Chapter 99
Chapter 99
More than ten minutes later, the crowd around Randolph gradually scattered.
Randolph's eyes swept over Connor.
Connor said to Annette with a faint smile, "Come with me."
Annette put down the food in her hand and followed Connor to Randolph.
"Randolph, how are you going?"
Randolph patted Connor on the shoulder and said, "Well, I'm in good health. You haven't come to me for one and a half months, right?"
Randolph looked at Annette and asked, "Is this your mate?"
Annette waved her hand and denied it.
Before she could say something, Lance's forthright laughter sounded behind her.
"Mr. Fletcher, you seem to be getting stronger and stronger."
Hearing Lance's voice, Annette felt a little disgusted instinctively.
Randolph nodded and smiled at Lance. "Alpha Lance, glad to meet you."
Lance turned around and pulled Jessica over. Then, he said humbly, "Mr. Fletcher, this is my daughter, Jessica. Since she knew that she would see you today, Jessica had been happy all day."
Jessica said respectfully to Randolph, "Hello, Mr. Fletcher."
Randolph glanced Jessica up and down. He nodded and said, "Jessica, it's cold at night. You should put on some more clothes."
Jessica smiled, "It's okay. I'm not cold."
Randolph's expression became indifferent.
A hint of disdain appeared in Connor's eyes. Jessica was never a smart woman.
Annette looked down at her dress. She finally understood why Connor had picked such a low-profile dress for her.
It was to cater to Randolph's preference.
Lance turned to look at Jessica and cast a glance at Leslie.
Leslie took off her cloak and wrapped it around Jessica's shoulders.
"Mr. Fletcher, Jessica was afraid that I would be cold, so she gave her cloak to me. Please don't mind it."
Jessica wanted to say something but Leslie stopped her.
Although she didn't know what she had done wrong, she kept silent.
Randolph nodded. "Being filial is a good thing, but you have to dress more appropriately, just like this lady."
Randolph pointed at Annette.
Jessica was furious. She complained in her heart, 'Randolph is such an old man and also old-fashioned.
This dress is from the season's latest collection.'
Seeing Jessica's angry eyes, Annette smiled. She said to Randolph, "Thank you, Mr. Fletcher."
Randolph nodded. "Connor, I have something to discuss with you alone. Come with me."
Connor said to Annette, "Come with me."
Annette shook her head. "No. I will go get something to eat."
She was not stupid. Randolph had said that he wanted to talk with Connor alone.
Connor smiled and nodded.
Connor followed Randolph into the study. After they sat down, someone served them coffee.
Randolph said, "Harrison told me that you didn't have a mate yet."
Connor smiled, "Well, he hasn't found his mate, either."
"Let's not talk about that brat. I invited you here tonight to return a favor."
"Return a favor?"
"Yes. When I was young, I owed a favor to the previous Alpha of the Black Thorn Pack. Even after he passed away, I was unable to return his favor. You know, I don't want to be in anyone's debt. A few days ago, Alpha Lance came to me. He said that his daughter, Jessica, wanted to become your mate."
Connor smiled, "Randolph, don't do that to me."
"Don't worry. I just want to return the favor. Alpha Lance knows about the grudge between the Black Thorn Pack and the Blood Moon Pack. He couldn't propose it in person and wanted an intermediary to help him. Probably after thinking about it for a long time, he thought no one was more suitable than me, so he came to me. I told you about it, and as for whether you accept it or not, it is none of my business. I've returned the favor, so you don't have to be in a quandary. Do you understand what I mean?"
Connor nodded. "I bet so. You know how much I hate the people of the Black Thorn Pack."
"I'm not that heartless. I've seen Alpha Lance's daughter just now. She's really a fool. She can't compare to Annette at all. You are a lucky man," Randolph said with a smile.
Connor said, "But Annette doesn't want to be the Luna of the Blood Moon Pack."
Randolph asked, "Are you serious this time?"
Connor nodded.
"In that case, you don't have to explain anything to the Black Thorn Pack. I will deal with it. I didn't mean to cause trouble for you," Randolph promised.
In the courtyard, Leslie saw that Annette was alone, and she whispered to Jessica.
Jessica nodded repeatedly. Then, they walked to Annette together.
She held Annette's arm warmly and smiled, "Ann, may I have a word with you?"
"I have nothing to say to you." Annette shook off Jessica's hand.
However, Leslie also came over.
She held Annette's other arm with a smile but said through gritted teeth, "Annette, I know you don't care about the Black Thorn Pack, but if we argue here, you will embarrass Alpha Connor."
Annette stopped struggling and walked past the front yard to the backyard with them.
After entering the backyard, Annette shook them off.
Leslie leaned close to Annette and poked her shoulder with her finger. "Bitch! You are quite proud of yourself, right? How dare you be with Alpha Connor? Do you want to end up like Sharon?"
"Leslie, you better mind your words. Connor doesn't like Jessica, yet Jessica is shameless and kept pestering me. You have no right to scold me. You'd better watch your daughter first."
Annette retorted. Leslie raised her hand and wanted to slap Annette.
Annette grabbed Leslie's wrist and took a step forward, looking at her with sharp eyes.
