Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy

Chapter 288: A Promise to be Safe (II)

Chapter 288: A Promise to be Safe (II)

"Hush, don’t say that. You still have your Daddy, right?" Sisi mentioned. "Now that you’ll live in the forest with him, you should ask him to teach you how to hunt bigger prey. You’re going to be five in a week after all."

"Un! I will be a big boy! I will hunt a bull for you, Mommy!" Jojo declared. Though, the best he could do was to hunt a young deer at best.

Nevertheless, Sisi believed in her son. He had proven himself time to time as a great hunter; all he needed was to grow up properly, and he’d be a great Beast King in the future.

"But then, who’d take care of the kingdom if you’re here for nine months, husband?" Sisi asked.

"Don’t worry, I’ll go out of this area and send a secret signal to the scouts. Vestor and Grishaw should come to meet me not long after," Kael explained. "Then, I can tell them that the Queen and King would be unavailable for nine months straight, so they have to take care of the Beast Kingdom properly for that duration."

"You should check the kingdom frequently as well. No matter how competent Grishaw and Vestor are, the kingdom will be bound to crumble without your figure," Sisi tried to talk some sense into her man. "Besides, it’d be bad if the Beast Kingdom has fallen the moment Jojo and our baby return home, right? You said that you built the kingdom for Jojo’s safety and future."

"Right..."

True, that was the sole reason why he’d do something so exhausting such as building a kingdom.

Now that they’d have another child, Kael had to make sure that the Beast Kingdom would continue to flourish, so their children wouldn’t have to live like he did back then.

Sisi smiled seeing that the problem had been settled. Yes, she was lying to them, and it was selfish not to tell her husband or son about her condition.

But she’d rather spend the next nine months being happy with her family than worrying about her imminent death. As long as her baby was safe, then she believed that the baby would be safe in their father’s arms, or perhaps in the faerie land.

She’d have to ask about this later with her grandmother.

"Well, since you two are here, you must’ve been hungry after a long trip. How about I make you roasted mushrooms for dinner?" Sisi offered, and Jojo’s golden eyes glimmered instantly.

"Me! I want roasted mushrooms! They are delicious!" Jojo looked at his father and said, "Daddy, you need to try them too! They taste like meat sometimes!"

"Sometimes?" Kael’s lips curled. But he was happy seeing that the situation had been cleared.

"Let’s go back to the hut. I’ll hunt for something for us to eat—meat—while you two are roasting mushrooms, especially you—wife, you need to eat a lot of meat since you’re pregnant with a wolf’s cub," Kael said while carrying both Sisi and Jojo to the hut.

The atmosphere in the hut was lovely as Kael returned with a few skinned rabbits and roasted them after they finished roasting the mushrooms.

Kael actually liked spending time with his wife and son like this over staying in the palace, because his nature as a lone wolf made him prefer solitude with the people he loved.

Nevertheless, the kingdom was still his responsibility, but he was happy to be able to do this.

They ate to their hearts’ content. But things changed right after Sisi lulled Jojo to sleep.

She slowly got up and walked towards the lake.

Kael followed from behind, and when he saw her calling the giant alligator, he couldn’t help but hug her from behind and whisper,

"Must you leave tonight? I was horrified when you were swallowed by that plant, and now I’ll have to watch you return to the faerie land again."

Kael tightened his hug around her and rested his face on her nape.

"It hurts, Sisi. I don’t like how we’re so close, yet so far. And I have this needless anxiety that you’ll leave Jojo and me permanently in the future."

Sisi’s heart was aching hearing such words coming out of his mouth. Perhaps because they were fated mates, Kael could sense the foreboding signs of her departure.

But she had made her decision, and nothing would change it.

"Why are you worrying over nothing, husband? I just need to stay in the faerie land until I give birth to our child. Staying in the faerie land is the only way for me to prolong my life," Sisi said. "Besides, the faerie land is my home. I am bound to this place, so I’ll have to govern it from time to time just like how you have to rule over the Beast Kingdom."

"That’s not what I meant, wife..." Kael sighed. "I have a feeling that you’d leave me and Jojo entirely—not to the faerie land, but to a place that I couldn’t reach anymore, even if I turn the earth upside down."

"You’re just imagining things! I—I will never leave you," Sisi tried to pacify him. "What’s more important right now is to take care of Jojo while you’re here, and I’ll take care of our baby in the faerie land, got it?"

"You should let me go now, husband. Sebek is already waiting, and the faeries are at the gate too, waiting for me anxiously."

Kael was still reluctant to let her go. But she insisted, and he didn’t know what’d happen if he pissed off the faeries.

Sure, he was definitely stronger than all of them, but Sisi’s grandmother was a mythical being that protected the Roc Forest. He didn’t want to be barred from meeting with his wife.

In the end, he finally let her go.

He watched as the alligator swam to the waterfall, and his beloved disappeared soon after.

"Sisi, what is this uneasy feeling that I have? Must I suppress it and wait for nine months for us to reunite completely?"
