Chapter 92
Chapter 92
Connor looked at Annette. He asked curiously, "Why were you in a bad mood?"
Annette felt guilty.
Connor said, "Tell me."
"I just miss my mother. When I miss her, I don't want to talk to others." Annette found a casual excuse.
She continued, "You are back. What about your business? I didn't expect it to affect you."
"I have an idea. Do you want to make it up to me?" Connor said.
Annette was confused. "How?"
Connor picked her up.
Annette was anxious. "You are always like this."
Connor walked into the bedroom and put her on the bed.
He hugged her and closed his eyes. He was a little tired and said, "I'm tired. I want to hold you to sleep."
Annette did not say more. Soon, she heard Connor's even breathing.
When Connor woke up, Annette was cooking in the kitchen.
Annette said to him, "By the way, have you seen the news?"
"No, are there any big events?"
"Someone dug up on Daphne and it was all over the Internet overnight," Annette said.
"Does it have anything to do with me?" Connor said nonchalantly.
"It may be because of you. Rumors of you and her thrust her in the teeth of the storm," Annette said.
"The rumors were there for a long time. But why did it all come out at once yesterday?"
Connor said calmly, "Don't you think she offended someone?"
Just as Annette was about to refute, the doorbell rang. It was Dwayne, and he brought some clothes for Connor.
Connor spent the night at her place as usual.
Annette had felt helpless before, but probably because she was used to it, she didn't go against it.
She knew that people must think that she and Connor were in a relationship.
The next morning, they went downstairs together.
Connor suddenly moved sideways and hid her behind him.
Annette was about to look up at him...
But he pressed her face into his arms.
Annette asked curiously, "Connor, what are you doing?"
"Shh! Someone is taking pictures of us behind the bush," Connor whispered.
Annette was nervous and her body stiffened.
She whispered, "What should we do?"
Connor took off his shirt which was made of thin materials and covered it around Annette's head.
He grabbed her hand tightly. "Let's go. I'll walk you to the car."
Annette's vision was suddenly blocked and she could not see anything.
So, she had to count on Connor.
She grasped Connor's hand while he pulled her arm to his chest.
Then, she put her other arm around Connor's arm from the left side.
After helping Annette get into the car, Connor got in and drove away.
Annette removed the shirt from her head and looked around. "This is not the way to school. Are you taking me to your house?"
"There are several cars following behind us. Do you think you can get away from them after I drop you at the school?" Connor asked.
Annette looked at him pleadingly. "What should I do? I can't skip work. Kyle has been targeting me. I will probably get fired."
"Then, it's good. You deserve a better job anyway."
"No, I can't do that. I can't just give up like that."
"Shall I let you get off the car and let them take more photos of you?."
Annette said resignedly, "Then, what to do now!"
Connor had to be focused on the road. "Let's go back first. I'll think of something."
He drove directly into the backyard of the villa.
Connor asked Dwayne, "How many cars are there now at home?"
"Five."
"Listen up, pick four young female werewolves from home. Ask them to get changed and get into four different cars. Drive in different directions and return in half an hour."
"Okay, Alpha Connor." Dwayne nodded and left.
Connor said to Annette, "Later, you also need to get changed and take the fifth car."
Annette nodded. She raised her wrist to check the time. She was already late for work.
But she had no other choice.
She turned around and entered the villa. She put on the clothes that Dwayne had prepared for her and went downstairs.
A car drove out of the villa every three minutes.
Annette stood beside the car and said, "Will I be fired today?"
"Very well, you don't need to work. I'll support you."
Annette smiled. She was not in the mood to joke with him right now.
Connor continued, "After you finish work this afternoon, a driver will pick you up. Remember, don't go back to the apartment alone. There will be reporters waiting there."
Annette said, "It's all your fault. I have to move again."
Connor was a little complacent. "You can stay with me for a while. After the reports shift their focus to some new targets."
"No. Your place is more dangerous."
"As the saying goes, the most dangerous place is also the safest one."
Annette frowned and asked, "Connor, you did it on purpose, didn't you?"
Connor smirked. "Well, you saw through it. This is the best way for now. Moreover, the security system here is the best. No reporter can sneak in."
Annette had no choice but to get into the car.
She tried so hard to move away from this place and now she had to move back again.
When she came out, there were no cars from the reporters parked outside anymore.
Annette felt relieved. As soon as she got out of the car at the school gate, Marcus walked to her.
Annette asked in surprise, "Why are you here?"
"Listen up. I got sick. You took me to the hospital and we just came back from there. So, now, you are heading to your office."
Annette frowned. She looked Marcus up and down and said, "You don't seem to be sick."
Marcus shrugged and said, "Of course. I'm helping you out since you are late for work. Well, let's go. It's so hot here."
