Chapter 351: Team Formed
Chapter 351: Team Formed
7th October 2025...
It was already the fourth day since all the recruits decided on the team that they would be joining. Since Kate had decided to join Alex’s team, she would no longer need to remain with the Delta team, which was under Peter.
Previously, before Alex decided to make the decision of creating his own team, the recruits would continue staying within team Delta, undergo training, gain experience, before finally going to the other teams or branches.
Usually, this is done so that by the time that the new recruits joined the other teams or branches, they would have the required experience to carry out the missions.
Since most of the missions nowadays involve dealing with mutants, it implied that a person could die at any moment during the mission.
There was a great possibility of a newbie costing their teammates their lives with just a single rookie mistake.
That was exactly why at the very start, they would start by dealing with low risk missions, where, even if one made a mistake, they would not have to pay the price with their lives.
But as time goes on, the danger involved in the missions would continuously increase, to the extent that the final mission of the delta team would be to deal with a situation where if they were reckless, they would end up dying.
Of course, that was just the trend, how things were usually handled. But now, since Kate and Lina had decided to join Alex’s team, they would have to wait for Alex to complete the registration and so on first.
So, for the past few days, they had been staying within the training camp, waiting for Alex. And finally, today, early in the morning, Alex came over, having already completed all the required procedures.
Even though he looked kind of exhausted, Kate and Lina could easily tell that this guy was happy.
And they were right about that. Alex was excited about the fact that everything had gone well, until he had finally established the team. Even though he had been previously given the permission, without creating the team, without recruiting members, it would be impossible for him to be able to create a team of his own.
As for why he decided to form his own team instead of joining the other three teams in the combat branch, he had his own reasons. One of them being the fact that he did not like being controlled.
While he was strong, he was not the strongest within the organization. And in the combat branch, it was always a matter of who was stronger than the other. The stronger a person was, the higher their authority would be.
In the other branches, it mostly depended on the skills that a person had. If someone was more skilled, they would obviously hold a higher position.
Something else that made Alex want to create his own team was that he wanted full control over the operations of the team. Some of the rules of the other teams did not suit him, someone who was usually carefree.
Being given the chance to create his own team, that implied that he could create his own rules. But of course, there were some of the rules that had to be followed by all the members of NEXUS.
As he looked at the two ladies in front of him, especially Kate, Alex nodded continuously. He could tell, it seemed that the two had been adapting to the abilities that they had awakened during the past few days.
According to the information that he had gotten, it seemed that Kate was so much into working out, doing this continuously for several hours.
Everyday, she would wake up very early in the morning, before going to the gym. There, she would work out for quite a while, before using the other facilities within the training camp.
And something that he had noticed through watching the footage of her training, it was the fact that she was continuously getting stronger.
Of course, Alex did not believe that she was getting stronger. It was just that, she was adapting to her strength, something that he really appreciated.
As for Lina, Alex had nothing to say about her. After all, the ability that she had did not need her to work out. Additionally, out of all the recruits that had joined the training camp this time, she was the strongest.
Even until now, Alex was not sure how strong she was as compared to ordinary people. Of course, he did not believe that Lina could handle mutants who had received physical enhancements.
"Okay, are you ladies ready to go out? For my team, there will be no restrictions, apart from something like making sure that all the information related to the organization are kept confidential." Alex asked with an excited voice.
At first, Lina and Kate looked at him, surprised. But in the next moment, they felt a little excited. If they were not going to be too restricted, then that would be great.
That was especially for Kate, who was yearning for more time so that she could train more intensely.
Ever since she had awakened her ability, and experienced how she could get stronger, she was addicted to this feeling.
If not for the fact that she had to rest, she would have worked out for 24 hours a day. She did not need to worry about the lack of energy, as the energy bars that Lina was providing were enough to sustain her for an entire 24 hours of training.
Another thing that made her more amazed was the fact that she had gained more abilities recently. That was especially the ability to see at night.
At the moment, it had not yet reached the extent where she could clearly see at night, just as she could during the day. But even then, at the moment, in the darkness, she could see some of the things, though not very clearly.
A good example would be a situation where a person is inside a tunnel, with lights inside. But those lights are not bright, kind of dim, almost the same amount of light provided by a single candle inside a room, the place far away from the location of the candle.
Another thing that she noticed was the fact that her body was adapting to something. She was not sure how to explain this, but she realized that the amount of energy that she required for daily training was reducing.
Even though she was continuously increasing the intensity of her training, she was not overdoing it, because she was trying to make sure that she would not be suspected by anyone within the training camp.
But even then, she no longer needed to eat at least 3 energy bars on a daily basis. Instead, she just needed 2 and a half energy bars, to complete her daily training.
Even though the speed at which her body was adapting to this energy preservation or something like that, was getting slower, she believed that eventually, she might be able to reduce the amount of energy needed to just that amount provided by 2 energy bars.
Something that she was much grateful about was the fact that this ability knew its limits. Otherwise, if her body suddenly adapted to the extent that she could not even taste food, how awful would that be?
Alex looked at the expressions of the two ladies, and he could tell that they were happy about the fact that he could give them the freedom.
Satisfaction within the team was something that Alex yearned for. As long as everyone was satisfied, and there were no conflicts within the team, it would be much easier to be able to carry out the missions.
Even though the instances of betrayal were quite low, that did not imply that they did not exist. If a team had members who were on good terms with each other, they could avoid a situation where someone would betray the others.
"Okay, first up, I’m going to give you a break. You have been here for over a month now, so, I’m going to give you a month off. During this month, you are allowed to go back home, to your relatives and friends.
You can stay with them, do what you want, but you have to remember the rules of the organization. No matter what, you are not allowed to reveal anything related to the organization.
I believe that before you came here, an arrangement had already been made about how you would explain your absence. Make sure to remember that, to avoid suspicion." Alex nodded as he explained.
Kate and Lina looked at each other, stunned. Neither of them had anticipated that Alex would actually give them an entire month off.
The most excited one here was Kate. With an entire month to herself, not only would she be able to train without restrictions, but she could also meet those that she had missed.
Even though it had only been a month ever since she left home, she had missed her mother, her grandparents, and more than that, Michael.
She realized, the further away she was from him, the more she longed for his presence. Even though they had not interacted that much, but most of the interactions that they had had were quite memorable.
Just as he thought about meeting those that she yearned for, a smile subtly appeared on her lips. Lina noticed and nudged Kate slightly as she smiled mischievously at her, bringing her back to her senses.
"One more thing, I noticed that you seemed to have some conflict with that Evan guy? I’ll need to give you a heads up." Alex suddenly spoke, catching the attention of the two ladies.
