Chapter 807: Running Away from Home
Chapter 807: Running Away from Home
He has always been accommodating and kind to Charlotte, and Charlotte knows this too.
Even the engagement ring has been given, what could she possibly be upset about?
Nicholas Woods looked at him with an expression that seemed to say "What nonsense are you talking about," unable to make a retort, and simply said, "Mr. Stephens, you should explain it to Miss Smith, I’m afraid she’ll misunderstand your relationship with Miss Madison."
"..."
Robert Stephens furrowed his brow as he looked at Nicholas, not sure if he really listened or not.
In the evening, following Robert Stephens’ instructions, Nicholas went to the flower shop to pick up Charlotte for dinner at the Stephens family home.
However, the owner of the flower shop told him that Charlotte hadn’t come to work today and had called to resign.
Nicholas was somewhat surprised by this news. Seeing Charlotte’s intent to become independent, he thought she meant to hold onto the job long-term. Now it seems she probably wants to stop fighting with Robert Stephens.
Robert Stephens must be delighted to hear this.
Nicholas left the flower shop and went to Charlotte’s apartment to find her.
But Charlotte was not at her single apartment either.
Where did she go?
Nicholas was puzzled and took out his phone to call Charlotte, but her phone was unreachable.
He didn’t think too much of it at that moment, only called Robert Stephens to report that Charlotte was out of contact.
Robert Stephens was still at the company; he simply acknowledged the news indifferently, without any particular reaction.
It wasn’t until Charlotte had no news for the entire night that things began to seem a bit off.
Robert Stephens is a suspicious person by nature, but he never worried about Charlotte. He never anticipated that one day, his arranged fiancée would suddenly disappear on an ordinary day.
It wasn’t exactly a disappearance; to be more precise — she ran away.
Yes, Charlotte took cash, bought a cheap ticket, and ran off.
Furthermore, because it was a budget airline, the passenger check-ins weren’t strictly regulated. Once she got off the plane, she disappeared without a trace.
When Nicholas came out with the investigation results, he realized the situation was quite serious.
This might really be a case of running away from home!
Robert Stephens hadn’t slept all night, sitting in his office with a livid face, the air heavy with tension.
He reviewed the documents Nicholas handed over; his exquisite face showed no emotion, though Nicholas felt a bit apprehensive inside.
Having worked by Robert Stephens’ side for years, he fully understood how much Robert valued Charlotte, and her running away brought unspoken pressure.
"Get back to work."
After reading, Robert Stephens showed no reaction, only saying this to him.
"What about Miss Smith..." Nicholas asked instinctively.
"She’ll come back when she’s done causing trouble."
Nicholas glanced at his expression, finding his demeanor cold and brows furrowed, and no further action beyond that, feeling somewhat surprised.
He watched Robert Stephens for a while, and when Robert didn’t acknowledge him, he finally could only leave with a heavy heart.
Seeing Robert Stephens’ calm demeanor left him questioning: Was he really making a big deal out of nothing? Was it just a typical couple’s quarrel, not worthy of concern?
Robert Stephens thought very simply: he couldn’t be too controlling over Charlotte.
From her initially insisting on going to school to later moving out because he disagreed, to now inexplicably going abroad, each step was a result of his compromises with her.
If he had disciplined her properly from the start when she first disobeyed, she wouldn’t have the nerve to continue challenging him.
He spent the entire night reflecting, realizing he had indeed been too lenient with her lately, even agreeing to her moving out of the Stephens family home, and tacitly approved of her working in the flower shop.
Charlotte, like a child, has started to push her limits.
He was curious to see how long she could last outside without his protection.
