Chapter 96: Humanity Traitor
Chapter 96: Humanity Traitor
Carter wiped the potion off his lips. His breathing barely calmed down from the excessive attack. Even the Healing and Mana Potions didn’t help him recover entirely. His mind was still having a headache.
’This attack feels different. It isn’t just a physical attack. It relates to the soul. That’s why my mind is so messed up right now.’
Carter had the Will of Steel as an Elite Ability. Without it, he might have gone crazy. Carter made a mental note to gather more soul related powers or skin.
[SYSTEM GHOST EQUIPPED]
With his extremely sensitive hearing, he could already hear the vehicles outside the building. He needed to hack this core quick and got out of there.
Carter approached the Red Core and placed his hands on it. Being physically near it lowered the hacking difficult several times. Carter could penetrate into its mainframe now.
’This is... a Transformation Core.’
Cyber Core was used to surveil and control Cyber Slaves. Transformation Core had the ability to manipulate machine and created a desirable function based on the will of the user.
It was not omnipotent as its power was limited in the Awaken Rank. But Carter already have a few ideas on how he could make use of it.
[Synchronization +50.0%]
[Current Synchronization]: 167.0%
’Sheesh! That’s a lot of Synchronization. It is reasonable after all. A Peak Awaken piece of Technology.’
[Added x1 Transformation Core to System Ghost’s item]
[ELDRITCH SKELETON KNIGHT EQUIPPED]
Return as the Skeleton Knight, Carter shot out a green Necron Web and pulled himself out of the building. The ceiling was long gone so there wasn’t anything to affect him.
"There it is!" A soldier shouted.
They aimed their guns toward Carter. Bright yellow bullets bombarded him. But they were purely physical attack. His Wanderer Cloak neutralized all of the bullets.
Carter landed on the trees and saw Atsuo.
’Sneaky politician.’
The Knight pointed his finger at President Nakamura. His deep voice echoed for everyone to hear.
"Humanity traitor." He left that sentence behind before pulling himself away and disappeared.
"Follow him! Don’t let that thing go away!" Atsuo shouted.
People were giving him weird looks. What was ’Humanity traitor’ supposed to mean? They didn’t know. And they were afraid of finding out. This President may not be what he said he was.
Atsuo hurriedly went into the secret facility to check. Everything was in ruin and the Transformation Core disappeared.
Atsuo fell to his knees, "No! Humanity’s last hope is gone!"
The attack couldn’t escape the media. They broadcast the attack just a few hours later. They didn’t know much about what truly happening and framed it toward the Terror.
The leaders of Hexilia knew better. They knew Atsuo was planning something. A way to combat the Terror. And the burning facility was a core component.
They quickly hosted a secret meeting to understand the situation.
"So? Are you going to tell us what exactly happened?"
The President of the Islands spoke. This leader was the head of a group of scattered islands right below the East Continent.
Atsuo inhaled deeply then turned on the monitor.
"See for yourself." Atsuo said.
In the recordings, a Skeleton attacked the camera and caused it to break.
"That’s it?" General Dragovic said.
"This thing is highly intelligent. It deleted all the recordings except for that."
"What could it be? A new kind of Terror?" Another President said. This one wore all white clothes. He led the cold North Continent.
Carter pushed the door open. "He isn’t a Terror."
The Presidents looked over to Zeneros Blackburn.
"Who allowed you to come in here?" Atsuo frowned.
"I did."
Carter grabbed President Nakamura and threw him to the ground.
Everyone stood up, except for General Dragovic. He smirked deeply.
"What are you doing?! This is treason!" President Nakamura got up and shouted.
"I’m not your Continent’s citizen, Atsuo. Beside, if it’s treason, it should be you who committed that crime."
"What are you..." Atsuo said.
"That thing that you saw on the screen is not a Terror." Carter said. "It’s an Eldritch Knight."
"No way!"
"Why did he attack us?"
"Why is he a skeleton?"
Carter raised a hand to silent the leaders. "Allow me to explain."
"He is an Eldritch Knight but his vow is different than me. He vowed to keep his words in this life and the next. This vow has caused him... To continue being an Eldritch Knight even after his death."
The leaders were shock. Some widened their eyes. Some skipped a heartbeat. A few just couldn’t imagine how a vow could do such a thing.
"An Eldritch Knight’s vow is a sacred thing. They aren’t just words. They have power. And that Knight vowed three things.
To kill all enemies of humanity.
To expose all traitors of humanity.
And to avenge any wronged souls.
He has determined that Atsuo is a traitor."
"This is nonsense! I would never betray humanity."
Carter smiled gently. "General Dragovic. Why don’t you take it from here?"
Samuel nodded. The General stood up. His jacket flapped like a cape.
"You must already know that the West Continent do not have a President. The power of our continent is split between me, the High General, Doctor Bruce Avaline, the High Scientist, and Dwayne Xolotl, the High Trader.
Zeneros here has asked me to investigate a few thing that our ally, President Nakamura here, has been using. Come in, Dr. Avaline."
As General Dragovic finished his sentence. Dr. Avaline entered with a corpse of an Undead Cyborg. They wheeled the corpse in and left it in the middle of the room.
Dr. Avaline adjusted his glasses. Atsuo’s eyes darkened but he wasn’t afraid.
"Do you care to explain for us what this is, President Nakamura?" Dr. Avaline said.
"It is a Cyborg." Atsuo said.
"What?!"
"Our technology isn’t there yet. How did you accomplish this?"
"A functional cyborg that can be used on the battlefield?"
Atsuo adjusted his collar. "Please. One question at a time. I will explain everything."
Carter leaned over the pole and witnessed Atsuo’s last chance of redemption.
General Dragovic stood next to him, "He still doesn’t understand why he is a traitor."
"That’s the most dangerous thing another invader can do to us." Carter whispered. "They make us think that they are our ally."
