Chapter 70

　　It was Saturday the next day. Annette thought that Connor would come to her place for dinner.

　　Annette waited until seven o'clock in the evening, but he still did not show up or make a call.

　　Annette stood in the small kitchen and muttered, "You were the one who said that we would have dinner together on the weekend. If you're not coming, why can't you just tell me? What a joke I am!"

　　She muttered again, "Is he so busy that he can't come? Wasn't he busy last night? Well, it must be so. Don't overthink it. Well, he is always busy, but he still has time to piss me off, right?"

　　Thinking of the day before yesterday when Connor blamed her for not calling him, she hesitated. She got up and went to the sofa to pick up her phone.

　　She called Marcus.

　　As soon as the call was connected, Marcus said, "Annette, I guess we can read each other's minds. I was about to call you."

　　"Really? Why?"

　　"Connor is sick. Don't you think you should come and check on him?" Marcus said.

　　Annette got worried instantly. "Connor is sick? What happened to him? Is it serious?"

　　"You didn't know?"

　　Annette said awkwardly, "I haven't called him yet."

　　"Connor drank a lot with his business partner yesterday. After that, he got a stomach ache. I thought you knew," Marcus was very surprised.

　　"How is he now?" Annette quickly asked.

　　"I don't know about that. I went to see him just now. When I brought you up, he said that I should mind my own business. He might be angry with you. I thought you guys were fighting."

　　Annette felt bad. If she had known this, she would have called him.

　　"Well, Marcus, I got it. Goodbye."

　　Annette hung up the phone.

　　Marcus stared at the phone and thought to himself, 'Well, you called me and you hung up first before telling me why you called?'

　　Annette got up and searched for medicine for Connor's stomachache at home. Then she took a taxi to Connor's villa.

　　After a moment of hesitation, she pressed the doorbell.

　　Since it was Annette, the servant opened the door.

　　Dwayne said at the door, "Ms. Hall, you are here."

　　Annette nodded at him and said, "Dwayne. Sorry to disturb you at such a late hour."

　　"Ms. Hall, please don't say that. We are all very happy to see you."

　　"Is Connor home?"

　　"Alpha Connor is in the study upstairs."

　　She handed the thermos box to Dwayne and said, "Dwayne, I made some mushroom soup for him."

　　"Alright, I'll bring it to the kitchen. Ms. Hall, you can go up first."

　　Annette nodded. She went to the door of the study and knocked.

　　"Come in."

　　She pushed the door open and walked in. Seeing that Connor's complexion was not bad, she smiled.

　　Connor raised his eyebrows and looked at her. "Should I say that I am surprised?"

　　Annette walked over, took out a box of pills from her bag, and placed it on his desk.

　　"This is for you."

　　Connor glanced at the box. He raised the corner of his mouth and said, "You didn't call me. How did you know that I was sick?"

　　"I called Marcus."

　　"So, you called Marcus, but you didn't call me?"

　　Annette could not answer this question. She was a little embarrassed and kept silent.

　　"So? Speechless? Feeling guilty?"

　　Annette explained, "It's not that I didn't want to call you. I thought you would come over for dinner."

　　"If I didn't show up, then why didn't you call me?"

　　She immediately said, "Connor, I'm here to see you. Isn't this better than making a phone call?"

　　"If I weren't sick, I'm afraid you wouldn't have come." Connor snorted.

　　Dwayne knocked on the door and said, "Alpha Connor, this is the mushroom soup Ms. Hall made for you. Do you want some now?"

　　Connor raised the corner of his mouth and said, "Alright, put it here. And leave."

　　Hearing his cold tone, Annette thought that Connor was angry again.

　　She felt frustrated.

　　Why did he get angry so often?

　　She said sullenly, "Then remember to take the medicine. I'm leaving now."

　　She turned around and was about to walk to the door with Dwayne.

　　Connor helplessly said, "Stop."

　　Annette looked back at him and asked, "Is there anything else?"

　　"Where are you going?"

　　"Didn't you tell us to leave?" Annette asked doubtfully.

　　Dwayne couldn't help but laugh. "Ms. Hall, Alpha Connor was asking me to leave."

　　Connor waved at Dwayne. "Alright, just go out. You don't have to explain it to her. She is not smart enough anyway."

　　Dwayne smiled, opened the door, and walked out.

　　"Why did you say that I wasn't smart enough?" Annette said unhappily.

　　"It turns out so. I've been expecting your call for a day. Now, you finally came to me. How can I let you go?" Connor said with a smile.

　　Annette blushed slightly.

　　"Come here."

　　Annette looked at him. "I prefer just to stand here."

　　"Give me a glass of water. Otherwise, how am I going to take the medicine?"

　　Annette poured a glass of water quickly.

　　She was a little confused. Was she a little slow in front of Connor?

　　She brought the glass of water to Connor.

　　Seeing that she was still one desk away from him, he picked up the medicine and took a look.

　　"I can't read the words on it. Will you take a look? How many pills should I take at a time?"

　　Annette walked to him and took over the medicine box and looked at it.

　　But before she could see the words, Connor quickly pulled her into his arms.

　　She fell onto his lap.

　　She struggled to get up but Connor hugged her tightly.

　　Annette said anxiously, "Connor, let go of me."

　　"I won't. You finally came here. If I let go of you, then I must be a fool."

　　Annette tilted her head and wanted to glare at him, but Connor pressed down on the back of her head and kissed her.

　　Annette closed her eyes tightly. It took her a long time to move her lips away from his.

　　"Connor, you tricked me again," Annette said angrily.

　　Annette wanted to get up, but Connor still didn't let her go.

　　She was anxious. "Let go of me, and take your medicine."

　　"Look at me. Do I look like I still need the medicine?"

　　Annette looked at his face and he looked fine.

　　"So, Marcus lied to me. He tricked me by saying that you were not feeling well, right?"
