Chapter 743 - 740: Reconciliation (1)
Rolling up his shirt sleeves, Kris Cooper grabbed his phone nonchalantly, reaching out to hold her hand."Let’s go. Home!"
Those four simple words filled Vera Wave’s chest with an overwhelming sense of joy. Home. What an endearing term.
Hand in hand, they headed downstairs. Kris settled her in the passenger seat and carefully fastened her seatbelt. Then, he returned to the driver’s seat, started the car, and drove home.
While driving, he occasionally turned to look at her. Each time he did, he found her large, clear eyes fixated on him, filled with the joy of having him back.
When they arrived at the Cooper family’s residential complex and the car came to a stop, Vera surprisingly felt a bit of nervousness, akin to bashfulness upon returning home.
"Will Mom, Dad, and Grandpa... be mad at me?"
"No, they won’t. If anyone’s mad at you, they’ll have to deal with me."
"No!" Vera grabbed his wrist. "If they’re upset, you’re not allowed to say anything. I...I’ll apologize."
"Alright."
With a smile, the man agreed, then took her by the hand, leading her up the steps to ring the doorbell.
"They’re here!" A woman’s voice, filled with delight, echoed from inside. After a moment, the door swung open, revealing the beaming face of Auntie Zhang. "Young Master, Young Madam, you’re back! Come in quickly, dinner’s ready; we’ve just been waiting for you two!"
It’s as if she knew they were coming back?
Vera smiled at Auntie Zhang, then followed Kris into the house.
Auntie Zhang also walked in, then quickly hurried upstairs.
"I’ll go inform the Old Master, Mr. Christoper, and Madam Bailey... Young Madam has returned!"
Before she could even reach the top of the stairs, the hurried sound of footsteps could be heard. Bailey Hansen was the first to rush down from upstairs. She approached Vera, held her by the shoulders, and examined her from head to toe.
"Mom, I..."
"You must be hungry, right? I had Auntie Zhang prepare your favorite dishes." As she said this, Bailey’s gaze fell onto Kris. Catching sight of his shirt, she immediately frowned and exclaimed, "What on earth is that? Aren’t you going to change your clothes!"
"Vera!"
From the stairs, Henry Cooper, supported by Auntie Zhang, had also come downstairs.
"Grandpa!" Vera hurried over to support his arm. "Grandpa, I’m truly sorry... for only coming back now."
"It’s alright, Grandpa isn’t hungry. Auntie Zhang, go warm up that soup. It’s best enjoyed hot."
"Okay!"
Auntie Zhang acknowledged his instructions and headed into the kitchen.
Henry Cooper then guided Vera towards the dining room. "When I went out for a stroll earlier, I bought a blueberry cake for you," he said. "I left it in your room so you can have it as a snack if you get hungry later."
"Thank you, Grandpa." Vera’s voice was choked with emotion.
He chided, "What are you thanking me for, child? If you’re polite with Grandpa again, Grandpa won’t be pleased!"
"Okay!" she responded with a laugh.
Bailey also joined them in the dining room, while Kris made his way upstairs to change his clothes. On his way upstairs, he bumped into Christoper Cooper, who was coming out of the study room.
"Where’s Vera?" Christoper asked under his breath.
"The dining room."
"Have you two made up?"
"Yes."
Christoper nodded lightly, reaching out to pat his shoulder. His gaze was also drawn to the tight, short, and faded shirt Kris was wearing, and he too furrowed his brows.
"Can’t you pay more attention to your appearance? What on earth are you wearing?"
"So I can’t wear a washed and faded shirt?" Kris chuckled, jogging upstairs.
