash, and then he was knocked out.
Claus glanced at unconscious Horton and ordered coldly, "Go sign the discharge papers for him and send him back to the Hutt’s.
"And tell the director to dismiss Horton."
Since his son was so stubborn, then he would let him know that without the Hutt family, he was nothing and the woman wouldn’t marry him.
...
In the ward, three women were bored with waiting.
Margaret looked at the time and complained, "What is Horton doing? He clearly knows that today is the day he gets married, but he keeps talking to the director. It has been more than an hour, and he is still there?"
"It’s the director who sent for him. They must have something important to do. I can wait. It’s still early," Halle said.
She blushed a little and grinned.
At first, she didn’t think much of it, but she didn’t know if it was because she had been waiting for too long. She was growing increasingly anxious.
Did Horton regret his decision to marry her?
Halle couldn’t believe that.
And then, thinking of marrying him, she had never been so shy and nervous.
It was not the first time she got married. She didn’t know why she felt so anxious. With Hilla and Margaret beside her, she had to push her feelings down, because she didn’t want to be teased by them.
"Well, I know men are unreliable. When you haven’t married them, they will treat you like a treasure and want to stay with you for every second. Now you accept their proposal, and they won’t cherish you.
"Halle, you shouldn’t have accepted him so easily. You two didn’t even have a formal proposal," Margaret complained.
No pains, no gains.
She thought that Halle had accepted his proposal so quickly, so Horton didn’t take it seriously.
"Stop, stop walking around. You are so impatient. The civil service department isn’t closing right now. There are still a few hours. It won’t be long to get things official," Hilla said.
She pulled Margaret to her side. Seeing that Halle was getting anxious, she didn’t want to add to her burden.
"That won’t do. We haven’t bought wedding candy and fruit yet. Even though it is a small wedding, we need to create a little ritual around the activity," Margaret said.
She stood up and continued, "No, I have to go and buy these things first. We are already late. I must save some time for you two."
Hilla smiled and watched her go, and she turned to Halle and said, "Her own wedding is coming, too. But she doesn’t even care to prepare the invitations. When it comes to you, she takes everything to heart."
Hilla really liked this cute Margaret.
Halle laughed, and said in a gentle voice, "Miss Anderson is indeed a kind and warm-hearted girl."
Such a good girl deserved an excellent and considerate man.
Hilla and Halle waited in the room, but Horton didn’t come back as time went by.
It was until the nurse came in to clean then they knew that Horton had already left the hospital two hours ago.
Halle was stunned and couldn’t believe it. She thought that Horton didn’t want to marry her anymore!
