Chapter 357: Hope, Fear
Kate, who had just stood up, momentarily froze as she looked at Michael with a shocked expression on her face.
Her expression was full of disbelief, as she just could not understand what Michael was implying.
It was only recently that she was exposed to the presence of mutants. But even then, during the few days that she was in the training camp, after taking the mutation serum, she had been briefed about mutants.
Since she had officially joined the organization, she had access to much more information as compared to before. Therefore, she had learned about the mutants that existed, and what they could do.
Even though there was a variety of abilities that were possessed by the mutants, she had never found any record of any ability that could allow person to be able to revive others.
As she was still thinking about this, Michael looked at her and understood what she was thinking about. He explained, "The meteors that fell into this world, they came from somewhere.
I believe that there is a possibility of the existence of other civilizations outside this world. If that is the case, there is a great probability that there exists greater abilities out there.
I hope to bring back my parents to life, and at that time, I will do the same with your father. I cannot guarantee it at the moment, but I’m working on it."
Of course, the reason why Michael believed that there existed other civilizations out of this world was simply because of the system.
The system was obviously not something that was created in this world. The abilities possessed by this system were just way above the level of the technology that could be found in this world.
Additionally, the items that could be found within the system store, some of them only existed in this world in the form of wild imaginations.
If there was a probability that this system had been created by another civilization out there, then the level of that civilization would definitely be extremely high. Maybe they could possess an ability of bringing someone back to life?
As he thought about this, he remembered some of the movies that he had watched back in the days. Some of the abilities that could bring back people to life seemed to have some kind of limitations.
But in any case, both of their parents were just ordinary people. So, those techniques should work on them, right?
Kate on the other hand was momentarily stunned upon hearing Michael’s words. At this point, she felt that this world, she was just a stranger.
From her perspective before meeting Michael, this world was full of gangsters. She hated them, and was usually yearning for revenge.
But with Michael’s appearance, things changed. The skills and abilities that he demonstrated, they just did not match his age. She was quite suspicious of him, though, she never thought of any possibility that Michael might have been a mutant.
At that time, she did not even know about the existence of mutants. So, it was impossible for her to relate Michael to a mutant.
But when Michael asked her about an ability that she would like, she began having her suspicions. And eventually, during the serum injection, when she gained the ability that she had talked to Michael about, she realized, Michael was a mutant.
Just as she was still getting used to the fact that there was another side of this world that she had never been exposed to, Michael exposed something even more shocking to her.
Yes, with the current technology, there were reports of scientists going to the moon. There were even other reports that governments of different countries were exploring the other planets within the planetary system.
But so far, there were no reports about the existence of any other civilizations out of this world. Probably, with her current connections and abilities, it would be impossible for her to be able to get that information even if it existed.
As usual, governments kept things like this as a secret, making it impossible for ordinary people to be able to know about them. It would be only during the times that things blew out of proportion that the ordinary folks would know about it.
Despite this, upon thinking about what Michael had said, she believed him. What he had demonstrated, it was enough to tell her that there was a possibility that other civilizations existed out there.
Since that was the case, then, she latched onto this hope. No matter how small the possibility was, she believed that they might be able to find a way to be able to bring their parents back to life.
Hence, she resolutely nodded her head at Michael, as she revealed a faint smile while saying, "I will hold on to that promise. If there is any time that you need my assistance, I will do everything within my power to help out."
Michael had not anticipated that Kate would believe him so easily. But then again, he smiled as he responded, "Then make sure to tightly hold onto that."
After chatting a little bit longer, the two of them finally headed for the basement. And the moment that they got to the room that Bob was locked in, Kate took a very deep breath.
Seemingly, she was trying to calm her emotions down, when facing the person who had killed her father.
Michael had it easy though, because he realized that he could control his emotions much better as compared to before. Maybe this was related to some of the skills that he had learned through the clones?
It was only after Michael realized that Kate was okay that he finally opened the door.
As the door swung open, Bob, who was sitting on the floor, immediately looked up. At first, he was panicked. But his expression shifted the moment that he realized who it was that had entered.
It was true, he could not remember what had happened during the time that he came here with Gregory. At that time, Michael had wiped out that section of memory from Bob’s mind.
That was exactly why he could never tell anyone what had happened. He could remember coming to the villa, but he could not remember what had happened inside.
But this was not his first visit here. Initially, he came alone, and was asking Michael to leave the country. Of course, Michael rejected him, which forced Bob to leave.
The next time that he came back, it was when he was asked to come back by Newton. At that time, he was allowed to come with Gregory, who was a mutant.
Now, looking at Michael, at first, Bob was confused. He could not understand why Michael was here, and if he was related to the person that had brought him here.
And as he was wondering about this, his gaze landed on Kate, but he could not recognize her. But looking into those eyes, he could clearly feel that Kate had murderous intent towards him.
Having served under Newton for years, Bob had obviously gotten himself involved in many fights, and had killed quite a number of people. So, he was quite perceptive when someone showed killing intent was him.
It was just that Bob was kind of confused about why this lady would have killing intent towards him. No matter how much he thought about it, he could not remember ever encountering this lady.
On the other hand, Michael’s presents here, he could not explain it. Not even in his wildest dreams did he ever imagine that Michael might have figured out that he was the one that was involved with the death of his parents.
Additionally, the thing had been completely cleared up with the Santos family, with his identity as a spy from the Blood Reapers syndicate already revealed.
"Michael, are you the one who asked for me to be brought here?" Gathering his courage, Bob asked in a slightly trembling voice.
Michael did not bother to respond. Instead, he looked at Kate and said, "Should I deal with him, or should I leave him for you to deal with? For me, I don’t necessarily have to deal with him, because he is not the mastermind for my case.
He was just a pawn, used by someone else. Anyway, it is only just a matter of time before I go looking for the mastermind."
Kate initially hesitated, but eventually, the determination in her mind grew. She nodded resolutely and said, "Okay, I will deal with him personally."
While the two of them were conversing with each other, Bob was left confused. He could not understand anything that the two of them were saying.
But as he thought about what Michael had said, his heart suddenly skip the beat. At the same time, a thought emerged in his mind, could it be possible that Michael already knew that he was from the Blood Reapers syndicate?
In the next moment though, he immediately refuted this. He thought, there was a possibility that Michael thought that he was just a pawn of the Santos family.
The issue of him being related to the Blood Reapers syndicate was something that he had kept hidden. Not even the Santos family could easily figure that out, even if they had suspicions.
Just as he was still contemplating about this, Kate suddenly approached him. At this moment, she wanted to torture this guy so much, so that he could experience the pain that she had experienced after her father passed away.
But at the same time, she just felt irritated looking at him. She wanted to eliminate him immediately. With the strength that she had, it would only take a few strikes before he died.
In just a few seconds, she was already in front of Bob, who, with the trembling voice, asked, "W-what do you want to do to me?"
