Chapter 100
Chapter 100
"Look closely, Leslie. I am Annette, not Sharon. Sharon would put up with your beating and scolding, but I wouldn't. You better show me some respect when you see me. Unlike you, I don't have much to lose. So, think twice before challenging me, and see if I'll be afraid of you."
Annette stared at Leslie fiercely.
For some reason, Leslie felt nervous.
She thought, 'This bitch is indeed different from her cowardly mother.
The determination in her eyes is terrifying.'
Jessica stepped forward and grabbed Annette's hand.
"You shameless woman! Let go of my mother!"
Annette shook off Jessica's hand. Jessica was wearing high heels. She staggered a few steps back and fell into the pool behind her.
Although it was not deep, she was instantly soaked.
Leslie screamed, "Annette, what are you doing? You can be mad at Jessica, but how can you push her?"
Her scream got the guests' attention.
Jessica stood in the water and cried. "Annette, I was only trying to protect my mother. What did I do wrong? How could you push me into the pool? You are going too far!"
Annette was standing four or five meters away from the pool.
She took a deep breath and thought it through. Jessica and Leslie were putting on a show on purpose to frame her.
She sneered.
The people around them began to discuss with each other. Lance also came. He quickly took off his suit jacket and handed it to Jessica. "Jess, hurry up and put it on."
Jessica lowered her head and realized something. The cloak on her shoulders got wet and turned transparent. Her strapless dress was soaked and slid down. Thus, most of her chest was revealed.
She grabbed Lance's coat and put it on. She climbed out of the pool and sat on the ground. She began to wail.
She wrapped herself tightly with Lance's coat and looked at Annette. "Ann, why did you push me into the water? Do you hate me that much?"
Lance was furious. He walked to Annette and said, "Even if there is a problem between you two, you should not have pushed her into the water. Are you happy now, to see Jess in such a sorry state?"
Annette clenched her fists and bit her lip. Just as she was about to speak, Connor hurried over from the living room.
Annette was standing in the crowd and being accused, but she looked at Lance stubbornly. Connor squeezed into the crowd and came to her.
"What happened?" His voice was not loud, and he looked at her gently.
Before Annette could speak, Leslie said sadly, "Alpha Connor, she is so rude. I just wanted to talk to her alone, but she got angry and pulled me. Jess came to persuade her and was pushed into the pool."
There were no witnesses just now, so she could make up a story as she wanted.
Leslie walked to Jessica and hugged her with pity.
"Jess, it's my fault. I would rather be pushed into the pool than see you like this."
"Mom, don't say that." Jessica cried miserably. "It's not your fault."
Annette became a bad person in an instant.
Someone said, "Lady, just apologize since you did the wrong thing. It's not that difficult to say sorry."
"That's right. You are at Mr. Fletcher's party. You can't mess around like this."
Annette looked at Connor. If she didn't do anything, she was afraid that she would embarrass him.
However, if she were to apologize, it would mean that she admitted that she had pushed Jessica into the pool.
She didn't do it. Why should she admit it?
Annette was sad.
Connor pulled her behind him. He turned around and asked her, "Don't listen to them. Now, tell me, is that true?"
Annette had thought that she would stay away from Connor from today on rather than apologize to Leslie and Jessica.
Connor suddenly asked her about that. She said, "No, I didn't push her. I didn't lie. Do you believe me?"
"I do," Connor said firmly.
Annette's eyes instantly turned wet.
Jessica panicked. She shouted, "Alpha Connor, how can you believe her? Although no one witnessed what had happened, do you think I jumped into the pool voluntarily?"
Connor held Annette's waist and said confidently, "I know her well, so I believe what she said. Otherwise, should I trust strangers like you?"
"It is unfair to us. She pushed me just now." Jessica stomped her feet in anger.
Connor's voice was firm. "Annette wouldn't lie. Since no one saw the scene just now, everything was possible. I don't believe that Annette could push you into the water in front of your mother. She was alone after all, and I think I'm being reasonable."
Jessica felt wronged and began to cry again.
She thought, 'I'm so unlucky. I jumped into the water, yet Connor showed no sympathy to me at all.'
Connor exerted more force on his arm and brought Annette out of the backyard.
He asked the servant to help him say goodbye to Randolph and then left.
He and Annette walked to the gate of Randolph's villa. Annette asked, "Did I put you in trouble?"
"No." Connor touched her head and said, "Don't worry. Randolph isn't stupid. He can tell right from wrong. No pressure, OK? Let's go home."
Annette was grateful. She hesitated for a moment and then stepped forward to hug him gently. "Thank you for trusting me."
This was the first time she hugged him. Connor was a little flattered.
He raised his arms and hugged her back. "I'm flattered."
Annette sighed, "I was upset and worried. If you didn't believe me..."
"Why wouldn't I trust you?" Connor rubbed her hair lovingly. "Just have a little faith in me."
Annette curved her lips into a smile. Just as she was about to get out of his arms, he hugged her even tighter.
