Chapter 291: Like a Withering Flower (II)
"Wha—me?" Jojo gawked when his mother mentioned his name. Then his face brightened as he got excited. "Mommy, does that mean I can go with you into the faerie land?"
"You have drunk the water from the faerie land. That means the earth has accepted you," Sisi explained. "But my grandmother said that you can’t stay for too long. You still need to leave before dusk."
"This is the only way for you to meet me, Jojo. After all, I’m entering my late stage of pregnancy, and it has been too difficult for me to travel back and forth," Sisi added.
"Yay! Mommy, thank you so much!" Jojo said while hugging Sisi gently, not wanting to hurt his baby sibling. "I will visit you every day, Mommy! And I can play with the faeries too!"
"That’s good. The faeries are waiting for you, Jojo," Sisi said while patting his head.
Meanwhile, Kael was watching in silence the whole time. He knew that he should be happy Jojo could visit Sisi every day.
But his heart was breaking piece by piece as he realized that he had to endure three months of not seeing his wife at all.
He felt powerless as a man and hopeless as a husband. He didn’t know what to say, and whether he should voice out his grievance.
Sisi turned her head towards Kael and held his hand to snap him out of his daze.
She knew that Kael must’ve been sad about this whole thing, but Sisi had to make a choice to save the baby. Grandma Tree said that the last stage of her pregnancy needed to be watched carefully, and Sisi couldn’t be stubborn this time because she could feel her body weakening rapidly every day, to the point that she had to mask her face with magic to hide the paleness.
"Husband, I’m sorry..." Sisi said. "I’m sorry that I can’t visit you anymore."
"You don’t have to be sorry about it, wife," Kael forced a smile. "It’s good that Jojo can visit you anytime. He really needs you."
’Just as much as I need you too, wife...’ Kael added in his heart, but dared not to say it out loud because he didn’t want Sisi to feel guilty.
"Anyway, it’s just for three months at most, right? I can just wait in here until you give birth, and then we can finally go home, to the Beast Kingdom."
Kael silently wished for it. He hoped that everything would go well and Sisi would give birth safely to a healthy cub.
Then, they could finally go home.
His heart and instinct had been ringing this whole time, telling him that Sisi’s life was in danger.
Yet, Sisi looked healthy, and there was no sign of her hurting. So all he could do was suppress his needless worry.
Sisi smiled at Kael before giving him a quick kiss on the lips. "Husband, make sure to keep yourself safe while I am not by your side. Don’t forget to eat healthy, take care of the kingdom for our children’s future, and also rest well. Even if you don’t need rest or sleep, I know that you often get stressed over a lack of sleep."
"Don’t worry about the kingdom. I’ve been going in and out of this area just to communicate with them. The kingdom is stable and is waiting for your return," Kael replied.
"Mm, that’s good," Sisi suddenly turned around and said, "I’m not feeling well right now. I think the baby has been kicking too many times, so I get too tired."
"Then you should return, wife. Don’t worry about Jojo and me. We are here, waiting for you to come home once you’re healthy."
Sisi nodded. "From now on, Jojo will be escorted by the faeries to the faerie land every morning, and then return before dusk. I’ll just stay in the faerie land until I give birth to our child."
Then, Sisi slowly turned her head towards her husband again with tears glistening in her eyes, "And you should know how much I will miss you, Kael."
"Sisi!" Kael hugged her from behind as he saw the tears. "W-what’s wrong? Did something happen in the faerie land? Why are you crying?"
"Oh, haha—it’s nothing," Sisi said while wiping her tears. "I’m just feeling sentimental, since we won’t be able to meet each other until I have my safe delivery. Three months is a long time, you know?"
Kael gritted his teeth as he was also feeling the same. How come he had to wait for three months to see her again?
But Sisi was stubborn about keeping the baby when it was just a few weeks old, and now at the late stage, it would be too dangerous to abort it.
Besides, Sisi would always get angry whenever Kael mentioned not needing the baby if it would only harm her.
Thus, Kael decided to be obedient and followed his wife’s wish. After all, Sisi said she should be safe as long as she gave birth inside the faerie land.
"Don’t worry about it, wife. It’s only three months until we can finally reunite and live a good life together," Kael comforted her. "After this, let’s just stop with two children. We don’t need more, alright?"
Sisi bit her lip, but nodded in the end.
"Mm. I hope that you’ll love our two children equally."
"Of course!" Kael replied without hesitation. "Jojo and our future baby are my treasures in life. They are the only reason why I’m still bothered to do my duty as the Beast King."
"Then, that’s good," Sisi giggled. "Now, let me go. I’ll have to leave."
After Kael let her go slowly, she patted Jojo’s head and said, "Sebek, the alligator uncle, will be at the lakeside by tomorrow morning. You can always ask him if you want to visit me, alright?"
"Un! Ah, I can’t wait to visit you tomorrow, Mommy!"
Thus, Sisi returned to the faerie land with all her might, as she was on the brink of collapse from exhaustion.
