Chapter 290: Like a Withering Flower (I)
Chapter 290: Like a Withering Flower (I)
Kael’s face brightened instantly. He nodded vigorously and said, "I will! Don’t worry about it!"
Sisi chuckled and slowly lay on the makeshift bed made out of straws and a bedsheet made out of big leaves. She was still holding Jojo in her arm, silently lulling him to make sure that Jojo would have a good dream tonight, since he had endured days sleeping with only his father.
Kael lay carefully right behind her, spooning both Jojo and Sisi in his big embrace, inhaling the scent coming from Sisi’s nape.
He truly missed this moment, and it turned into longing, because he spent most of his days staring at the waterfall, waiting for his wife to come out and spend more time with her family.
But he couldn’t ask for much, because Sisi said that her body got weak when she was out of the faerie land due to her pregnancy.
After all, she was pregnant with the child of a cursed being; it was bound to make it difficult for her.
"Wife..." Kael whispered. "If that baby is hurting you, then... we can just remove it..."
Sisi’s body stiffened instantly, and she shook her head.
"No."
That short and simple answer was all it needed for Kael to know that Sisi’s decision was unwavering. She wouldn’t abort this baby no matter what.
And Kael became increasingly worried.
"Then, promise me that you’ll take care of yourself and will not be harmed. I don’t want you to get hurt because of it."
"Why are you worrying over something like that, husband? Don’t worry, as long as I give birth inside my grandmother’s garden, the baby shouldn’t be harmed," Sisi said before closing her eyes. "Mm, I’m a little sleepy. Didn’t you promise me that you will sleep as well?"
"... Alright," Kael sighed. He kissed his beloved’s cheek and whispered, "Good night, sweetheart."
"Good night, husband."
Kael tried his best to suppress his restless heart, while Sisi was trying her best to suppress the guilt in her heart.
Yes, she was being selfish by not telling the truth to her husband. But it was just impossible to do so, not when she knew that Kael would insist on her giving up the baby just to save her life.
But she didn’t want to.
All this time, she had been very selfless for others, but she wanted to be selfish this time. She wanted to keep the baby no matter what, even if it might harm her.
’I am sorry, Kael. But this is my selfish request. Please let me give birth to this baby. It is a calling from the depths of my heart as your wife, as a woman, a mother, and as the Darling of the Earth.’

Six months had passed ever since Sisi was forcefully brought back to the faerie land, and her belly bump had become noticeable.
Sisi found it increasingly difficult to travel between faerie land and visit her family every day.
The faerie soldiers could only lift her up until the entrance of the faerie land, because her body would gradually get bigger as they were nearing the waterfall as part of the faerie magic.
But Sisi still insisted on checking on her husband and son every day, to the point that Sebek the giant alligator couldn’t help but comment,"Darling, is it really okay for you to go back and forth like this? Your body... is weakening. I can feel it."
"Thank you for worrying about me, Sebek. But I’m fine," Sisi faked a smile as she stepped on the alligator’s head and stood right in the middle of his body.
"But Darling, you are pregnant with the Dusk Star’s child. It must be painful..."
...
Sisi said nothing more, because it was just too difficult to speak right now. She was breathing heavily, and she had to use a bit of faerie magic to cover up her paleness, or else Kael would’ve caught on immediately and wouldn’t let her return to the faerie land no matter what.
Once Sebek reached the lakeside, Jojo and Kael had been waiting there, smiling at her.
Jojo was waving his hand happily, and once Sisi stepped onto the lakeside, he rushed to hug his mother, and then rubbed his head on his mother’s belly.
Then, his eyes widened and he looked up, "Mommy, my baby sibling kicked me just now!"
"Really?" Sisi chuckled. "That means you shouldn’t be rough. You can’t keep bumping into me like that, Jojo."
"Un! I’m sorry, Mommy," Jojo said before rubbing his head on his mother’s bump again. "I’m sorry, baby!"
"Are you alright?" Kael asked worriedly as he drew near. He was about to scold Jojo for being too rough, but Sisi shook her head.
"I’m fine. Jojo is still a boy. He’s just excited," Sisi said.
Nevertheless, Kael rubbed his son’s head and reprimanded him,"Don’t be too rough on your sibling, Jojo. Your mother is very tired."
"Un... sorry, Daddy..."
Kael had been watching over his wife every day and felt that Sisi’s body was weakening over time. But her appearance was ruddy, and she was energetic as always.
So it made him wonder if he was just overly worried, or if he should trust his instinct this time.
"You shouldn’t visit every day, wife. You’re entering your late stage of pregnancy... or something like that, I’m not sure," Kael said, as he had no experience regarding this. But seeing the baby bump made it obvious that it was hard to walk.
He really wished to have Sisi every day, but if it actually harmed her, then she could just rest inside the faerie land instead.
"Is it possible for me to walk into the faerie land? So I can visit you every day..." Kael asked for the hundredth time.
And the answer was still the same.
"You can’t. You are the Dusk Star, Kael. It’s... impossible, because your presence will create chaos inside the delicate faerie land," Sisi said. "Besides, you won’t be able to enter through the long tunnel because only faeries or those blessed with faeries can do that."
Then, Sisi turned towards her son and smiled, "Such as you, Jojo."
