Chapter 244 : Bad News
Chapter 244 : Bad News
Lin Nan lowered her head and obediently ate the mushy fried rice.
She raised her head to glance at Chen Yao who she'd kicked to the ground, snorting heavily. This guy was still playing pitiful on the ground and refusing to get up.
"I'm done eating. You eat the rest." Lin Nan stood up and also brought the remaining half bowl of fried rice to Chen Yao's plate. Humming, she turned and entered the bedroom.
Only at this point did Chen Yao grumble and climb up. Though he'd taken a kick, it didn't seem like a loss?
He rubbed his cheek, always suspecting that this kick from Lin Nan had ruined his face.
However, he only just realized Lin Nan's body flexibility was actually quite good. She'd raised her foot that high with her body not wavering at all, the force fierce and fast, leaving him with no time to react before being kicked to the ground.
That foot was really beautiful.
He wasn't angry at all. Instead, his whole head was full of Lin Nan's raised foot.
He was a bit tempted to betray the leg fetish camp and transfer to the foot fetish camp.
After eating, Chen Yao obediently scrubbed the wok once through, briefly rinsed the dishes and threw them in the dishwasher, then carried his laptop to the living room.
He'd always had the habit of making videos online. But during the semester, because dubbing in the dorm was too shameful, his videos had changed from LOL instructional content to daily life recordings.
Fortunately, Lin Nan's crossdressing video from summer vacation had gained him quite a few followers. Otherwise, with his current video quality, he'd definitely lose a lot of fans.
He glanced at Lin Nan in the bedroom, hugged his laptop, looked at the already-edited video, opened the script dialogue, and started talking to himself into the microphone.
Chen Yao had only been recording voiceover in the living room for about ten minutes when he discovered Lin Nan couldn't stay in the room anymore. Every so often she'd poke her little head out from the bedroom to observe, her eyes full of curiosity.
Half an hour later, he suddenly realized Lin Nan was somehow lying beside him, hands supporting her chin, eyes bright as she stared at him.
The voiceover couldn't continue. Chen Yao helplessly looked down at the girl beside him. "What are you doing?"
"Watching."
"If you're so bored, go play on the computer."
"I feel a bit uncomfortable and don't want to play on the computer. What's wrong with watching!"
Chen Yao's mouth twitched. He reached out and pressed down on Lin Nan's head, giving it a good rubbing.
Lin Nan's position made it impossible to dodge. Caught off guard, her head was pressed into the sofa. After finally withstanding the attack from Chen Yao's hands, she puffed up angrily and pounced toward Chen Yao.
However, Chen Yao was already prepared. He stood up and dodged. Lin Nan pounced at empty air and fell into the sofa again.
Her hair that she'd worked so hard to tidy had become a bird's nest, messy without any image at all.
"Are you sick!" She raised her head and angrily cursed at Chen Yao. Her voice was so angry it became like a sharp whistle.
"I'm busy. I have no time to fool around with you." Chen Yao hugged his laptop and sat on the other side of the sofa.
"Play games with me."
"Not playing. I haven't updated in a week. I'll get scolded to death." Chen Yao helplessly deleted the half-recorded audio on his laptop.
Chen Yao felt the most troublesome thing about making videos was recording audio. Even with a script prepared beforehand, it was easy to start stuttering while reading. If there was just a small flaw it could be remedied in post-production, but if there were too many flaws he could only re-record. A ten-minute video usually took one or two hours just for the voiceover.
Before they'd finished making a fuss, the door was suddenly knocked on. Chen Yao was startled and turned to look at Lin Nan. "Did your relatives come to visit?"
"This is your house, no?"
"Who would come to my house at this time?"
Opening the door, he saw several community workers and volunteers outside wearing raincoats and masks, their whole bodies wrapped up tightly.
"Excuse me, does anyone in your household have a fever?"
Chen Yao hurriedly grabbed a mask from the shoe cabinet beside him and put it on. Looking at the worker standing at the door whose age was indistinguishable, he answered, "No fever. Neither of us has gone out."
"Use this form to register information. In a few days entry permits will be delivered to you. At that time each household can only have one person go out per day." The person mechanically fulfilled their duty, handing the form to Chen Yao. Seeing a little head poke out from behind him, they smiled and teased, "Is this someone who came for New Year visits and got stuck because of the road closures?"
"Mm, bad luck. Does this happen often? Our area doesn't seem to have many cases. Why are we starting to seal off the residential complex?"
Chen Yao chatted casually, taking the form. Lin Nan immediately handed him a ballpoint pen.
He glared at Lin Nan. "Go back inside. What are you wandering around here without a mask for?"
Lin Nan pouted dissatisfied. She glanced at the information needed on the form, turned and walked into the bedroom, then sent Chen Yao her ID number.
"You don't know? Building 11 next door just had a confirmed case today."
Only then did Chen Yao learn this news from the worker. He immediately felt chills all over, for the first time feeling the epidemic was actually so close to him. He leaned on the shoe cabinet and filled in his and Lin Nan's information on the form. "So that makes four confirmed cases for us?"
"Five. Yesterday someone who came back from the epidemic zone was also confirmed."
"That many..." He handed the form to the worker, his brow tightly furrowed. "Then how long until we're better?"
"A month or two."
After chatting briefly, Chen Yao closed the door, rubbing his temples with worry.
He wasn't too worried about his parents. After all, every time they went out they took comprehensive protective measures. But who knew if Lin Nan had contact with the infected when she was at her grandfather's house.
That was the countryside. There were definitely quite a few people paying New Year visits early, and not many people wore masks during that time either.
"Did they leave?" Hearing the door close, Lin Nan also came out from inside. Seeing Chen Yao's particularly worried expression, she asked, "Is there some not-so-good news?"
"Mm, five confirmed cases. When you were in the countryside, did you have contact with people who came back from outside?" Chen Yao sat on the sofa and took several gulps of water, emphasizing, "Especially relatives who came back from the epidemic zone."
Lin Nan blankly recalled, finally shaking her head. "I don't know... Those relatives were all received by my uncle. I generally hid upstairs and didn't dare go down."
Just as she was speaking, Lin Nan's phone rang. It was a call from her mother.
"Hello! Lin Nan, your eldest uncle was confirmed positive!"
The phone was on speaker. Before Lin Nan could react, Chen Yao snatched the phone and urgently asked, "Did Lin Nan have contact with him?"
"I don't think so? Her uncle did come for New Year visits, but Lin Nan didn't meet him."
"What about Lin Nan's uncle? Is he okay?"
"He's fine too."
"That's good then..." Chen Yao breathed a sigh of relief and returned the phone to Lin Nan.
Though he knew the probability of Lin Nan being infected wasn't high, he was still extremely nervous. Even Lin Nan felt his vigilant appearance was a bit of an overreaction.
