Chapter 352: Warning
Chapter 352: Warning
"Huh?" Kate was surprised when she heard Alex’s words. She looked at him, slightly confused, waiting for him to continue.
Seeing that Kate was looking at him, Alex stated with a solemn expression on his face, "Even though that Evan guy died during the time that he was receiving the injection, that does not imply that the conflict between you and him has ended.
Previously, it was because of a conflict between you and him that it led to him being dismissed from the training camp.
But this guy has an elder brother, who holds quite a high position within the organization. His brother spent almost all of his merit points in order to allow Evan back to the training camp.
Normally, according together the organization, once someone was dismissed from the training camp, they could not return.
This is a rule that nobody within the organization can break, including the current commander of the organization.
But, there is an exception. For all the members of the organization, each successful mission completion or contribution to the organization earns merit points.
The merit points can be used to exchange for quite a number of things from within the organization, including information and some of the items that cannot be found out of the organization.
But of course, the merit points can also be used to make a request within the organization. As long as the request is within the acceptable range, it would be granted.
So, Evan’s brother used his merit points in order to request for Evan to be given a chance once again. This was something that was approved, which was why that guy came back to the training camp.
But now, with him dying, it is clear that his brother, who always dotted on him, would be furious. At the moment, he is out on a mission, which is why he has not shown up in front of you.
But believe me, it would not be long before he comes looking for you. While you were not the one who had killed his brother, you still would be blamed.
That guy is kind of unreasonable at times, especially concerning his brother. He might not blame you for the death of his brother, but he will definitely blame you for the loss of the merit points that he had used in order to bring his brother back to the training camp.
You never know, he might even claim that it was because of you that he wasted merit points, only for his brother to die?"
Listening to Alex’s explanation, Kate and Lina immediately understood the personality of Evan’s brother. It turned out to be someone who was overly protective of his brother, and could be unreasonable at times.
And judging by the way that Alex was speaking, it was clear that this guy was not weaker than Alex. Most probably, he was even stronger than him.
That might be exactly why Alex was giving Kate a warning. Even though they were within the organization, and there were rules, nobody could tell what would happen during the time that they were out on a mission.
Rules were there, but humans were the ones that were supposed to follow them. Who could guarantee that all of them would follow the rules honestly?
Since the establishment of this organization, despite how strict the screening process of the recruits was done, inevitably, there would be some betrayal cases over the years.
Some of the people were bought after joining the organization, while others had hidden themselves quite deeply. Others developed grudges with each other after joining the organization and so on.
Thereby, it was impossible to completely avoid conflicts among the members of the NEXUS organization. While they did not fight overtly, that did not imply that they did not do something secretly.
Despite understanding that she had created an enemy, though not deliberately, Kate was not the least bit flustered.
If it was before she got the ability, she might have been overwhelmed by thoughts of what she was supposed to do.
But now, with this ability, it was only a matter of time before she became strong. Additionally, since Evan’s brother did not have the ability of giving Evan a mutation serum that was safe like Michael did for her, there was a possibility that his influence and power could not be compared to Michael’s.
Regardless, Kate had no any intention of depending on Michael in order to solve this problem. After all, she had created it herself, even though she was not the one who had been unreasonable.
If not for that guy being unreasonable with her, wanting her to be his girlfriend by force, this matter would not have escalated to the extent that he was expelled from the training camp.
As for his death during the serum injection, what did that have to do with her? It was not as though she was the one who had made him die, or maybe, added some kind of poison into the serum, right?
Still, she thought, since she was being allowed by Alex to go back and have her own time, she would dedicate most of it to training.
As long as she intensified her training regimen, she would be able to get stronger. And maybe by the time that she encountered Evan’s brother, she would be strong enough to be able to deal with him.
But of course, that was if he came looking for her directly. But if he used underhanded tricks, as long as she was strong enough, she would be able to handle them as well.
Thinking about this, she asked, "About the off, when does it start?"
Kate was already getting impatient. If she could be allowed to leave today, she would be excited. She would meet with her mother, grandfather, and most of all, Michael.
After spending some time with them, she would go to work out. Good thing, this ability of hers was quite overpowered. It allowed her to be able to improve on the very same day that she was working out.
She did not have to grind like all the other people in the gym, just so that they could get stronger. It was all just a matter of allowing her body to experience the strain, so that it could adapt to it.
While Kate was thinking about going back home to immediately start training, Alex perceived this differently. Her question and tone made him think that she was frightened, and was thinking of running away.
In the end, he sighed as he said, "You don’t need to think too much about this. I just wanted to inform you about this matter. But don’t worry, since you are part of my team, I will never allow anyone to touch you.
So, you can do your thing freely. On the other hand, I will find a way of dealing with that guy. You can just relax, I can promise, nothing will happen."
Despite realizing that Alex had misunderstood her, Kate simply nodded, not willing to explain. Yet, she still waited for Alex to tell her when she would be allowed to go back.
Seeing the way that Kate was looking at him, Alex immediately understood what she was thinking. With a wry smile on his face, he said, "I have already made the application, so you can leave right now. But remember, you only have a month.
After a month, I will come looking for you myself, and take you out on the first mission. So, during this time, while relaxing, you should be preparing yourselves mentally, to tackle your first mission."
Even though he was disappointed that Kate did not seem to trust his words, he thought, he would just have to put in some effort. In any case, he would not allow anyone to touch his subordinates.
Both Kate and Lina nodded upon hearing this. Since they could leave immediately, they thought, the moment that Alex allowed them to leave, they would do so.
"Okay, I won’t take more of your time. Remember, the month starts today. After exactly 31 days, I will come looking for you." Alex said as he waved, before he turned around and left.
The moment that he left, the two ladies that were still on the training ground looked at each other. It was clear, it was time to part for quite a while.
Having spent over a month together, they had established quite some deep bonds. That was especially with Lina providing Kate with energy bars.
This was something that had left Kate quite puzzled. Thinking about it, ever since they had met, it seemed that Lina was the one who had been giving her quite a number of things and helping her out.
It seemed, if there was a chance in the future, she would have to make sure that she repaid her. She might not be able to do it now, but if she was strong enough, maybe there would be a chance for her to do that.
"So, who are you going to see first? Your mom, or your boyfriend?" Lina suddenly asked with a mischievous smile on her face.
"Huh?" Kate was caught completely off guard by that question. She had anticipated that Lina would say something, but not this.
She had expected Lina to say something about where she was going to, and if they should meet before the day that Alex would come looking for them. But this girl, she was already teasing her.
Ever since Lina knew about Michael, she had always taken every chance possible to tease her about him. But truthfully speaking, Kate had never found this annoying.
In fact, she realized, it was because of this kind of teasing that had led to her fondness of Michael to grow. It was no wonder that she missed him so much.
Completely disregarding the question asked by Lina, Kate asked, "So, where will you be going during this one month? Wanna go back with me for a while, maybe just a day, visit my home, before going to your place?"
