Chapter 745 - 742: Reconciliation (3)

"Oh right, there’s a box of nuts upstairs for you. Vera, have some every day, they’re good for the baby’s brain development."Carrying a fruit plate, Kris Cooper held her hand as they went upstairs. As soon as they entered the bedroom, Vera noticed two boxes on the bedside table right away.

One box contained the strawberry mousse that Grandfather had bought for her, while the other was filled with various types of nuts.

He picked up a nut, popped it into his mouth, and chewed. Kris Cooper nodded approvingly.

"Hmm, the taste isn’t bad."

As he spoke, he put an almond into her mouth.

"Here, have some for our son’s brain development so he doesn’t turn out to be a silly little boy like somebody." She rolled her eyes at him, and he laughed, wrapping his arms around her. "You rest a bit. I’ll go handle an email and then come back to keep you company, okay?"

"I’ll go with you."

"Okay."

So, he took the fruit plate and led her into the Study Room.

Kris Cooper placed the fruit plate on the coffee table, and Vera followed him.

"I...I sneaked a peek at your safe before."

He raised an eyebrow, suddenly remembering something. He quickly opened the safe, retrieving a particular document.

"You saw this?"

She nodded.

Regretful, Kris Cooper slapped his forehead.

"Damn it, how did I not think of that before?!"

So much had happened recently. It was inevitable he would overlook some details. If only I had remembered this earlier, perhaps none of this would have happened...

Vera gripped his arm. "Don’t blame yourself anymore. What’s past is past! From now on, if anything happens, I won’t jump to conclusions on my own again."

He straightened up and put his hands on her shoulders.

"And in the future, I won’t keep things from you presumptuously either."

They locked gazes, then both broke into smiles.

Love has never been an easy thing. Their love had always been so passionate that they hadn’t really learned how to love someone properly yet.

Adversity brings pain, but it also fosters growth.

After everything that had happened, both of them had started to mature.

They now had a deeper understanding of life, of hardships...

"Okay, back to work!"

He settled at his desk to work on some files. She brought the fruit plate over, pulled a chair next to him, and sat cross-legged.

She’d take a bite, then feed him a bite.

Just like six years ago.

When he finished his work, they returned to the bedroom together. Soon after, Tommy Taylor called. He informed Kris Cooper that all the project files for Peacock River were ready, and the media outlets were reporting as guided by Ashton.

"Good job. You all have worked hard."

Kris Cooper hung up. He saw Vera standing nervously to one side and reached out to stroke her hair.

"Don’t worry, everything is proceeding smoothly."

Vera pursed her lips. "Kris, can I say something without you getting angry?"

"It’s about Nathan Leafcastle, right?"

She nodded lightly, her expectant eyes resting on his face.

"Regardless of everything, what happened to the Leafcastle family is related to my dad. Now that Aunt Zhou is dead, can we just... let bygones be bygones? Could you stop holding a grudge over this?"

There’s no smoke without fire. Even though I don’t know exactly what happened back then, Liliana Davis must have had her reasons for saying what she did. She lost her father, and Nathan Leafcastle lost his mother. This kind of thing shouldn’t continue.

Kris Cooper tenderly cupped her face and nodded.

"Alright. This time, I won’t hold it against him."
