Chapter 744 - 741: Reconciliation (2)

Watching his son ascend the stairs, Christopher Cooper merely shook his head and walked down the staircase into the dining room.In the dining room, Vera Wave was about to sample the Rice Steamed Pork Ribs that Bailey Hansen had served her. Spotting Christopher entering, she hastily set down her chopsticks and stood up.

"...Dad!"

Over the years, she had harbored some resentment towards Christopher, and her guilt towards him had only grown stronger.

Christopher raised a hand to steady her shoulder. "Sit down and eat. It won’t taste as good once it gets cold!"

There was nothing unusual in his tone. It was as if nothing had happened, as if she had simply gone to work and returned for dinner.

Vera lifted her face to meet his eyes.

"Dad, I..."

The man’s lips curved into a gentle smile. "It’s good that you’re back. Let’s eat!"

As he spoke, the hand on her shoulder applied a little more pressure.

Vera looked at him, her brows slightly furrowed. The man’s eyes, like Kris Cooper’s, held a hint of amber. They were peach-blossom eyes that seemed to smile even when he wasn’t. His gaze was clear, showing no hidden emotions—only tolerance and concern.

That gaze... it was identical to how her own father used to look at her.

Vera sniffed, unable to hold back any longer, and threw her arms around the tall man before her.

"Dad, I’m sorry!"

"Silly girl!" Christopher laughed and patted her back. "It’s okay, don’t cry. Be good now! Otherwise, when that brat comes downstairs, he’ll think I’m bullying you and want to duel me. Then we can forget about these ribs."

Everyone burst out laughing. Vera also managed a smile and straightened up from his embrace as Bailey handed her a tissue to wipe her face.

By the time Kris Cooper had changed his clothes and come downstairs to the dining room, the family was already seated joyfully around the table, beginning their dinner.

"What? You didn’t wait for me? Did you guys finish all my Steamed Pork Ribs with Rice Flour?"

"Why should we wait for you?" Christopher retorted, his tone scornful.

Bailey chimed in, "What do you mean *your* Steamed Pork Ribs with Rice Flour? I clearly made them for Vera!"

"Exactly!" Henry Cooper joined in. "What does this have to do with you?"

Vera placed two pork ribs from the small mountain on her plate onto his.

"Humph!" Kris shot a glare at his family. "My wife is the only one who cares about me! It’s like I’m your son and grandson for nothing!"

This wasn’t the first time Vera had witnessed such banter among the four of them. She knew that despite their teasing, they cared deeply for one another.

As they continued eating, Henry Cooper asked about Vera’s pregnancy.

Hearing that she had been examined and everything was normal, the old man seemed to breathe a huge sigh of relief.

"I used to think I’d definitely never get to see my great-grandchild, but now it seems I actually have some good fortune, eh?"

Kris chuckled. "Some good fortune, Grandpa? You’re incredibly lucky! Otherwise, how could you have such a handsome grandson like me?"

"Oh, please! You little rascal, all you do is cause trouble." Henry Cooper turned to Vera with a gentle look. "In my opinion, our Vera is the most sensible. Your mother and Vera marrying into the Cooper family—that is my greatest fortune."

The meal was exceptionally harmonious.

No one mentioned Vera’s departure at all.

After dinner, Bailey brought over a fruit platter, handing it to Kris for him and Vera to take upstairs.
