Chapter 86: Meal & Mission
Chapter 86: Meal & Mission
Tumu led the way to an empty table and took a seat. Wuyi sat opposite him. Lin and Jia, the attendants, took seats at a smaller table adjacent to theirs. Behind them sat their towering six-foot guard, Zhen.
Soon, the innkeeper himself arrived to serve them personally, as Tumu, in fact, was the owner of the inn.
Tumu, in a generous mood, ordered a variety of dishes for himself: Scale Dumplings, Feather Noodles, and Tiger Soup. He also requested a large vat of Plum Wine.
After noting down Tumu's lavish order, the innkeeper turned his attention to Wuyi. Wuyi glanced at Tumu, as if prompting him.
Realizing his oversight, Tumu cleared his throat and said, "Half a Lotus Chicken, Tofu, and Rice for the young master." He paused, then asked, "Would you like some wine?"
Wuyi shook his head. Tumu nodded and added, "Bring him some special Cloud Tea from the north to accompany the meal."
The innkeeper nodded and retreated. Soon, other servers approached Lin and Jia to take their orders. They chose more modest meals: Bamboo Shoot Chicken Soup and Earthroot Noodles.
When it was Zhen's turn to order, he didn't hold back. He requested a feast as extravagant as Tumu's, including dishes like Pork Ribs and Honey Glazed Bamboo Shoots, Ginseng Whole Chicken. He also ordered a large vat of Wine for himself.
While Zhen was in the midst of ordering his food, Meiying, the scar-faced female, entered the dining hall and took a seat opposite him. Zhen promptly changed his order to include two vats of wine.
Most of Zhen's duties were assigned by Meiying, making her his superior. Upon seeing him order extravagant wine, Meiying frowned and asked, "How will you watch over the young master if you're drunk?"
Zhen shrugged. "We've been traveling for months; a little extravagance is needed. Besides, I have a high tolerance for wine. The second vat is for you. You are here with us; who will try to fight you?"
Meiying, being a Qi adept, was very powerful among all the guards, and she was a stone-cold killer. She killed without second thoughts and did not listen even to Yun Ming; the only person she ever listened to was Wuyi.
"I'm not drinking," Meiying retorted. "What if enemies attack the young master and you're incapacitated?"
Zhen was unfazed. "The Young Master has no enemies here. Even if he did, I'd kill them all—wine or no wine. If I did not kill the enemies, you will, and if not you, Yun Ming will. If Yun Ming fails, the young master will kill them himself."
They all knew Wuyi had a higher cultivation than them because Wuyi was the one helping them break through every minor level at present.
Meiying frowned, "Why should the Young Master sully his hands?"
Zhen shrugged his shoulders.
Giving up, Meiying said, "You're too full of yourself. Someday you'll pay for your carelessness. I'll keep the night watch."
Zhen disagreed. "No need. The Young Master has some work for you and the guards."
This surprised Meiying. Wuyi rarely spoke to anyone except Yun Ming or Meiying.
"How do you know?" Meiying inquired.
"Tumu told me. He told me to ask you to visit the Young Master's room after the meal," Zhen whispered slowly.
For some reason, Meiying's face flushed red. Wuyi always called her for missions, so it was nothing new, but the way Zhen whispered it sounded like something else. Seeing cold-hearted Meiying flushed, Zhen almost laughed out loud, but realizing the Young Master was sitting nearby and Meiying was a Qi adept, a cold-hearted killer, he kept his amusement to himself.
Curiosity piqued, just like Yun Ming, Meiying wondered what the task might be; they were in a new city, and the young master always has some plans. They had traveled a very long distance to visit this city. The task had to be very special. But she decided not to overthink this.
Soon, their meals arrived, and everyone began to eat. Tumu was the first to finish, but he ordered more vats of wine. Wuyi's attendants, Lin and Jia, finished their meal soon. Wuyi took his time, but all waited for him patiently.
When Wuyi was done and decided to leave, Meiying, who hadn't finished her meal, left her food half-eaten and followed them because of her curiosity about what orders the young master had for her.
Wuyi returned to his room and closed the door, leaving Lin, Jia, and Meiying outside. He stared out of the window at the bustling Yuzhao City below, his eyes eventually settling on Yuzhao Fort, which sat atop the city. He rang a small bronze bell, and Lin entered the room.
"Tell Meiying to come and ask her to bring her men too," Wuyi instructed.
Lin bowed and exited the room. Twenty minutes later, Meiying was standing in Wuyi's room, awaiting his orders.
She had brought five warriors that listened to her orders.
Wuyi surveyed the room, his gaze falling upon each of his five Qi warriors: Qian, Rui, Shen, Tao, and Yuei. All but Yuei were at the Qi Initiate level three; Yuei, a hard worker, had reached Qi Initiate level five. They all reported to Meiying, and each of these five commanded a unit of two or three men.
Wuyi had invested considerable effort in recruiting them, investing in their cultivation, guiding them in cultivation, deeply reaching out to them through the statue of Harmony, ensuring their loyalty and competence.
"Our objective is twofold," Wuyi began, his voice nonchalant. "First, we must acquire the map of Yuzhao Fortress and gain access to its dungeon. This fortress is one of the Huo Clan's most secure locations, but more importantly, its dungeon is housing important prisoners. Second, we aim to do something that is personally very important to me."
Wuyi paused, his gaze shifting toward the imposing silhouette of Yuzhao Fortress visible through the window. He said, "You have four weeks to prepare. Although we will execute our plan as soon as everything is ready, the dungeon is actually owned by the empire, and the Huo clan is a subordinate clan of the Imperial family. This situation could lead to severe repercussions if not handled correctly.
In the third week, send the people out to purchase some horses. Keep the horses at the inn and the coaches outside the city. When you start bringing in our guests, divide them into small groups."
