Miss Beautiful C.E.O and her system

Chapter 779: Kate's speechlessness

Chapter 779: Kate's speechlessness

"Shut up!" Kate snapped, finally losing the restraint she had tried to maintain earlier. She almost fainted from myocardial infarction, particularly when her sugar level was low from exercise.

"Hey, as a fellow classmate, I'm hurt by your attitude," Ling Qingyu said, placing a hand over her chest and pretending to look heartbroken.

Kate, fuming with irritation, realized she was beginning to lose her composure. She ignored Ling Qingyu's theatrical act and sat down in her main chair, taking several deep breaths to calm herself.

After all, she wasn't completely innocent in this matter either.

Indulging in a secret affair inside her own office carried a strange thrill—something exciting and forbidden. And the partner she had chosen certainly didn't make it easier to resist: a handsome man with a model-like figure and well-defined muscles in all the right places.

Kate glanced toward the curious secretaries outside. They were clearly peeking in her direction.

She gestured for them to close the door from the outside.

Rolling her eyes at their gossip-hungry expressions, Kate couldn't help but chuckle when they obediently shut the door—though not without cheeky smiles.

As her close confidantes, she couldn't hide her affairs from them and never intended to. Her path wasn't initially glorious and she didn't hope to whitewash at all. Enjoy the present and grow her wealth.

"Ling, I never expected you to visit me directly right after our phone call," Kate said with a helpless sigh. "Especially not like this… setting up an ambush."

Still standing, Ling Qingyu shrugged casually. "Who would expect me to bust you in the act? Hopefully, I didn't interrupt a pleasurable moment and cause trauma on you. I don't want my friend to lose desire for pleasure."

"Can you please stop deviating from the topic Ling. You should have given me a heads up." Kate sought to change topics to save herself from more embarrassment.

"Time doesn't wait, Kate. Some matters shouldn't be procrastinated," Ling Qingyu obliged and got serious.

"You're right," Kate admitted. "But can you confirm whether everything in that email is true?"

Having learned a lesson before, Kate resorted to direct showdown. During the conversation on the phone, she had lost thoroughly and understood the difference between the two. Yet, Ling Qingyu didn't answer immediately.

Instead, she slowly scanned the entire office. Then she raised a finger to her lips, signaling Kate to remain silent.

Kate nearly cursed out loud. Her curiosity was already unbearable—it felt like an itch she desperately needed to scratch, only for someone to suddenly grab her hands and stop her.

"You—"

"Quiet."

Ling Qingyu's tone turned unexpectedly sharp.

From inside her windbreaker pocket, she pulled out a small device—though in reality, it had come from the ancient bracelet's storage space.

She placed it on the desk and pressed the power button.

A signal jammer.

The device emitted a faint croaking hum while a small green light flickered steadily. Ling Qingyu waited a few seconds before finally gesturing for Kate to continue.

"Aren't you going to sit down?" Kate asked with a frown, slightly annoyed that Ling Qingyu remained standing above her.

From that angle, Ling Qingyu was literally looking down at her.

Even sitting in the main chair—designed to project authority—Kate felt surprisingly little control over the situation.

Office layouts for business leaders were never random. The arrangement of chairs, desks, and positions was meant to subtly establish hierarchy during conversations and negotiations.

Even with subordinates, that psychological pressure reinforced authority.

And when dealing with partners or rivals, these details formed part of an invisible diplomatic game—small advantages that could influence high-stakes negotiations.

Yet none of it seemed to work against Ling Qingyu.

She stood casually like an ordinary subordinate, but her nonchalant demeanor completely neutralized the intended effect. It was as if Kate's carefully designed office power dynamic meant nothing at all.

In fact, Kate had the strange feeling that Ling Qingyu might have originally intended to lean lazily against the furniture or rest her hands on the desk while talking.

But perhaps remembering the activities that had taken place there earlier had made her reconsider.

Strangely enough, Kate realized something ironic.

She might actually have to thank her recent office affair.

Because otherwise, Ling Qingyu's already overwhelming presence might have felt even more dominant.

Wait, none of that mattered other than what this device was doing here.

"What's this, Ling?" Kate asked suspiciously.

"Don't you already have a guess? It's exactly what you think—a signal jammer."

"I know it's a jammer, but what do you mean by using it here? Do you not trust me at all?" Kate sounded frustrated.

"No, Kate. I believe in you, but I don't believe you're in total control or aware of everything based on the information I have. Plus, it's a necessary precaution before we speak further," Ling Qingyu explained.

Kate sighed and didn't say more. Ling Qingyu didn't care about her classmate's ego and went straight to the point, abandoning all politeness in order to save Kate's life.

"And just like I suspected, I can already find several tapping devices in your room. I advise you to call an independent company with no connections to you to check and handle this as a long-term plan."

"What?!" Kate jumped up from her seat. "This is impossible!"

"Seems like you don't believe me," Ling Qingyu said with a smile as she headed toward the vase.

She brushed aside the flowers and pulled out a thin wire. Sure enough, a micro eavesdropping device connected to a small battery appeared.

If one didn't pay close attention, no one would have noticed it. Unfortunately, nothing could hide from Ling Qingyu's vision.

In addition to what Tang Ziyi had taught her, she relied more on Athena's gifted spectacles. There were too many functions she hadn't even used in daily life, Ling Qingyu lamented inwardly.

Kate collapsed onto the sofa, lost in thought. She no longer distrusted Ling Qingyu's email.

The truth had been proven right before her eyes. There was a traitor within her circle.

First came sadness over her own overconfidence and trust over her people, then anger.

Yes, fury raged in her heart. The situation meant that the things she had done might have been overheard by others. Who knew whether there was still a hidden camera somewhere?

Although she no longer cared much about her reputation regarding infidelity, it would still be a disaster if someone had been secretly streaming her actions live 4K.

At this moment, killing intent grew stronger and stronger in Kate's heart. The identities of the traitors were still uncertain, but someone clearly intended to endanger her life or at least hurt her business.

"Are there more in this room? Can you find them?" Kate asked.

Facing Kate's pleading gaze, Ling Qingyu clicked her tongue and replied, "Of course there are many bugs in your room."

"Then—"

"Stop looking at me. Hire a third party to clean up your office and inspect the company yourself. I'm telling you right now—I'm not touching anything else in your office. I'm very mysophobic.

"If I hadn't been certain that your session wouldn't involve touching the flowers and the vase, I wouldn't even have bothered."

Kate vomited blood at the outrageous reason. When did Ling Qingyu suffer mysophobic?

She, who followed and studied Ling Qingyu and Astrid out of jealousy to compete, would never fail to know that Ling Qingyu completely lied but she couldn't refute Ling Qingyu's annoying words any further because she remembered that they had indeed been messing around mostly on her office desk earlier.

Nevertheless, as antagonizing as Ling Qingyu's tone sounded, without her visit today, Kate would never have known that her privacy was riddled with holes.

If any secret information had been exploited, her company would suffer tremendously. Even a few pieces of data could give her competitors a decisive edge.

By now, Kate would be a fool if she didn't realize the truth. She had survived the fierce competition because someone merely wanted to monitor and study her before eventually swallowing her entire enterprise after eliminating her.

They could control her using her promiscuous history—even though she personally didn't care much about her image.

Either force her out of the board… or stage an accident.

Her classmate Ling wasn't trying to scare her at all. It was a very real possibility.

With the discovery of the bugs, Kate's trust in Ling Qingyu increased significantly.

Speaking of bugs, Kate glanced at the mini-jammer on the table and suddenly realized something belatedly.

Please, who in the world always carried a signal jammer around everywhere? How insecure were you?

She was completely speechless at Ling Qingyu's behavior. If she hadn't confirmed Ling Qingyu's identity was an entrepreneur, she might have thought she was having a conversation with a high-level spy agent.

Besides, this fellow displayed no signs of taking a seat at all. Kate soon learned how incorrect her decision to discuss her lifelong matters and how uncomfortable it was.

Even though she was defeated outright, she shouldn't be this powerless. She regretted her exposure.

A/N: One chapter I suppose. Gotta recover my sleep again.
