Chapter 254: The Defiance Bar
Chapter 254: The Defiance Bar
Seraphina Redgrave still sat on the couch like before, one hand holding a fawn, and the other gently shaking a small mirror she randomly found.Reflecting the outside light into the palm of his hand.
Seeing him turn around, Seraphina stopped her movement and deeply gazed at him, "Ethan Sterling, don’t say such things anymore."
"What things?" His heartstrings were slightly touched, and he felt a bit of an itch in his palm.
"Those words about losing it and going crazy."
Seraphina spoke word by word, weak yet surprisingly resolute, "In each of our worlds, there’s a darkness and evil we don’t want anyone to see, but no matter how dark, it cannot stop the sun from shining through."
She won’t stay defeated like this forever, nor should he keep bringing up the turmoil within himself.
If he could guide her, he should open up a bit himself.
Even though he said he didn’t care, he still felt hurt deep down.
Ethan stood at the top of the stairs, with a strong contrast between the light speck and the darkness in the stairwell.
Ethan’s lips moved, but in the end, he didn’t speak.
She knew what he cared about.
No matter how dark, there was light shining through, and she was that light for him.
Ethan couldn’t help but glance again at the light in his palm, and this time, he clenched it, he wouldn’t let go.
After quite some time, Ethan spoke, his voice hoarse, "Seraphina Redgrave, do you know why it has to be you?"
He never lacked women around him, so why only her?
"..."
Seraphina was stunned for a moment, not knowing how to answer the question.
Ethan curled up a smile, an unknown emotion in his eyes, "Because from the start, it was you who initiated."
She laid herself in his sight.
Every move Seraphina made seemed to hook onto his heart tightly, making it impossible for him to move.
Since that was the case, she couldn’t blame him for not wanting to let go.
"..."
Seraphina didn’t expect this to be the reason.
How did it become that she was the one initiating it? Did it mean she was deliberately seducing him?
Thinking so, Seraphina put down the mirror she was holding up.
Ethan noticed the light speck was gone and quickly descended the stairs, walking over to Seraphina, setting the kitten down, and then scooping Seraphina up, "Come, stay by my side."
"..."
Seraphina wanted to cry but had no tears, "Can you pretend I didn’t say anything just now?"
He had work to do, and her staying by his side seemed inappropriate.
"No."
Ethan directly refused, then bit her lip as a form of playful revenge, "I think your ailment shouldn’t get any better, staying at home every day is just fine."
Making her do whatever he wants her to do.
"..."
Seraphina didn’t know what to say.
...
A new bar opened on Orion Road, called "The Defiance," recently becoming extremely popular, with almost every influencer scrambling to check in.
The owner behind this place isn’t some well-capitalized big shot, but a young university student.
The shop was lavishly decorated, and the European palace-style bar wasn’t as tacky as similar venues.
Customers entering would immediately see the spacious and unique dance floor.
An alluring DJ spun records at the highest point, while overhead light balls constantly shifted shapes and positions, and the fashionable young men and women below danced away, fueled by alcohol and atmosphere.
The hall design was so clever that everyone could find a good spot to hang out, and the booths didn’t block each other’s views.
On a private viewing platform, all members of The Defiance Society were gathered, as their last meeting was foiled by Seraphina’s unexplained absence.
Seraphina didn’t seem to know what had happened to her; for several consecutive days, she hadn’t even shown up for school.
She had everyone play amongst themselves first, so they gathered.
Rory was twisting her plump body and dancing wildly with Claire Ford.
Ronan Yates held a bottle of liquor in one hand and gripped the railing next to him with the other, swaying his head from side to side, clearly in a good mood.
Beatrice Fawcett also held a bottle, approaching Ronan and shouting, "Is this a bar or a club, getting this lively?"
Ronan nonchalantly waved his hand, "Whether it’s a club or a bar, as long as there are people to make money from, it’s all fine."
Ronan looked at the men and women below, proudly saying, "Look, how long has it been? My place has already become Sovereign’s hottest check-in spot, the booths are booked full by those rich second-gens every day, and some even urge me to open more branches."
"That amazing?" Beatrice downed another sip of fiery liquor.
"Of course! Let’s just say, I’m no good at academics, but making money is my forte, although I was previously held back by reality."
Ronan laughed proudly, "In a place like Sovereign, not just anyone can open a bar. But now, with you all backing me and the formidable Seraphina, who wouldn’t call me boss at first sight?"
The Defiance Society members now held significant prestige outside.
"Don’t get too carried away, otherwise you’ll cause a lot of trouble for Seraphina," Beatrice cautioned with good intentions.
"That surely won’t happen, I’ll give Seraphina plenty of face," Ronan confidently patted his chest.
Suddenly, there was a wave of cheers below, as a young man dressed in trendy luxury clothing shared a French kiss with a woman wrapped tightly in a body-hugging dress.
People around were chanting, "Kiss, kiss!"
The man’s vanity was greatly satisfied at that moment, raising his hand, he told the people around him, "I’m happy today, so I’m covering drinks for everyone here!"
"Woohoo!" The people below went wild with excitement, dancing with greater gusto, as the scene’s atmosphere was heightened.
He thoroughly enjoyed being the center of attention, unable to suppress the smile at the corners of his mouth, holding the girl in his arms, twisting his body more sensuously, with the girl fully cooperating with him.
"Did you see that guy? They have a circle, all rich second-gens, and he’s particularly famous, Master Coleman, his family’s into oil, financially formidable, recently took a fancy to a new girl, bringing her to the bar daily, happily covering all drinks when pleased, throwing money around like it’s nothing."
Ronan remarked, staring at the figure.
"What are you talking about?"
Rory and Claire, seeing Ronan speaking enthusiastically, also gathered around for gossip.
The eight members of The Defiance Society thus huddled together.
"Check out the girl Master Coleman is holding; I heard she was madly in love with someone who escaped from Veridian Isle, but ended up being bedded by Master Coleman’s money."
Ronan shared all he’d heard with them, clicking his tongue, "Looking at her now, dressed in designer brands from head to toe, she must be quite happy, I suppose."
"Escaped from Veridian Isle?" James Lynch was somewhat surprised.
"Yes, I also heard that Master Coleman, out of revenge, had people throw him at the police station’s door; later, he was sentenced to death, already executed, probably crossed The Oblivion Bridge by now."
Ronan mused with some sentiment.
