Chapter 253: Pull Yourself Together
Chapter 253: Pull Yourself Together
"I understand." Ethan Sterling pressed his forehead against hers, "I just want you to know, even someone like me has tried to cheer you up. If you still don’t get better soon, I’ll...""You’ll what?" Seraphina Redgrave raised her eyebrows.
"I’ll make your back ache for three days and nights." Ethan smiled wickedly.
Seraphina was speechless.
When will this guy ever stop making dirty jokes anytime, anywhere?
She didn’t want to continue this topic, so she rubbed the little cat’s head in her arms and suggested, "Let’s give it a name."
Since it’s staying, it needs a name.
Hearing this, Ethan’s expression immediately darkened, his eyes coldly scrutinizing the little cat, "If you dare to name it Little Zach, Little Zane, I’ll throw it out at once."
Zachary had just died, and Seraphina surely missed him a lot. If she intended to use this little cat as an emotional substitute...
Humph, he wouldn’t give her that chance.
"I wouldn’t..."
What’s going on in his head every day?
Seraphina sighed; clearly, she and Zachary just had a normal sibling relationship.
Zachary was gone, and if she named the little cat like that, wouldn’t it make her feel worse?
"As long as you don’t." Ethan finally relaxed, "Since it looks so ugly, let’s call it Joker."
"..."
Ugly? It’s so cute.
The little cat in her arms twisted more vigorously, obviously resisting the name.
Seraphina was attracted to this little cat at first sight because of its watery eyes, which looked a bit aggrieved and pitiable.
She originally wanted to name it "Warmth," but Ethan’s mark was too obvious on such a name.
Thinking if this little cat could survive healthily...
Thinking of this, Seraphina looked at Ethan, "Let’s call it Fawn."
Ethan, Fawn, and this little cat, they all had the same look in their eyes.
Even if it was just for an instant.
But she remembered it clearly.
Thinking this way, she didn’t notice that naming the cat was actually all related to Ethan.
"This is a cat, and you want to name it Fawn?"
Ethan couldn’t understand Seraphina’s idea, so he added, "If you really like deer, I’ll buy one for you to raise."
"No, keeping deer is too troublesome, the cat is enough." Seraphina refused without thinking.
If they started keeping deer, knowing Ethan, he might end up bringing an entire forest for her.
"Suit yourself then."
Ethan showed no interest in the little cat, only constantly monitoring Seraphina’s condition, feeling relieved when her complexion seemed less pale than before.
In this short moment, Ethan had already checked her temperature multiple times with his hand.
Seraphina suddenly felt that if she continued to be so lethargic, it would be a disservice to him.
Fawn was a well-behaved little cat, lazily lying on Seraphina’s lap, its fluffy little head rubbing against her back of the hand, blinking its big round eyes adorably.
Ethan felt somewhat uncomfortable with this scene, "Is this cat male or female?"
"Special Assistant Ayers said it’s female."
Seraphina replied.
That was acceptable.
Ethan leant over, his hand pushing Fawn’s head aside to prevent it from rubbing against Seraphina’s hand.
Fawn was very obedient, despite being pushed, it wouldn’t get mad or scratch, and instead gazed wetly at Ethan, then pathetically moved back.
"Miss." Nanny Lynch quickly ran down from upstairs, "When I was tidying up the room earlier, I heard your phone ringing non-stop, are you going to take the call?"
Nanny Lynch was holding Seraphina’s previous old phone. She paused slightly, turning to look at Ethan.
Ethan had one leg up, a few legs on the ground, leaning lazily on the sofa, still in a pointless tussle with the cat, pushing and pulling, utterly delightful.
Seraphina thought Ethan hadn’t noticed her conversation with Nanny Lynch but then he suddenly spoke, "Are you reluctant to discard this phone?"
His voice was light, devoid of emotion.
Back then, after giving Seraphina a limited edition phone, Ethan forbade her from contacting others. However, she had too many things to manage in her work and studies, which made avoiding communication with others impossible.
Seraphina didn’t answer directly, "Are you mad?"
Hearing this, Ethan looked deeply at Seraphina, "I’m a bit inclined to be mad."
Why inclined?
Seraphina was puzzled, and Ethan snorted coldly, "But it seems unnecessary, otherwise I might drive you mad before my temper flares."
In her current state, if he got angry at her, wouldn’t it really push her into depression?
"..."
Seraphina never thought that getting sick could make Ethan so easygoing.
She nodded to Nanny Lynch, then took the phone.
Holding the phone, Seraphina was about to press the answer key when Ethan leaned in close, resting his head near her ear, "I’m not mad this time, but remember, I’m possessive."
"Then you should understand I don’t have the time to ponder trivial matters now."
It’s just another phone, it doesn’t mean she has some peculiar connection outside.
Hearing this, Ethan’s expression softened a bit, and he didn’t rebuke her.
Ethan’s hand continued to battle with the little cat.
Damned thing.
Still wants to lie in my woman’s lap.
He was so annoyed he almost flung the cat directly to the ground.
Seraphina sat on the sofa looking at messages on her phone, sent by Hector Shaw.
He had already uncovered the whereabouts of the rich second-generation kid and Zachary’s ex-girlfriend.
Seraphina read carefully, and although her face was still pale, determination reignited in her eyes.
She couldn’t continue like this.
Just like Ethan said, lying in bed, she couldn’t save more people from Veridian Isle; she could only watch them perish helplessly.
It held no meaning.
She needed to accelerate her steps now, quickly complete her plan, not letting the people of Veridian Isle die in vain, she needed to show everyone that they had the right to live.
Ethan and the cat battled back and forth for quite a while before he let go, "I’m going to the study to handle some work."
"Okay."
Seraphina closed the phone and spoke, hugging Fawn.
Ethan glanced dismissively at this pair of human and cat before standing and heading towards the stairs. Due to the construction of the villa, the stairs had no windows, making the lighting rather dim.
Since no lights were on, as he ascended step by step, it felt like he was walking into a dark abyss.
Suddenly, he felt a light spot dancing in the air.
He halted, slowly raising his left hand that hung by his side, and the light spot fell right into his palm.
"Why are you so good at comforting people today?"
Seraphina’s words echoed again in his ears.
He slowly opened his fingers around the light spot, as if in this way, he could keep it in his palm forever.
He watched like this for a while, then turned to look at that little woman.
