Chapter 85: The Grave Error
Chapter 85: The Grave Error
After getting his instructions, Yun Ming left Wuyi's room without greeting anyone.
Wuyi's two attendants kept going down and up, bringing all the things needed to set up Wuyi's room as he had informed them he planned to stay here for a while.
After the last of the things were brought, the guard pulled the door of Wuyi's room shut and took his position as the guardian of the young master's sanctuary.
Inside, the two attendants, the boy and the girl, hurriedly set up the room for Wuyi. They organized his clothes, placed his personal items neatly on the ornate desk, and ensured that everything was to his liking. Once their task was complete, they left the room.
Wuyi's two attendants were orphaned siblings, Lin and Jia. Their border town had been attacked, their parents killed, and they were left to fend for themselves among a sea of refugees. Wuyi had found them, fed them, and taken them into his service.
During the Journey, Wuyi had made it a point to find and help those who were broken, offering them support and, in return, receiving their unwavering loyalty. He did not need to add everyone to his procession, but these kids were so grateful that they followed him and kept asking to serve him. Finally, he gave in; now he had two personal attendants who watched over his every need.
Wuyi sat on the bed and closed his eyes, entering a state of deep cultivation. He had not grown much in cultivation even after almost two years had passed since summoning his statues. It had taken a great toll on him. He spent every minute feeding them energy. Even if he had not grown in cultivation, the glow on the statues that had disappeared after the first summon, he had recovered most of it.
While Wuyi was deep in meditation, the door to the side room opened.
It was Lin, his female attendant. Behind her were the inn's maids, carrying large vats of hot water for the young master's bath. They poured the water into a large, intricately carved wooden tub. The maids, curious about the noble young master, peeked into the main room.
For this young master, the whole inn was kept empty; they had to be curious.
Lin noticed but said nothing, not wanting to disturb Wuyi's meditation.
Once the maids had finished, Lin ushered them out. Soon after, her brother Jia entered, carrying bags filled with various herbs and perfumes. They both got to work, adding the herbs and aromatic substances to the hot water. The herbs were special, spent a lot of taels on to help Wuyi with his recovery.
Wuyi had made a promise to himself, and he kept it. The promise of living his life nobly and always dressing elegantly. He had achieved his goals. He had paid a steep price for it, but this goal was now concluded for Wuyi.
There were still a lot of dangers lurking everywhere for him, but he was satisfied with his present achievements.
When the bath was ready, Wuyi opened his eyes and rose from his bed. He nodded at Lin and Jia, who bowed and left the room.
Wuyi stepped into the water, feeling an immediate sense of relaxation. The herbs, for which he had spent a good amount of gold, seeped through his pores, aiding the flow of Qi in his body, helping him recover his channels that had overworked during the summoning.
Wuyi decided after his work was done in Yuzhao City, he would go back to trying to cultivate. But he wanted to feed his statues more before he decided to improve his cultivation level.
The grave error he made was he summoned all of them at once. Only if he had summoned only one at a time, the other statues could have shared his burden, and he would have been able to recover within a day or hours. But at the time, to show his strength, he summoned all except one, and the only statue left to share his burden was the statue of Knowledge.
The statue had wisdom but lacked the strength of Wuyi's other statues; this was the reason Wuyi had damaged his channels this badly.
After an hour of meditative bathing, Wuyi rang a small bronze bell. Jia hurried in, helping Wuyi dry off and get dressed. Wuyi donned a luxurious green silk robe, embroidered with golden threads, its sash adorned with jade beads.
Once dressed, Wuyi spoke to Jia, "We should eat. You and Lin should take medicinal baths as well. How is your cultivation?"
Jia replied, "I reached Qi Initiate level 6, while Lin reached level 7."
Wuyi nodded and spoke, "Continue."
Jia nodded and left the room. Wuyi returned to his bed and began absorbing energy for the statues once more.
An hour later, there was a knock on the door. It was Tumu, who announced, "Let us eat; I am very hungry." Wuyi nodded, rising from his bed.
Together, they made their way to the inn's dining hall, to partake in their evening meal. Wuyi might have changed everything about him, but he still savored meals. Food always made him happy, be it food for his statues or food for himself. Being born in a desert tribe had taught him the value of basic needs such as food and clothing.
The inn, boasting over fifty rooms, was only half full due to the arrival of the noble young master and his entourage. The inn had been kept empty prior to their arrival, because of that, the dining area had remained empty until today too. Since the main guests had arrived, all servers and cooks were serving happily to everyone in Wuyi's Entourage.
When Tumu and Wuyi entered the bustling dining hall, they found it teeming with people from their procession. Half of the diners, who were guards from their own procession, immediately stood up and bowed in respect. There were a few other people too—merchants, traders, and other people who had followed them were allowed to stay in the inn too.
Tumu, pleased with the respect of the guards, gestured for them to sit back down and enjoy their meals. The guards complied, resuming their feasting.
