Chapter 286: Nature of a Darling

Chapter 286: Nature of a Darling

[Song Recommendation: Alien Stage - Wiege (English Cover).]

Sisi’s question had truly stunned her Grandma because that question truly evoked the essence of her life as the Darling of the Earth.

She was destined to be the Darling of the Earth, an all-loving mother of the faeries. She was their leader, protector, and most importantly—their mother.

All the faeries, no matter their age, would always obey their Darling even if their darling was just a baby.

She loved all faeries, and her motherly love extended to the Dawn Star of this era. She raised him with such care that the Dawn Star didn’t end up corrupted at a young age.

But now, all she wanted was to be a mother for the child that she gave birth to. She wanted to see the fruit of love between her and the man she loved.

So, Grandma Tree truly had no reason to stop her because aborting her baby was against her very own nature as the epitome of motherly love.

Sisi was like a candle that burned so bright, illuminating the way to everyone else so they could live a better life.

Yet, once everyone finally left, the candle would eventually burn itself out, living in the darkness without anyone by her side for eternity.

Grandma Tree was an embodiment of Mother Nature, graced by the Sun and Moon Goddess to act as a balance on earth.

The Darlings were basically all of her direct children that had some of her personality. She had witnessed countless deaths of her Darlings, yet Sisi actually devastated her the most.

She had lived such a hard life, and just when her life was starting to get better, she had to face an impending doom.

"I should’ve forbidden you from marrying the Dusk Star—no, I should’ve stopped you from ever raising that boy!" Grandma wept while hugging her dearest tightly. "My dearest, why is fate so cruel towards you? You’ve only met me briefly, and now we’re going to get separated again!"

Sisi’s heart was aching as well, but no amount of tears would be able to stop her from making this decision.

"It’s... fated, Grandma. I would’ve died long ago in that farm with my corpse getting defiled by my wretched adoptive father, but it was Jojo’s cries of distress that awakened my power, so you could finally find me.

It’s impossible for me not to take care of Jojo, because he saved my life, just as I saved his.

You also cannot do anything against my marriage with Kael, because he is fated to me by the Moon Goddess herself. Even if you try to stop me, we will find a way to get together because it’s... inevitable."

"I know it’s inevitable, dearest! I just... I just don’t understand why it has to be like this!"

Sisi had never seen her Grandma getting this upset. Grandma had probably lived since the beginning of the earth, so she should be desensitized to such tragic ends.

"Dearest, is there truly no way for me to change your mind?" she asked.

And Sisi shook her head. "I am sorry, Grandma. I... I will give birth to this baby."

"Even if your husband wants you to abort it?"

"... Please don’t say anything to my husband about this, Grandma."

Grandma separated herself from the hug and stared at her in disbelief.

"What are you talking about, dearest? He needs to know the consequence of his actions! He knows damn well that he’s not supposed to procreate, yet here you are!"

"Because I know he’ll do everything he can to abort the baby. He is selfish by nature, and he’d sacrifice the baby if that would save me," Sisi said. "And I don’t want that. If I actually lose the baby forcefully, then do you think I can actually continue to live?"

Grandma Tree was trying to find a way to make this madness stop. But Sisi’s eyes were burning with resolute decision. She would not budge no matter what would happen.

However, right when she was about to persuade her granddaughter more, the old woman suddenly stopped speaking and looked at her granddaughter in shock.

Sisi noticed it and asked, "Grandma, what’s wrong?"

Then, the sound of a wooden bell suddenly echoed inside the whole garden. It was a mechanism that Grandma Tree created as some sort of doorbell.

Only the Elder of each generation was able to ring it for an emergency.

Then, Elder Toto’s voice echoed following the sound of the bell,

"Grandma, the Dusk Star and Dawn Star, they are... outside. They’ve just arrived to take Darling Sisi back to the Beast Kingdom."

"H-how long have I been in here?" Sisi asked. She knew that the time inside Grandma Tree’s Garden was considerably slower, that a little conversation could actually take an entire day outside of the garden.

"Dearest, you... you cannot leave the faerie land," Grandma warned. But she knew that forbidding Sisi was impossible, so she added, "You’re still allowed to go and check on them right outside of the entrance, but you cannot be too far from the faerie land."

"I’ve promised to stay with you, Grandma. As long as I can meet my husband and my son outside of the entrance, then I’d be more than grateful..."

"No, it’s not only because of that, dearest. You’re just a frail mortal now, and your body will naturally weaken if you’re not close to me—the Tree of Origin," Grandma Tree said. "I’m just warning you not to leave too far, because the farther you go, the more you will realize that your body is getting eaten from the inside out by the seed of the Dusk Star inside of you..."

Sisi knew that her grandmother wouldn’t lie about something so important, and she did a quick thinking to determine her next move, then nodded.

"Alright, Grandma. I promise to be good. Don’t worry, I just want to see them and pacify them. They went on a long journey to find me after all..."
