Legend of The Young Master

Chapter 84: Resolving the Lack of Wealth

Chapter 84: Resolving the Lack of Wealth

To the side of the room was a separate bathing area, enclosed by a folding screen of polished cedar. Inside, a large wooden bathtub sat, its interior lined with soft cloths for drying oneself. A variety of aromatic oils were neatly arranged on a wooden shelf nearby, awaiting use.

A large, ornate desk made of special wood sat against one wall, its surface polished to a mirror-like sheen. Beside it was a bookshelf filled with various scrolls and tomes. On the opposite side of the room, a fireplace was set, its mantle adorned with small statues of jade and ivory. A crystal lantern hung from the ceiling, casting a warm, inviting glow throughout the room.

Adjacent to the main room was a smaller chamber, furnished with simple cots and a wooden table. This was clearly meant for the guards and attendants, allowing them to stay close to their young master while affording him privacy.

One of the young master's attendants turned to the foolish-looking man and spoke, "Master Tumu, the young master will require a bath, followed by a meal. Ensure that nothing is lacking."

Tumu turned to the innkeeper.

The innkeeper, in return, bowed deeply and hurried off to make the necessary preparations.

As the innkeeper took his leave, the young master, Wuyi, walked over to the window. He stared out at the sprawling city of Yuzhao, captivated by the setting sun that painted the horizon in hues of orange and red.

Once the innkeeper left, Tumu nonchalantly jumped onto the plush bed. Wuyi turned to look at him, and his attendant, the young girl, spoke up, "Master Tumu, please..."

Tumu sighed, rising from the bed. "Alright, alright, I'll go. I'll come back when you're ready."

Wuyi spoke, "How are things? Everything is settled?"

Tumu nodded, "They think I bought the inn, not you. I am the owner. You are just a very special guest."

Wuyi nodded and spoke, "Keep it empty, don't take customers. Soon a few more residents will arrive."

Tumu nodded, then turned to walk away. On his way back, he met Yun Ming entering Wuyi's room. Tumu gave him a deep smile. Yun Ming just nodded and then entered.

At the door, Tumu met the other new bodyguards of Wuyi, the scar-faced woman, and the towering man from the desert tribes who stood at six feet.

Tumu sighed. It had been more than two years since they left Lujingbao as a trio: Wuyi, Tumu, and Yun Ming. Now, he had many followers.

"One of you can guard the door, and the other can get some rest," Tumu considered himself superior to everyone except Wuyi and Yun Ming.

Over the years, Wuyi had spent some time working on Tumu with the statue of knowledge. He was still a simple fool on many things, but when it came to Wuyi's interests, he had started to become wise. But still, in other things, his mind stayed the same. As one of the first companions of Wuyi, Tumu liked bossing people around a bit, but he knew his limits.

The scar-faced woman nodded. "I will get some rest," she said, leaving the tribal warrior to guard the door.

In the meantime, Yun Ming entered Wuyi's room for instructions. Yun Ming did not like to pry into Wuyi's business, but he was still not sure why they bought an inn in a random city and then came all the way here when they had just bought a noble title and planned to settle near the territories of their noble estate. All of Wuyi's guards had the same question, but no one dared to ask.

When Yun Ming entered, he was expecting a complicated mission, but Wuyi only tasked him with understanding the terrain near the fort. Yun Ming was curious about the reason but did not question Wuyi. He knew Wuyi must have an important goal; he wouldn't ask his most trusted Qi adept to study the terrain for no reason.

Typically, when Wuyi requested something like understanding the terrain, it meant they were either going to feed Wuyi's summons by sacrificing some Qi warriors or planning a robbery. However, that was during their journey; this city was their final destination. Wuyi had specifically purchased an inn here for their stay.

So, Wuyi's goal was neither simple robbery nor devouring; he had something more complex in mind.

After receiving the noble title and purchasing numerous luxurious noble items to maintain the pretense, Wuyi realized he was running low on wealth. He was contemplating how to acquire more wealth. Even with his past life's experience as an accountant and a good understanding of trade and business, earning more would require investment and a lengthy process.

However, he did not want to waste his precious time on gold taels.

Not able to figure out the answer, Wuyi asked his guide, the statue of knowledge, and the answer that the statue gave him almost made him facepalm. It was so simple; he had been overthinking it.

The Statue of Knowledge informed Wuyi that, as a Qi adept with the cheat of the statue of shadows capable of deceiving even Qi masters, he should not encounter problems related to mortal wealth.

Wuyi realized how foolish he sometimes becomes. After that, he asked Yun Ming and Meiying to find a few rich traders as targets, and he cleaned them out without a single person finding it out.

Over the course of their journey too, they passed through many noble clans and merchants. If they found out that the clans were not strong enough, Wuyi would stop by to take their wealth and devour some Qi warriors in the clan. He did not try to mess with many clans, as most had Qi adept or above patriarchs. So, his targets were generally rich merchants or traders.

Because of this, the depleting wealth problem that Wuyi had came to a halt. Now he was living the life of a successful young master in the true sense. In one year, he had earned back almost all the amount he spent acquiring the noble title and luxuries of nobility.
