Chapter 287: A Promise to be Safe (I)

Chapter 287: A Promise to be Safe (I)

Thus, with a heavy heart, Grandma Tree finally allowed Sisi to leave the garden. The faeries were glad that their Darling was unharmed so far, but they were actually surprised that Grandma Tree allowed her to leave.

And to answer the worried look in their eyes, Sisi smiled and replied,"Grandma allows me to leave the faerie land up until Sebek, the alligator’s area. My son and husband are waiting for me."

"D-Darling, but you are not allowed to... leave..." Healer Roro said. "Your pregnancy, it’s..."

"I won’t leave. I just want to calm them down. They traveled far just to meet me again, because they are worried about me after I got swallowed by a flytrap," Sisi pacified them. "I’ll go outside."

"Daddy, will Mommy finally come to meet us?" Jojo asked with a low voice. His eyes didn’t leave the waterfall where his mother entered the faerie land before. "What if something happened to Mommy?"

"If she dies, then I can feel it immediately, boy," Kael said while carrying Jojo in his arms. His eyes were also glued to the waterfall, waiting for Sisi to come and meet them. "Your mother should be safe, but I don’t know how long they are going to hold her hostage."

"I hope it’s not too long, Daddy. Mommy should go home with us..."

"I know, son. I know..."

They continued waiting without moving an inch from their position, and then the waterfall started to part in the middle. Sisi sat on top of a giant alligator, and once she landed right at the lakeside, she jumped out of the alligator and hugged her family.

"Jojo! Kael!"

Jojo had been trying his best not to cry, since he thought that his mother left because he had been clingy and naughty.

But when she hugged him tightly, his little heart wavered and he burst like a destroyed dam. He wailed while hugging his mother’s neck,"Mommy! Mommy, why did you leave? Wuahhhhhh!!"

Sisi’s heart clenched when she heard his cry. It must’ve been traumatizing for the young boy, and now he’d be even clingier than before.

But that also made her feel guilty, because she knew that Jojo would have to eventually face a real separation from her soon enough.

Nevertheless, she allowed the boy to cry out his worry, even went as far as moving from being carried by his father to his mother instead.

Kael, on the other hand, stared at his wife silently with his crimson eyes. He couldn’t cry and hug her despite wanting to do so, because he had a question in mind—a crucial one.

"What happened, Wife? Why did the faeries take you back so roughly?" he asked. Then to top it all off, he added, "You’re pregnant. You should be in the Beast Kingdom with all the best care the palace could give."

Sisi knew that Kael would eventually ask that question. She just didn’t expect it to be so abrupt.

Jojo stopped crying gradually and then looked up at her, waiting for her answer as well.

Though she was here to pacify her family, she had no intention of returning to the Beast Kingdom, simply because it was impossible to do so, since her body wouldn’t be able to survive outside of the faerie land while being pregnant with Kael’s child.

But she also had no intention of telling Kael about the risk, because she knew that he’d try whatever he could to abort this baby, and Sisi... perhaps being the Darling of the Earth was a blessing and a curse, because she might as well die if she lost this baby.

It was a strong motherly instinct that pulled her into making a devastatingly selfless, yet also selfish decision.

Thus, her reply would naturally lean toward pacifying Kael and Jojo, while also hiding her real situation.

"My grandmother panicked when she heard that I got pregnant. So she took me by force and brought me back to the faerie land," Sisi replied. "She said that faeries aren’t born like other species. They shouldn’t be pregnant in the first place."

"My body will get very weak as time goes on outside of the faerie land while I’m pregnant, so she wants to keep me safe... at least until I give birth."

Kael’s eyes widened."Then, the child in your belly is harming you? We should—"

He was about to say that they should abort it. But Sisi signaled with her eyes that Jojo was with them, and it’d be even more traumatizing for the boy to know that they’d have to kill the fetus before it harmed her even more.

"Don’t worry about it, husband. I should be fine as long as I am staying in the faerie land for the duration of my pregnancy—so, about nine months," Sisi said. "Then after our baby is born... then I will be fine."

Kael was relieved hearing that. He had intended to bring Sisi back forcefully if she wasn’t allowed to leave at all. After all, he really couldn’t live without Sisi.

He was very happy that she was pregnant with their child. But at the same time, he was more worried about her.

What if she got hurt during labor? Sisi wasn’t a beastman after all; her physique was a lot weaker than a female beastman’s.

But if it took nine months for her to stay in here and then they could return together to the Beast Kingdom, then so be it.

"Then, I’ll just stay in here, in that wooden hut that you made before," Kael pointed at the hut made out of vines and branches. "This area is still within faerie domain, right? So you should be able to visit once or twice."

Sisi... she actually wanted that to begin with. She was about to ask him to stay, so she could spend more time with him, since she didn’t have much time to live anyway.

But how about Jojo?

Sisi looked down at her son, and Jojo sulked while saying,"Mommy, you have to meet us often! It’s so lonely without you!"
