I Don’t Want to Be Turned into a Girl by Magic

Chapter 245 : Unexpected

Chapter 245 : Unexpected

Lin Nan felt Chen Yao was being inexplicably strange.

He was really overreacting a bit.

She didn't know what those workers had said to him to suddenly make him this nervous.

So she took a nap.

She hadn't slept well last night. Today, her relatives happened to visit, and the slight pain tormented her mentally and physically, leaving her sore all over. She'd originally thought sleeping would make it better, but unexpectedly, after sleeping for three hours, her body became even more exhausted and weak, and her eyes were hard to open.

The motion of opening her eyelids seemed somewhat weak. Lin Nan blankly looked at the ceiling, listening to Chen Yao's movements in the living room. She could also smell some bleach disinfectant scent in her nose.

"Chen Yao."

She weakly called out once, only then realizing her throat was hoarse and painful. The sound she made was a bit too faint. Chen Yao in the living room didn't hear.

Lin Nan tightly furrowed her brows, struggling to prop her body up with her arms, sitting straight on the bed. But just this simple movement left her breathing heavily from exhaustion.

She could feel the overly hot air from her exhaled breath sweep across her lips. Gently covering her forehead with her hand, she clearly felt the burning heat.

Could I really have gotten infected?

After resting for a moment, her body finally had some strength. Only then did she drag her exhausted body up from the bed, then wobbled a bit as she opened the bedroom door.

The disinfectant smell outside the door was even stronger. She looked at Chen Yao doing disinfection work in the living room and called softly again, "Chen Yao!"

This time Chen Yao finally heard. Looking back, he saw Lin Nan leaning against the bedroom doorframe, her whole face flushed red, looking shy and charming.

She was quite cute though.

"What? Call me louder. I can't hear clearly." He lowered his head to continue spraying disinfectant water into the corners of the room with the spray bottle, instructing, "Stay in the room for an hour first. Come out after the smell disperses."

"My parents won't be back tonight. I told them not to bring the virus back so we wouldn't all get infected. Anyway, they have a place downstairs..." Chen Yao was rarely talkative. "This floor and the one downstairs both belong to my family. Originally, I wanted to connect them and make a staircase, but later I don't know if the procedures didn't work out or my parents found it too troublesome, so they didn't do it..."

He also hadn't noticed Lin Nan's condition. Only after speaking for a long time without hearing a response did he look at Lin Nan again, seeing her leaning against the doorframe, looking weak and powerless with half-opened eyes.

Chen Yao was startled by her current state. He hurriedly threw down what he was holding and ran toward her.

"Wait!" Lin Nan suddenly raised one hand to stop Chen Yao from approaching, asking feebly, "If you come over like this, what if I really was infected?"

Chen Yao turned to put on a mask, but didn't listen to Lin Nan's words at all. He directly walked forward and supported her with one hand. "How do you feel right now? Where don't you feel well?"

While asking, he also put another mask on Lin Nan's face, casually pinching the metal strip on the nose of the mask to make it seal better.

"No strength, headache, stomach discomfort... maybe I slept too long?"

He tested Lin Nan's forehead with the back of his hand, then tested his own. His brow furrowed even deeper. "You probably have a fever."

Chen Yao hadn't expected Lin Nan to be fine this morning, but after an afternoon nap she'd become like this.

He felt he should be panicked and nervous, but when the situation really occurred, no matter how much his heart panicked, his face still maintained its usual smile. He calmly brought Lin Nan back to the bed.

If I panic now, Lin Nan will definitely panic even more.

Though just a youth in his early twenties, Chen Yao had watched a lot of news recently and reluctantly knew how to handle things.

Chen Yao took out the thermometer from the drawer, lifted Lin Nan's arm, and without regard for propriety between men and women, reached his hand into the collar of her high-necked sweater and placed it under her armpit.

"Clamp it tight. Five minutes should be enough."

"Mm." Lin Nan leaned against the headboard, weakly nodding.

She looked at the calm Chen Yao with eyes somewhat dull from fever. She actually didn't have much excess emotion. Instead, she felt incomparably secure.

Chen Yao will handle this properly.

"I'll look up which nearby hospital has a fever clinic."

Chen Yao's expression was very steady. Leaning against the computer desk, he searched on his phone. But his fingertips shook so much he could barely type. He swallowed, trying to make his overly intense heartbeat calm down a bit.

If she really got infected...

It should be fine, right? I heard the fatality rate isn't very high, and most are middle-aged and elderly.

But Lin Nan's body wasn't good to begin with. What if she can't withstand it?

Even if cured, if it left aftereffects that would also be a loss.

"Five minutes are up."

Chen Yao smiled and nodded. On the surface steady as an old dog, actually panicking like crazy.

He took the thermometer Lin Nan handed over. 39.1 degrees.

This was already a high fever. No wonder Lin Nan couldn't even stand steadily.

"How much?" Lin Nan asked, then moved a bit more inward on the bed, trying to stay far from Chen Yao. "How about I go see a doctor myself? What if I really got sick and infect you?"

"It's fine. How can you go in this condition?"

"Call 120? But it doesn't seem necessary? That's only used when someone's about to die..."

In Lin Nan's understanding, ambulances were generally for car accidents, acute illnesses. The kind where if you weren't sent to the hospital at fastest speed, people might die.

After just saying two sentences, she discovered Chen Yao put his phone in his pocket and walked straight forward.

"I said stay away from— Ah!"

Her mind went blank. When she came to her senses again, she found herself already princess-carried in Chen Yao's arms, her body completely suspended in air.

Her face, already flushed from fever, immediately burned even hotter. But she had no strength to struggle, only able to weakly glare at Chen Yao. "Put me down!"

"Let's go! Guess how long it'll take me to get you to the hospital!"

"There are lots of people outside!"

"It's fine. At a time like this, no one's outside." Chen Yao used his shoulder to push open the door, bringing Lin Nan into the hallway.

"What if you get infected by me!" Lin Nan was so anxious she was about to cry.

If she got sick herself, that would be one thing. But if she implicated Chen Yao, she'd definitely blame herself for a long time.

Hearing this, Chen Yao looked down at Lin Nan. His expression couldn't be seen clearly under the mask, but his eyes smiled into crescents. "Then we'll be like 'not seeking to be born on the same day, but seeking to die on the same day'?"

"Is something wrong with your brain? Still joking at a time like this!"

She helplessly rested her head on his shoulder, no longer resisting. Anyway, she'd already spent these past few days with him. If infection was going to happen, it wouldn't matter this little while longer.

Lin Nan looked at his profile, her hands gently clasping his neck, closing her eyes with a rich sense of security.

It seemed that no matter what happened, Chen Yao could stand in front, sheltering her from wind and rain.

"Hey, if you really infect me, what will you compensate me with?"

He lowered his head, carrying Lin Nan as he sprinted wildly in the hospital's direction.

"Compensate you my ass!"

"Just call me daddy."

"Get lost!"
